Raithe
I wouldn't say it's the fact that they've delayed it that are causing the villainisation of Sega.. It's that they delayed it but didn't make any public mention of it. They left the fans with nothing but a few rumours, right up until the release date and only then did something turn up.. (and that was just a small change on Sega's site of the date). There was, and still is, a wall of silence over the whole thing. And that is what's causing more grief and speculation and general irritation with Sega over the matter. We know Obsidian aren't allowed to say anything at the moment, so no-ones casting aspersions on them over the matter. So the irritation runs up the line to the big, bad publishing company that seems to be behind it all.... Until there's some form of actual public announcement, with possible reasons for it, there's just going to be a continual upswell of ill-feelings towards Sega. Floodland
I just want more info on specific in-game stuff, now. I'm a complete sucker for character customisation and I'd really like to see more than we've been given so far. I'd imagine that this is more than doable too, what with folk waiting until release day to make changes... BATTLE, n. cb.spike
I don't think Obsidian will go down the Troika path. Feargus and the principles have done a good job of lining up projects and with New Vegas looking like it could be out for the Fall 2010 (just speculating -- Fallout 3 GOTY ed for this holiday season, Fallout NV for next and TESV/MMO for the following...) they should have an abundance of money hats to pass around once that happens. Also, isn't there a 3rd bun in the oven after Fallout NV? It looks like Feargus is trying new business model. Work on games, but don

Killian Kalthorne
So correct me if Im wrong.Publisher forces the game out before its ready: Bad publisher, you should have given them more time! Publisher delays the game to get it polished for relase: Bad publisher, we want the game now! Granted it could be the Aliens treatment but considering how far along AP is that seems pretty unlikely to me. However the publisher that gets the game out on time is best of them all. Alpha Protocol, given the time it was announced and advertisements put in place, and the hype of its previews an October, even November release, would be "on time." Also in my case there is the fact that this delay coincides with the supposed leaked Sega meeting documents which refer to Alpha Protocol as feeling "barely RPG" and that "Mass Effect felt more RPG". Both statement that sounds like they were made by a 45-year old housewife assigned to evaluate an RPG for the second time. Not that there is anything wrong with being a 45-year old housewife. It's just that it sounds like someone who doesn't get the genre was made to evaluate the genre and may have caused a delay. All speculation of course. kreese12
If I understand things correctly, the developers do not make a whole lot of money on the actual sales. The publisher does however. Of course, a developer would still benefit from big sales because it would make them more attractive to publishers for upcoming games. I believe that was Troikas main problem. If I remember it right, none of their games failed to make a profit, but they did not make a profit big enough for any publisher to be interested in their post-apocalyptic project they had in the works. Troika's last game , Bloodlines, did really poorly sales-wise. I think it sold less than 100,000 units for the first few months it was out. I think this was mostly because of all the huge bugs. Now a days, with the community made patches, I would argue the game is one of the best C-RPG's ever made (it's in my personal top-5 anyways). But when it first came out, it was in a fairly inexcusable state. At one point you had to enter console commands in order to get around a show-stopping bug. I wish Troika succeed was still around...they were a really talented bunch. It'd be amazing to see what kinds of games they'd be making now a days if they were able to make enough $$$ to stick around... Killian Kalthorne
The reason why I didn't buy Bloodlines when it first came out is because how crappy ToEE was. Amentep
I didn't have a computer that could play Bloodlines when it came out. I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? Killian Kalthorne
They really should have made an XBox version. That could have helped sales. Fearless_Jedi
Woohoo!! Delaying the game may actually mean that I can afford it when it comes out. Plus, 4 to 6 months of development and testing may mean that they will add disarms into the mix for CQC. Awesome. Only potential issue is that Splinter Cell Conviction may be released before AP. Grone
The reason why I didn't buy Bloodlines when it first came out is because how crappy ToEE was. Well, not all crappy. Sure, the story sucked, but it had the best implementation of tabletop system in any game, ever. And the gameplay was very polished. I was bored with it to, but it if you sit down with it, shut your ears to the story, and just think of it as a dungeon crawl, it can be quite entertaining. Enoch
The reason why I didn't buy Bloodlines when it first came out is because how crappy ToEE was. This. (As well as how crappy Arcanum was.) As an addendum, my only real concern with the delay is that there is a possibility that this could be a Very Bad Thing for Obsidz. Depending on the reason for the delay and the provisions in their contract with Sega, they could be on the hook for the additional production costs, failure to meet development milestones, etc. Studios can only go for so long between releases, especially in the current tight market for business credit. The other risk is that the release of the game (and Obsidz' profit therefrom) is now dependent on Sega keeping the doors open for another 3 quarters (and doing so without the revenue that holiday sales of this title would bring). Now, it might be that all is hunky-dory in both companies' financial positions and that the game is just getting a few additions, tweaks, and lots of polish over the next few months. But the secrecy from Sega (Obsidz is almost certainly contractually bound to say nothing publicly about all this, so we can't really blame them) isn't a good sign. I don't think there has been any ultra-left spies .That's an interesting concept though. But hey. Then again. Just remembered: the first spy novel ever, Conrad's The Secret Agent, featured an anarchist. He was trying to blow up something or rather and sold porn on the side. It's a bit hazy though.. read through it quickly for school a couple years back, and think I skipped every second chapter (had a late paper to write! ) Post Bond though, I can't think of any super left-wing spies , if we aren't considering Soviets (and Soviet spies I'd consider more right-wing ideologically aligned myself) . To be a spy for a state you pretty much can't be much of a socialist. Well I think anyways. Open to hearing other thoughts on the matter...
