ivenend Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 (edited) When digging into the art files of PoE2, I found an unsed greatsword weapon model. The size of this greatsword is exactly same of Whisper of the Endliss Paths, and it also has a zweihander-like design, but with a simpler, straight blade. In the art assets files, this sword model is marked as w_gs08 (and Whisper of the Endliss Paths is w_gs09), the model file also has a name greatsword_alec. I don't remember there is a character called Alec, maybe this is a name of a Dev? It is actually my favourite greatsword model in PoE2, I'm quite curious about what is the model suppose to be originally. and really hope the Dev can bring it back in the future DLCs or somewhat. For people who want to try this sword in game, I made a littel mod change the model of Whisper of the Endliss Paths into this unused model, you can find it here: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/102482-graphic-mod-change-the-model-wotep-to-a-unused-greatsword-model/ Screenshots: Edited June 16, 2018 by ivenend 4
Sobric Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 That's a Claymore! Good find. Is it possible to mod in new weapons or only replace models?
dunehunter Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 That weapons looks too long, very unrealistic to me.
hilfazer Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 That weapons looks too long, very unrealistic to me. And its it's worn on the back! Vancian =/= per rest.
Shadenuat Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 (edited) Not a sabre so developers could't think of any use for it. Edited June 16, 2018 by Shadenuat 1
evilcat Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 (edited) Zweihander? Clay me More! There ware also Flamberg swords, that would look hot. Problem: Two Handers was arms race with full plates, so they should be gut against armour. But this is not represented in game. Obsidian fix! Edited June 16, 2018 by evilcat
Juodas Varnas Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 That weapons looks too long, very unrealistic to me. I don't know man, seems pretty accurate to me. 4
Occursus Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 That weapons looks too long, very unrealistic to me. It is actually quite historically accurate. 3
tinysalamander Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 Looks like Eothas' toothpick. Pillars of Bugothas
ivenend Posted June 17, 2018 Author Posted June 17, 2018 Is it possible to mod in new weapons or only replace models? The mod I have made only replace the model of Whisper of the Endliss Paths, but yes, it is also possible to mod a new weapon with this model. 1
JerekKruger Posted June 17, 2018 Posted June 17, 2018 It is actually quite historically accurate. Indeed, it's about right for a true two-handed sword (as opposed to a longsword which would usually be wielded two-handed, but could be used one-handed). They were big swords. By the way note that the bottom portion of the blade is wrapped in leather and there are a pair of spikes that act as a cross guard: both designs make it ideal for half swording.
dragubaba Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 That is not a claymore. Is it possible to mod in new weapons or only replace models? The mod I have made only replace the model of Whisper of the Endliss Paths, but yes, it is also possible to mod a new weapon with this model. Nice, I'll be using that for sure.
Benefiber Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 hmm, am I crazy... or does this look familiar? Check out Pallegina (Purple) Number 6: Source: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1577897829/scrimish-pillars-of-eternity-decks-battle-on 2
jbritch Posted June 18, 2018 Posted June 18, 2018 Perhaps a producer who wanted to learn the character art pipeline made this as a test and is secretly really proud of it? And perhaps he has been going around the office linking people to this forum thread saying this is the greatest day of his life? Perhaps. 22
Abel Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 If it's just a test, then, it's a test that deserves its proper in-game implementation. I kind of like how it feels bad-ass and historically accurate at the same time. 3
