Hawke64 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 (edited) https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/bloodlines-2-is-more-spiritual-successor-than-sequel-to-a-a-competently-good-game-by-2004-standards-say-paradox Quote Those gifted with preternatural vision may detect a careful qualification there. Not "a sequel to Bloodlines" but "a game that puts you in the World Of Darkness". And indeed, Lilja [Paradox's deputy chief executive officer] downplayed associations with the original game when I asked whether Bloodlines 2 would still be some kind of immersive sim (piggybacking on a comment made to TheGamer in 2023). He also suggested that Bloodlines hasn't aged all that well, and that taking inspiration from it too zealously could be counter-productive. "It's about setting the right expectations," he said. "The first Bloodlines game - it is what it is, and people who've played it recently will see that it's a game from 2004, that is now patched so that it works. But there's also a lot of ideas about what that game was, that are more, not to offend anyone, mythical. "I like the first game as well a lot, but we want to clarify what this game is, so people have a clear understanding of what they're buying, so they don't come in with weird expectations - because we don't want that, we want them to understand that this is an action RPG with a storyline that is more fixed. It's not the open sim it maybe shouldn't be compared to. Again, we want people to understand what they're getting into." I must admit that my optimism was misplaced, and this person has not played VTMB. I played it recently and most of the ideas and implementations work just fine (could be better with more immersive sim elements, not less). Then again, abusing the IP worked well for Larian, but they at least somewhat improved the character creation and added more immersive sim elements (the rest was not exactly good). Edit. The developers may release something that can stand on its own, but it is unlikely to be a sequel to VTMB. Edited October 11 by Hawke64 Rephrased to sound less aggressive. 1 1
uuuhhii Posted October 10 Posted October 10 paradox would give up on bloodline after 2 there are some tiny hope obsidian will get chance to make 3 1
Lexx Posted October 10 Posted October 10 (edited) Why even call it Bloodlines 2 if suddenly it is not like the first game anymore? The whole draw of it was to get an immersive sim experience in a vampire world... if it's not that anymore, why even bother. Edited October 11 by Lexx 3 "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
Gfted1 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 Ah "spiritual successor", now where have I heard that before? At least now its known that it resembles the original in name only. 3 "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"

Sven_ Posted October 10 Posted October 10 (edited) Such a stupid production, apparently from the start. If this went the right way, they may have had a real success on their hands, released in the times of BG3, KCDII et all (unless Warhorse bust the launch, they may be the next in line for larger success after Larian and FromSoftware). What's more depressing is that Bloodlines turns 20 in a month. TWENTY. That's also twenty years since the last major horror-themed RPG. You gotta be kidding me. Edited October 10 by Sven_ 1 2
Azdeus Posted October 11 Posted October 11 (edited) I never expected anything good from that developer, but not even trying is worse than I thought. Edited October 11 by Azdeus 2 1 Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken
melkathi Posted October 11 Posted October 11 I lost all interest when they said your character had another vampire inside their head. WOD has so much to offer, it doesn't need dumb gimmicks. 1 Unobtrusively informing you about my new ebook (which you should feel free to read and shower with praise).
ShadySands Posted October 11 Posted October 11 I gave up on this a while back but can't say I'm not enjoying watching this somehow get spectacularly worse with each update 1 1 Free games updated 3/4/21
