...should be added as a smiley, or atleast made mandatory for all posters from the 'Codex :(

Anyhoo, i fully expect "Fallout: New Vegas" to include:

-

- Being able to marry, fornicate and kill hookers.

- Become a pornstar.

- Become a druglord with a harem of above mentioned.

- Kill kids and extort parents for not killing their cousins and siblings.

- Letting an angry mob to put my character on a mock-trial and consequently kill me for the sins mentioned above.

- Of course there's the C&C from the previous installments, gameplay and character-creation.

Other than that, it's cool. Still, there's a faint deja vu of being back in 2004 again. Hopefully things will go smoother this time.

"I dream things that never were and say why not?"

yeah. Fallout 3 in a nutshell:

get quest.

wander around.

dungeon crawl.

walk into place #17.

find same crap as places #1-#16.

find safe full of similar useless crap and/or bobblehead.

repeat ad-nauseum.

So... NWN1 with graphics that aren't fugly?

This particularly rapid, unintelligible patter isn't generally heard, and if it is, it doesn't matter.

All of these suggestions just sound like FO2 reskinned for 2010. Is that what the majority of you want? Im genuinely curious here. A new FO on the heels of a version less then 1 year old and all anyone wants is to revert back to "the good ole days?

Sure is. :(

Then, despite the gross similarities and how accurate the reversion is, people won't be blinded by their nostalgia and will critique the game for still not being a good enough carbon copy of the first two games.

Lol, I was going to bring up how nostalgia would never stand the withering light of the actual product but it doesnt seem to matter.

Hardly that simple.

Just that those people who love the Fallout series want to see those traits they loved brought into the next incarnation of the game, however Fallout 3 was lacking in some of those aspects. I still very much liked Fallout 3, but it doesn't follow the theme of Fallout and Fallout 2 very well.

I feel they can keep a lot of what Fallout 3 is, but add some depth to the game. Something a bit more substantial to it.

Well, honestly, what do you want to know exactly?

Do we want another Fallout game similar to Fallout 1 and 2 (conceding FPS and combat changes)? The answer is yes. We didn't get enough of it 10 years ago and we get barely any of it now.

Frankly I'm sick of graphics engine upgrades and new and improved rag-doll physics. I want the "good old days" where the atmosphere and story was the focus.

Maybe your question really is: do we want an Obsidian Fallout game instead of something else - maybe a new IP or steampunk or something? Well, still, yes. Sorry if this announcement disappoints you. :(

Pretty much, people are still waiting for Slayer to produce another "Reign in Blood", or Ridley Scott making another incredible Sci-Fi movie.

No one wants another Fallout to be like 'Jason X' was to the other "Friday the 13th"-movies.

Sh*t, man, there are people still longing for another empire like [insert random historic empire] to this day.

I would like to see a Fallout game that lacks Bethesda's typical gameplay stylings. Whether its is like Fallout 1 or 2 or not, I don't particularly care.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

Would you consider that "doable" as it probably wont be turn based? Isnt that where a lot of the charm came from wrt FO1 and FO2? I dunno, I havnt played any of them.

I honestly didn't see this coming.

But psychic powers were always my weak spot.

Still, something to look forward to.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

Im not disappointed in the least and Im happy everyone else is happy. Im more curious as to why, and whether or not its just nostalgia.

As I see it, there are many possible ways to make a good crpg. Fallout 1 was one way and it was a good way. So was Deus Ex. So was Baldur's Gate. So was Bloodlines. etc and so forth. I enjoyed them all.

The problem is Bethesda has never found a good way.

You really should seeing as they're two of the best games ever produced. :(

I know, I know. They just look like such crap imo. Like one level above all text. Im not even a graphics whore and looking at screen caps of the FO's make me want to spork my eyes out.

Fallout 1 and 2 are absolutely excellent RPGs to this day. There's a whole lot more to their appeal than just nostalgia.

I guess it's something that'd make sense if you played them, but in a similar way what made games like SS2, DX1, and Torment good is also something timeless. regardless of their graphics or combat system or whatever now.

I highly recommend you play them.

Turn based is just a game mechanic, I know that people like it but to me it was just how the engine processed combat. Not necessary for a Fallout game, to me.

Fallout 3 had some real great moments to it and I really loved those moments, but they were spread out with cheese, too much cheese.

I get what you mean, but I think you're mistaken. Specifically screen shots don't do the game justice. Sure, it's pixelated now, but it's to modern RPG's what Quake 2 or Half-Life 1 are to modern FPS's - outdated but still infinitely playable.

I always find that when I go play an older game, they do tend to look jarring at first. But after playing for a while, the graphics become "normalized" and cease to look bad anymore.

*shrugs*

I dunno. Maybe I just have a higher tolerance for that sort of thing. I still play Master of Orion and XCOM, so maybe I am a bad example?

The user interface is crap, even at the time it was released, it was crap. If you can't get over it, you won't enjoy the game. It took me a while, I put it down after 15 mins of first playing it as I was killed by the 1st enemy I faced because I didn't know how to kill it.

However I went back to it after a couple of days and slowly played it learning how it worked, after a while you forget the UI and just enjoy a really great game.

-edit-

To another poster, I still love Quake 2. I'm not sure what so special about it, I played Quake a hell of a lot until Quake 2. But I can't play Quake anymore as it's just not any good. Quake 2 rocks! As does Half-Life 1 of course. PC Gamer UK had that at the no.1 spot for 5 years and only took it down to give other games a chance, I think.
