  1. Yep, a lot of these "common knowledge" things stop getting mentioned because those who know them assume everyone else does. Always good to have them brought up again from time to time. And yeah, with helwax and an outworn buckler that's a pretty impressive +30 to all defences which is kinda ridiculous.
  2. Sigh. Okay, you got me, I should have been more precise about what I meant by plausible. Or maybe people find things that are plausible more aesthetically pleasing, and mention that when expressing their preference. I think it's a fairly natural thing to do to give reasons why one holds an opinion. You know you're right. It's not really about plausibility for me, it's about aesthetics. It's just that for me an aesthetically pleasing ship (or suit of armour) is one that looks like real world ships because I find beauty in understanding the design. Looking back at this conversation I notice that it was you who started this devil's advocate line of questioning in response to me expressing my preference for historical armour over fantasy armour. It was you who took the reason for my preference, separated it from that preference, then used it in your "if plausibility is what matters then why don't you care about all the other implausible things". But plausibility wasn't, and isn't, what I care about: aesthetics is.
  3. I'm not going to read the entirety of an 18 page thread. If there's something relevant to the current discussion from said thread then feel free to raise it. As for the recognisable differentiation between the sex of the wearer of armour being implausible, where did I say otherwise? I'm not getting worked up. This is a forum for discussing Deadfire. Obsidian recently revealed the boat that we're going to have in Deadfire. I'm discussing it. As for the arbitrariness of it all: sure, it is. But short of having no opinions at all, this is unavoidable.
  4. Throughout Pillars of Eternity alternate names for classes are used. Defenders (Paladins), spellwrights (Wizards) are two that spring to mind, but I am confident that there are a lot more. If this doesn't cause confusion, I can't see why allowing the player to change the title for their multiclass combination should either. Note: I don't suggest that, if I decide to rename my fighter/rogue "frogue" that every fighter/rogue in the game should be renamed. All I think should be allowed is that there should be a little "title" box on the character sheet and an option to edit it. I also totally support being able to rename uniclass titles too.
  5. No because, by and large, PoE armours are plausible. I hadn't noticed the fact that scale armour (and mail as well it seems, though not leather interestingly) is rather form fitting. Given that such armours would usually be worn with a gambeson on underneath, there probably wouldn't be much figure visible. I guess you'd need to actually dress a model in authentic reproductions to see exactly what they'd look like (I did a quick search but "mail armour female" doesn't return many authentic examples), but I'd prefer whatever is more realistic. The thing is, there are things the game engine* can handle and there are things the it can't. I'd prefer that the ships move about as you describe, but I'm fairly certain that doing that is beyond what the engine can do. I don't think making a more ship shaped ship is beyond what they can do however, so I'd prefer they do so. EDIT: by the way, the same problem applies to a more rectangular shaped ship. There are ways round the problem of having only a small point of contact as well. You can have a number of interactable objects along the edge of each ship which, when clicked by a character transfers them to the equivalent point on the other ship (ideally with an animation of some sort). I've already mentioned that you can get round that by having the sails be correctly aligned, but having them fade out when you're zoomed in leaving only base of each mast visible. *Probably the wrong term. I just mean the limitations of what Obsidian can do with Deadfire.
  6. I voted "Maybe, if it doesn't divert attention from more important features." because hey, why not. I doubt I'd use it, but if others like the idea and it doesn't detract from the finished product then that's fine by me.
  7. Given I wasn't part of those discussions, I have no idea what you're trying to say in this post. Feel free to expand on how I am being selective.
  8. Yeah, I did some searches and I can see the resemblance. Interesting.
  9. Exactly. It's a bit like how my view on fantasy armour changed once I learnt about why historical armour was designed the way it was. Suddenly armour that used to look badass looks dumb. I'm not seeing the Japanese influence in Maia myself. I got a strong Ottoman Empire vibe from Kana's descriptions of Ruatai but I don't know whether that was intended or not.
  10. Much of these could simply be differently skinned variants of standard weapons to be fair. Think along the lines of Xaurip Spears. There's no need introduce entirely new weapon classes, unless there isn't an existing one that is roughly the same.
  11. Balls! I used a different email address for my Fig pledge than I use for the Obsidian forum.
  12. Okay that's true, but surely Max's point was that in the case of Empower it's a problem.
  13. Not true for Deflection and Accuracy since what actually matters for them is not their absolute value, but rather their value relative to whatever you're fighting. To take your example, +10 ACC when I currently have 30 is exactly the same as +10 when you currently have 90, assuming you're fighting Deflection 30 and 90 enemies respectively.
  14. It made Hell better at being Hell, which is to say it made Hell a lot, lot worse
  15. I got an email about three hours ago saying that my pledge had been collected.
  16. Yeah this is the way I'd probably handle most weapons: simply have them be skin changes of the appropriate existing weapon. Only one sword, Darcozzi Paladini's Longsword of In'claene, is called a longsword, and that's a backer created item I believe. All other one-handed swords are simple called swords (though Steadfast is described as being a backsword in its description). I'd probably argue that some of the great swords are closer to longswords in their appearance than though.
  17. It has been a while, but I am fairly certain enchanting two-handed weapons takes the same amount of ingredients.
  18. Ah okay. The for armour it's Legendary x4 for Weapons it's Legendary x2 and then you can also enchant 2 items (weapons or armour) to Superb as well. Mythic can't be enchanted, it has to be there already.
  19. I didn't pledge through Fig though, that's why I'm asking I'm a derp, sorry.
  20. Neither, he's friendly and open when you meet him and remains that way forever. He's pure love.
  21. It says at the top of that page that Fig pledges will be imported approximately 30 days after the campaign ends, so I don't think there's any reason to worry.
