What You've Done Today - Yesterday is but today's memory, and tomorrow is today's dream.

Some co-workers bought a box of different organic peppers ripe from the end of growing season for me, since I'm the "spicy food" guy (I'm not really that much of a hothead, but I do cook with and eat stuff like bird's eye, habaneros, and scotch bonnets, don't usually go much higher than stuff like that). I wasn't sure what would actually be in the box or how hot the peppers would be, and I ended up eating this lumpy and misshapen pale pepper called a "jay's peach ghost scorpion".

Suffice to say, I suddenly remembered why I normally stick with the peppers that I do.

How I have existed fills me with horror. For I have failed in everything - spelling, arithmetic, riding, tennis, golf; dancing, singing, acting; wife, mistress, whore, friend. Even cooking. And I do not excuse myself with the usual escape of 'not trying'. I tried with all my heart.

In my dreams, I am not crippled. In my dreams, I dance.

That reminds me of the good old times when my mother told me she bought seeds for hot peppers, because I like them. When they were all nice and grown, I bit into one to see how hot they really are, because normally what's being sold as hot peppers here tops out at Bird's Eye.

Yeah, so it turns out she bought Naga Morich seeds. That was certainly an experience. One I don't necesssarily recommend. :p

I am progressing well with sorting the apartment.

Moving is always strange. More so when you change everything.

I closed the smallest hotel in Athens. I am out of tourism. Tourism turns you into a racist. Unless you only have Australian guests - Australians are cool. Clumsy and loud perhaps, but fun and friendly and happy to be here.

So I have moved into one apartment myself and it is such a strange experience to be here and not be in stress to get things ready for check in.

I took down the sign from the entrance and am having a new one printed with just my art and no text.

Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

I expect any forumite we chat here to let me know if they come to Athens.

Who knows, maybe I'll be so rich by then, I'll even have a spare bedroom 😛

Thank you, I need it.

Going to launch the forkcat brand for real now. Even hiring a marketing/fashion/branding consultant with fancy hairdo (if you are reading this: Γειά! Θα σε παρω τηλέφωνο αύριο!*)

Selling the apartment I was living in the past 8 years. Standing to almost double my money because I bought it dead cheap. That will give me a secure cushion to concentrate on starting something new for a couple of years without having to stress.

So feeling super excited and stressed and a bit of trepidation. But if it works out it will be awesome.

Maybe it is midlife crisis, but I feel very privileged to be able to try to do completely my own thing.

Crewed MCM comic con London last weekend.

As usual, working the Cosplay Central and Cosplay Hospital area. But this time, with half crew due to last minute illness and family issues.

So, over the weekend, we hit a record of 1,894 cosplays clicked as repaired, 3 kids cosplay showcases, 3 adult cosplay showcases, 2 cosplay masquerades, a cosplay variety show, and the WCS qualifier for the UK team headed to Japan for the World Cosplay Summit championships. I was on the floor Saturday before 0730 and didn't head out till gone 2015.

Also, first time I've had to share a room with someone I was not in a relationship with, and a complete stranger to boot for the entire weekend. I did not realise quite how hyper-focused and aware that would make me, and I might note, that while I am a Star Wars geek, the quiet Darth Vader in the corner because he had to use a sleep apnea machine was not conductive to sleep. I have spent the entire week trying to recover from that whole exhaustion.

Given my sister a call and noted that this weekend I need a break from sorting through the house and dad's stuff and just doing a veg and recuperate.

Winter. (US) time change (this weekend), Chilly feet (California chilly, that is).

No new game interesting enough to actually pull the trigger on.

Not much on the 'tube, either.

At least there are always cat videos. <---- you can just put that on my tombstone

I have now "Ignored" 2381 games on Steam. Maybe if I ignore 97,463 more, I might finally find/get shown something I like.

If you can't tell from my blathering semi-bloggity increased presence, my sleeping has gone all to heck again. I've cleaned out (physical) file cabinets, cleaned files (virtual ones), a ton of laundry, dusted walls, baked a (low carb) cake, watched countless videos, watched some true crime episodes, tried to watch half a dozen movies, caulked a shower, watched hubby watching Prison Break, watched the rain and on and on.

Can I go to sleep yet.

Simon the Westie, April 1st, 2010 - November 3rd, 2024

image.png.c4f2f43ef698f0e9014150264c0ca5

Good night, sweet prince. You brought joy to everyone who knew you. On the one hand I am heartbroken, on the other I am happy that he did not have to suffer. Just around midnight he got up for the last time, wagged his tail, and went back to sleep. This morning we noticed that he didn't breathe any more.

Being able to die peacefully in his sleep is a blessing we never expected him to have after he was diagnosed with lymphoma six months ago. The vet gave him three to six weeks without treatment, and he went on to enjoy his life for six more months. He put up a valiant fight, and now he gets to rest and hopefully join my mother in law who used to watch over him while we were working when he was a puppy and during his adolescence.

Every now and then I catch myself wondering if we shouldn't have taken the vet up on the offer of chemotherapy, but then, he was 14 already, he hated going to the vet to the point where he tried to run away (which he never ever did otherwise) and it would have been a three month treatment, with no chance of actually curing him. Ideally it would have put his cancer into remission for a while. We'd trade three months of him being miserable with three months extra time with him? No, and looking back, I can't imagine to have made a different choice.

You will be missed my sweet doggie. I know that every pet owner says this, but he was special and the cutest and the best. :)

Sorry to hear that majestic. Sounds like he had good and long run of things.

Been 6 years and 5 years since we had to say goodbye to our first dachshunds, cancer and a spinal injury that led to paralysis spreading, still miss those dogs.

Usually clean to music from my MP3 player, a Fiio X3, on my bluetooth speaker. Have to say scrubbing the bathroom to the Soviet anthem is indeed an experience.
