  1. A question I asked along with its answer: http://jesawyer.tumblr.com/post/157949245471/another-enchanting-question-the-limit-on Well, being able to use a weapon from the beginning of the game to the end was a specific complaint that many Pillars players brought up. For those players, their sense of discovery and excitement was ruined (in their words) by the enchantment system because once they found a weapon they liked, there was no reason to switch to anything else. There are some other potential approaches we could take, e.g. only allowing a weapon to be enchanted a single time, but with no restriction on what power of enchantment goes on it. That would force players to choose between extending the normal lifespan of a weapon for a few levels or putting it away for many levels until they can put a really strong enchantment on it in the late game. Ultimately, though, if you’re looking for the ability to use any specific weapon from hour 3 or 4 through hour 30/40/50/60, I don’t think there’s a good solution that will make everyone happy. My thoughts: I wouldn't say there's no hope for those of us who don't like this change, but I don't think there's much hope.
  2. If the problem is that it's possible to reach max level long before the end of the game then there's not much to be done in (unmodded) Pillars. If the problem is that the game becomes too easy then there's a simple solution which doesn't require any mods at all: don't click the level up button until the game starts to become hard. This has the same effect as spreading out levels, although obviously you'll have to exercise your own judgement as to when you think you should level up. Not a solution for everyone, but I like it.
  3. I guess that's because she has a unique face model, and the skin tone for that is different to the one they picked for the rest of her. That said, how often do you actually use her without armour? I can't imagine noticing the difference between her face and hands when she's wearing armour.
  4. My guess: she'll be alive, but I doubt Obsidian will have included a "never met" clause so she'll probably act like you've travelled together. Of course, they might read this and add one in now.
  5. That reads closer to South African to me, though I guess South Africans are Australian Africans so that's okay with me
  6. Me four! Can't say exactly how much I'll be able to add to my pledge. It kinda depends on how well the Black Isle Bastards are doing, since I'd like them to succeed, but I guess even little amounts help.
  7. I guess boreal has come to mean a cold region, but I still kinda like the idea of having called the "Australian Dwarfs". Bonus points if Sagani had been armed with a unique dagger called "A Knife", had a hat with corks dangling from it and called everyone "bogans".
  8. I hope they don't go the route of "sheaving" weapons like pollaxes and pikes on your back. That always looks dumbs to my mind. Instead have them rest their weapon on their shoulder.
  9. Actually it's Mountain Dwarfs that are explorers, not Boreal* Dwarfs. *On a side note, isn't the homeland of the Boreal Dwarfs in the south? As such they are rather misnamed. They should be Austalian Dwarfs.
  10. I think it's the latter, though obviously not with those specific combinations. Essentially I think he's saying each enchantment category will be able to be upgraded once, but I don't think he's saying weapons can only have a single enchantment category.
  11. Well you'd be putting Boeroer out of a job for one But more generally, a lot of people (myself included) enjoy the process of designing builds for Pillars, so not being able to do so would be a loss for them. Beyond that, I feel that doing so would reduce the ability to imbue items with personality: each item has its little description/story but the more aspects of the item are randomised the fewer you can reference in the description. Interesting, though it doesn't really tell us much more about how limiting this will be to item choice.
  12. I just want a CRPG that has a real AI GM. Is that too much to ask?
  13. What we know right now are the flaws in the old system, and at least one piece of information about the new system, namely the restriction on quality enchantments. I can't see how that change will fix any of the flaws of the old system. Of course it might be that there are lots of other changes that we don't know about yet, and that the combination of those changes will indeed fix all flaws with the old system. If so, any developer who happens across this discussion will simply think "ah well, when they see the full system they won't worry" and that's fine. But on the off chance that this is something they haven't realised/thought of (and don't discount that possibility) then it's no bad thing that they're reminded of it. If nothing else, perhaps this thread will prompt a developer diary talking about enchanting in more detail, which would be cool.
  14. At the end of most my playthroughs the Black Hound Inn in Gilded Vale is the proud owner of a few hundred of those spears
  15. Give me some time and I'll run the numbers on this. EDIT: or not, it's proving more time consuming that anticipated since it depends on attack speed bonus excluding the +20% from a weapon, accuracy without a weapon bonus, deflection of the enemy, damage modifiers and probably a few other factors that I haven't thought of yet. My rough work so far suggests that you're probably right so long as the enemy's deflection isn't too much higher than your character's accuracy (missing is a pretty big damage down) and, of course, the character hasn't already got 0 recovery (fairly easy to do with dual wielding, harder with single weapon or two-hander).
  16. I believe that, even if you import a character, you can pick a new level 1 class, so you won't be limiting your multiclassing options. That said, I understand the enjoyment of creating new characters
  17. Yep, I think this solves the problem as it existed in PoE perfectly, and as you say the White March already started this process off. If we're talking real world examples: people with enough money will pay someone to have both. Of course perhaps there aren't enchanters in Eora capable of replicating the best enchantments, so perhaps that's not an option. No, you can be fairly certain that, excluding a handful of other players, no one knows the benefits of the various enchantments better than Boeroer. It's actually because Accuracy is by far and away the most important thing in PoE.
  18. I didn't realise that no. In which case it's largely correct.
  19. But the game he finished doesn't exist anymore. In fact some of his criticisms weren't true even of PoE on release.
