I liked Endless Legend and the Endless Space games, I will be giving that a try.

I tried one of the very early Alpha Builds. But my computer couldn't handle it so that put an end to my playtesting.

I need to make money and buy a new PC...

Funnily enough, for me Endless Legend 2 runs better than Endless Legend 1... it's probably some GPU thing, it seems be some of the graphics from the later DLCs.

My biggest problem with Amplitude games is that the DLC usually is garbage. Good on the wallet though.

What can I say, I liked all the ES and EL DLCs. They do tend to be much more buggy, though.

I'm guessing Obsidian has gone the way of Looking Glass, Visceral, Westwood and so on. "Microsoft will give us so many more opportunities with their vast resources! They will surely let us continue our independence despite everything in history pointing to another end!"

Cue today.

Sad, but predictable. It was good while it lasted, I suppose.

Ubisoft 40th Anniversary Sale

40 YEARS OF UBISOFT Celebrate four decades of gaming with savings up to 90% on games and DLC. Promotion ends on October 1st (10AM PDT) All deals :

Ubisoft has a massive sale of 90% on most of there games

This is the perfect time to buy any Ubisoft game you have always wanted 🥳

They force you to install Ubisoft Connect. I'm mildly interested in the division, otherwise, there's nothing I want. The few things that are good, I've already tried.

I guess it is true that all good things must come to an end.

If future Obsidian games are going to be like Bethesda games, then I've bought my last Obsidian game. 😢

I mean it was obvious from the start, but I guess they saw no other way out. Hopefully the forums stay up in one form or another.

"because they filled mommy with enough mythic power to become a demi-god" - KP

Eh, does that really mean much of anything at all?

Obsidian has already made one game under Bethesda*, after all, and it was fairly well regarded. Having one RPG label, one action label, one casual label etc makes sense**; and not just in the world of MBA speak. And yeah, if anyone thought they were actually going to get independent management for Obsidian under MS... well, I have some lovely sea side real estate in Arkansas to sell them, might even throw in a free bridge as a sweetener.

I also have very few illusions about Xbox being an absolute disaster financially for MS over pretty close to its entire existence. It was basically never financially viable on its own and was always propped up, sometimes massively, by the profitable divisions. At some point someone was going to decide that was throwing good money after bad.

*It is Bethesda Softworks, not Bethesda Game Studios

**especially if the next step is selling it off in bits to the Saudis. Which might seem unlikely, but they bought EA and were going to buy Embracer. Buying a failed console in its sunset would be very on brand for their business acumen as well.

I was about to write that.

Now, while I haven't been a fan of Bethesda Game Studios open world RPGs, they did seem to care well for studios at Bethesda Softworks. ID Software, Machine Games, Arcane all produced fantastic titles. The question, is, of course what is the mandate now with Microsoft new leadership. Obviously ID was rather ruthlessly gutted.

The worst case scenario is that Obsidian becomes delegated to support studio to BGS output. Thought, what it means for now, I think, that Obsidian's Fallout game might aim to be a "proper" modern Fallout title. Creation Engine it is, then?

Obsidian under Bethsoft now. 😭 We truly are in hell.

I'd say that's the realistic scenario, for most of their output, rather than worse case. It may not be particularly palatable to Obsidian fans, but if Avowed was TES: Avowed it would have sold a lot more even if you otherwise left 90% of it the same. While that is technically opinion rather than fact I don't see any realistic way it isn't true; and I don't see any way that people in MS management don't think the same. They will want maximum brand return etc etc and not BGS making Fallout/ TES with 16 years between the franchise titles.

They did specifically mention Grounded as continuing, and it's a small project to get a specific mention; it's clearly been successful enough to get attention. I'd suspect that as long as their big ticket projects are successful they'll be allowed to do some more experimental stuff as well. The problem, now, is that their recent big ticket projects were not successful.

(The wildcard could well be a D&D title, given BG3's success and it not having any sort of real follow up. At this point, a pretty wild wild card though. That would clearly be big ticket, and far more appropriate for Obsidian than BGS even if they had capacity. Not an Obsidian IP either though, of course)

Halo being moved to Activision, too.

City builder - looks interesting. Mostly I like the build-a-county/area vs. 1 main city. But early access route etc (ea-date is Nov. 5, 2026). Supposedly a (new, updated) demo in October. I spent time removing a lot of wishlisted games today, and then added this one. Whether it'll still be in my wishlist another 5 years from now who knows.

Wasn't this always a probable outcome, considering the popularity of Bethsoft IPs? Obsidian had tried to pitch TES spinoffs to Bethesda back then themselves post ca. New Vegas...

In particular considering that Bethesda is unable to provide two, now three IPs alone. The last "proper" Fallout mainline game is over a decade old, TES a decade and a half -- and even Starfield has turned three this year already. But that's the way things are generally headed, years of franchise service. Even Rockstar hasn't done anything FRESH in decades! Not even Hollywood is this limited, as it's still maintaining slot for new IP. But considering where the industry is going...

Will be interesting to see what's gonna happen to inXile.

Probable, but not desireable.

i’m nor very keen to seeing the results of Bethesda having the final say on everything. They have such a creative tube vision, that they themselves can not produce but one game over and over.

Perkele, tiädäksää tuanoini!

"It's easier to tolerate idiots if you do not consider them as stupid people, but exceptionally gifted monkeys."

Obs./Beths - eh, for me it doesn't seem to change much (neither Beth or Obs seem to make games that appeal to me personally anymore) and yes not unexpected.

I might buy the FNV remaster if it's mostly about graphics, QoL and some odds and end adds. And I'd certainly be at least interested to keep track of any other FO project of theirs, Beth or not, to see what they do with it.

This forum - I've half-expected to try to load it some day and find it gone, or moved, etc, since the original MS thing. I mean, I hope it doesn't happen any time "soon", don't get me wrong but. :D

Looking at the latest press release by MS, where they published that they are still finding a proper way to solve the Arkane "issue", I find this very unlikely unfortunately.
