Tale Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) It's like you people forgot about the romance Imoen requests back in the day. But she was only an adopted sister! Then we found out that no, she's blood. And they still made the mod. So, am I the only one hoping he ditches the family after Act 1? I've not met a family oriented plot that didn't annoy me, unless the family was trying to kill each other. Maybe it's just having played Fallout 3 and the PC's dad obsession fresh on my mind. Amentep Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I dunno, I tend to roll with what they give me. Didn't really mind (but also wasn't greatly into) the Father-Quest of FO3 so in that sense as long as I can accept it in the story, then I'll just go on and do my thing. Who knows, maybe it'll be fun to have the family around. It'll certainly be different from most other games. I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
HoonDing Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 (edited) Imoen was as much your sibling in BG as Yaga-Shura, Sendai, Balthazar and Abazigal were. Since a god was behind the conception, the link between the Bhaalspawn was hardly biological. So an Imoen romance, while awkward, could work perfectly. Cantousent Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Now, that armor, while it looks weird, doesn't appear to be over the top. I mean, throughout history, warriors have wanted to make themselves look fiercer to each other and the enemy. That's why you get all sorts of paint and feathers and hides and horsemane and the like decorating armor. Weird armor is fine as long as it looks like something the person wearing it can wear effectively while fighting someone. ...And I'm not going to go crazy over it. It's not like I want to take measurements and run it through some sort of program in order to make sure it would work. As long as it looks reasonably feasible, I'm good to go. On the other end, highly stylized armor and weapons are okay as long as it's clear that the look is more important than believability. For example... oh, I dunno... magic realism or maybe a comic super heroes game. On the other hand, that's one ugly looking elf. Gorth Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 That looks not dissimilar from Zevran's concept art. Just needs a cape/cloak. I'm probably a minority, but I found Zevran, Dog and Sten to be the most interesting personalities in DA:O. @Cant: It's that thing, internal consistency or whatever it's called. If it makes sense in the context of the game world, it can get away with a lot “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein
Cantousent Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Took me a while to remember the term, but it's verisimilitude or something like that. Ringing true even though it is not, in fact, true. I like internal consistency, though. I mean, it's like characterization in games (or any sort of literature, I guess). What a character doesn't have to be make sense or even be sane, but there should be some reasonable expectation of consistency in motive. Maybe the motive itself is insane and thus irrational, but the whole package has to ring true. Thanks for giving me an excuse to go off on a tangent, Gorth. lol I'll spare you the essay that sprang to mind while reading your comments. :cant's wry grin icon: Fionavar's Holliday Wishes to all members of our online community: Happy Holidays Join the revelry at the Obsidian Plays channel:Obsidian Plays Remembering tarna, Phosphor, Metadigital, and Visceris. Ceremonial armor is all well and good, but if he bends over or falls down he's going to end up cutting / stabbing himself pretty badly. *edit - on closer inspection a lot of people have pointed out that it appears the "spikes" are actually feathers. If this guy is a Crow as some speculate, that is a pretty hilariously literal costume. If only all assassins dressed to announce exactly what they are, they'd be a lot more manageable. Also, lots of comparisons to Thane, which is apt. Jackets are similar, even. Also this is the first companion that Gaider has admitted to writing. Based on past history, that must mean the dude's pretty important. Edited December 2, 2010 by Pop Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
Pop Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Today in Letters to Bioboards He's my new obsession, that's who he is. "Hawke? Where did all the whipped cream go?" I can tell by the tilt of his head that he's a sensitive soul in need of comfort from Maria Sue Hawke. He will tell me his tale of anguish and I'll go on to writing a 100,000 word fanfiction in which we constantly end up in romantic or sexual situations but misunderstandings and our own pain keep us apart. These past few months have not been very gracious to me, but this piece of info is the light at the end of the tunnel so to say (for me at least). I am off to pre-order. Thank you. Thank you. Pop Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Couple of things, yes, this is an upcoming character reveal (your first peak essentially). His name, personality, etc is what you will need to wait for (I could tell you, but I'm nasty and junk). Yes, you will have to wait for more information. No, not everyone in Dragon Age 2 is romanceable. It seems that every NPC we have shown (Varric, Flemeth, Aveline, Isabela, etc) MUST be a romance. This line of thinking will lead to disappointment as Dragon Age II is an action RPG, NOT a dating simulator. Crushing hopes with an evil laugh... I believe, Evil Chris, that we are simply aggressively expressing our hopes. Why not? Life is short and we need more smiles. Well you still have time to fix that. It is okay, we are a patient rabid fanbase. That's fine. I just hope that the romances we do get will be AMAZING. Y'know, out of these characters I personally think this sexy elf-man is the most likely LI aside from Isabela. And I still think we may get 6 LIs instead of 4. Priorities, people! Thorton_AP Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I love the Fallout 2 Gigilo perk you can get. As long as it has two legs and a heartbeat, and sometimes you're not even that particular (or something like that)

On one hand I'm interested in how Bioware does this and if they can do something fresh and interesting, but on the other I'm dreading the whole Disney stuff. But then, I remember a DA trailer where the party banter looked completely like something from a 90's Disney movie, and it wasn't the case... Not hard, just take mundane dialogue and sing the lines. I'm thinking the start of Beauty and the Beast. EDIT: Heck, the brother character would be a good Gaston, chin and all.
