In the past I have justified continued existence by the hope of Mass Effect 3. Once that comes out... Well I'm sure by then there will be another game that I can put my dreams into.

Same here.

In 7th grade, I teach the students how Chuck Norris took down the Roman Empire, so it is good that you are starting early on this curriculum.

I just sent out my resume. Got an e-mail about an opportunity I think I would be foolish to not try for. This always makes me nervous.

Things that make Shryke get out of bed:

Sheep

Sleazy girls

Binge drinking

Sheep

Me

Honestly though, for me, good food, good booze, good entertainment, keeping fit, knowing I have the looks and intellectual potential to have a very successful life - these things keep me going.

Right now I should be doing uni, but I left this on tab and as a result, have spammed this thread up.

Things that get me out of bed...

Sore neck muscles during crunch time

The realisation that you are late for a plane at the airport

Sunday morning boredom

Work

Having a lot of fun with the OCBA (Thats the governments 'Office of Consumer and Business affairs') here in South Australia. Moving to Brisbane and expected to get my tenancy security bond back from the place I rented here. Turns out that some office clerk has decided to spice up his salary by embezzling the funds placed in their trust. Instead of doing the expected electronic funds transfer to my account, he decided that it wasn't possible (with some rather spurious claims) and issued a cheque. Guess what, he never sent the cheque, yet it was cashed in by "somebody, somewhere". He claims to have called me and I should have instructed him to divert the money (without any paperwork or signing any forms) to some address halfway out in the outback (where the cheque was cashed in). Doesn't take a genius to figure out what happened, he issued it to himself. Decided to Sic both the Ombudsman and the police on them... Ah well, it's only a few thousand dollars, but they are MY dollars dammit.

I'm beginning to think Guarddog is right, governments are crooks, all of them :shrugz:

Hm, the alarms broken.. so overslept a touch and got stuck in that hazy dreaming, partially awake mode for awhile.

But the day is moving along and I am presently awake. At least.. I think I am.

I'm confused. Loads of you mention hawt ladies as a reason for getting out of bed. Now, I am old fashioned, but I'd normally stay IN bed for hot ladies.

That's just being boring. There's bed..there's the bath, the shower, the kitchen counter, the dining room.. Sometimes you just have to enjoy exploring the house in fresh ways.. :fdevil:

Watching the EVE Fanfest at work. Wish I'd have gone, but then again, crowds of strange people scare me.

What I've understood so far is that you chaps have hidden hot women in my house, and I have to go find them.

Let us know when you find them all.

After an unsuccessful search for the hot women I indulged in a hour of hoofing up and down the hill. I feel pretty goddamn great, and am hoping I can keep this level up for a while. One hour a day should put me on a definite uphill (no pun intended) curve health and fitness wise. According to the internets one hour burns about 470 calories which is great. For now I'm increasing my intake to make up the additional expenditure to make sure I put on the necessary muscle. But once I've been going for a couple more weeks I'll try to reduce to what I was eating last month and see the weight fall off.*

My longer term goal is to increase both duration and speed of ascent so I'm jogging up, and proceeding down in the same slow careful fashion to avoid jarring my spine. Two hours a day and I should be one of those tiresomely spry old men one sees trotting about. o:)

*terms and conditions apply. My intake of beer may go up as well as down.

I'm reminded of that one episode of friends where Chandler tries to leave the gym.

Did you have to sit down with someone that kept trying to offer you new deals while you yelled "I WANNA QUIT THE CHURCH!"

In case anyone cares, here churches are on the government tit. Financing comes through a special tax, less than one percent , which you CAN opt out of, it takes writing a formal letter declaring your wish no to belong to the Church of Denmark. Few bother, and hence there is money to hire priests and upkeep of churches.

Im interested in your "church tax". In Christian churches here in the states the tithe is expected to be 10% of your income but its "voluntary" (not really, you are expected to give). Is it the same sort of system there?

kir or one of the other Scandies can probably answer better, but as I understand it, the answer is no. In some European (mostly Scandinavian) countries, where the governments are largely the heirs of the winners of various 16th-19th Century religious wars, there are established churches ("established" in the same sense as the "Establishment Clause" of the U.S. 1st Amendment), funded by dedicated taxes collected by the state. (The churches also sometimes perform duties that we would normally think of as governmental, like keeping and maintaining some official records.)

I just read a story about a pastor who was run out of his church because he was using quotes from Ghandi. Someone went a bit nuts and said 'newsflash: Ghandi's in hell' and apparently the congregation sided with the nutcase and not the pastor.

It just amazes me how popular the fire and brimstone churches still are.
