Actually, I think the majority of the posts have been positive here, just a couple naysayers. Of course, Fallout 3 was well received here as well much more so than Oblivion.

That's how I recall the initial FO3 reaction as well, generally a surprised positive. It wore off over time to some degree. But I think the final reaction was still; "The system was viable (could be better, but it did what it tried to do), the atmosphere was great, it was well polished, it just needed more RP."

I think Obsidian can definitely add the RP element that was missing and turn a solid game into a winner. I think they may have some time for some minor system tweaks. But I think if they tried to overhaul the engine in a year, they'd be suffering from excessive ambition. Whereas if the story/RP elements were amped up, I doubt anyone would have a reason to seriously complain about the final product.

I doubt Obsid will overhaul combat (besides a melee spruce up) and that's fine - story, dialogue and atmosphere are what matter.

I agree that is fine as well. IF they can ratchet up all the non-combat aspects.

The problem with FO3 was that combat was pretty much all there was to the game and the combat sucked hard regardless of how you played.

FO1 didn't have great combat either, but the rest of the gameworld was so rich that it didn't matter. At least to me.

But, if Obsidian's Fallout has the same level of writing, dialogue, and consequences as Bethie's Fallout, then they better overhaul the combat, because the combat of FO3 isn't eneough to carry a sequel.

Sandbox exploration won't cut it this time.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

NMA seems guardedly positive about the news.

The Codex a little less so. I love those codex guys but man sometimes you gotta let go... :ermm:

I'm speaking generally of course. Individual reactions run the gamut.

I think I have to buy Fallout 3 now. Because this could be the bestest thing since push-up bra.

Gotta ask:

What about children?

What about drugs?

What about sex?

If it is in Vegas the last 2 are in, however children in Vegas = Bad honeymoon.

Also:

What about food?

What about toilets?

What about 99% of water being heavily radiated yet people still live?

What about people actually working?

Will there be Viagra or can I be a fluffer?

Hi guyz! here we go again

But, unlike last time, the company making the Fallout game is actually competent and has released good products. :ermm:

I would like to see some semblance of agriculture, even if a guy mentions caravans bringing it in from a town we can't visit. Just some way of explaining how people survive.

I gotta agree. I didn't even deal personally with half these things in the original fallouts, but just the fact that they were there and they were adding to the realism and depth of the world made sense. Please don't shy away from an MA rating.

Same.
