You know, I've never used Stormcaller on a Chanter (it's just so good on Rangers). I had to look up what spell it procs on hits/crits and it's one with a push effect. I could imagine that being annoying if you don't micro your Chanter carefully i.e. you set him shooting, the spell procs and then he chases the enemy to get back in range and suddenly finds himself in a bad position.

I agree that in the sorts of encounters that are represented in Pillars of Eternity (small skirmishes between no more than thirty combatants, usually fewer) bows would be more useful than guns. On a larger scale things change, but you simply can't execute an effective pike and shot formation with six people and the speed of bows would be more useful than the penetrative power of guns. In particular someone wielding an arquebus is simply less manoeuvrable since at some point they have to stand still for a not insignificant amount of time to reload, and this is a serious liability in a small skirmish. However: Not really no. Under absolutely optimal conditions (striking a thinner part of the armour at an almost perpendicular angle at very close range) a longbow* might be able to penetrate plate, but likely without sufficient energy to do any real damage. I can almost guarantee that any test you can name that says otherwise is using non-accurate armour and unrealistic conditions. Even riveted mail plus a gambeson is good enough to stop the vast majority of arrows from a longbow from penetrating deep enough to do real damage (again, if you have a video of a longbow arrow defeating mail ask yourself the following questions: is it riveted or butted? Are the rings oversized? Is it attached firmly to a piece of wood or against something that can give a little as a human with a gambeson underneath would?). This is a very interesting video on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1WZLVZYBwQ

Personally I quite like the idea of having experience only awarded by critical path quests, and having side quests reward you primarily through interesting items and interesting stories. This would remove this problem altogether. However I realise I am in the minority with this, and the solution you describe the devs describing is basically the compromise version of that solution. Honestly I wouldn't mind this, but for a lot of people a steep power curve is desirable. They want that feeling you get when you stomp on an enemy that was once the bane of your existence.

@AlphaMagnum looking at the two builds, they have relatively similar Attributes and their talent selections aren't all that different either. I think if you read through the description for each and pick out the key talents and abilities for each one. Write those down and see if a build has space for them all, then fill in any remaining gaps with whichever picks you prefer. I think the main thing standing in your way as far as combing the two is that the Drake's Ambassador wants to maximise the amount of time Dragon Thrashed is firing (to the extent you might not even want to cast invocations at all), but Chillfog uses the phrase Mercy and Kindness to buff his healing and is a high level phrase, thus is long. Combining the two phrases to achieve both objectives might not be all that doable.

That could work, but I'd argue against it increasing all defences. Fortitude seems to be your body's ability to shrug off effects once they hit it and Will seems to be the mental equivalent. I'd limit such a talent to just Deflection and Reflex. By the way, I should note that I am not against such an idea.

Yep, Obsidian made an update to say as much. -
Well armour doesn't directly impact on your defences in PoE, only your damage reduction, and I think a talent that raises damage reduction for light armours would be odd. As for deflection, lightly armoured characters have the same options as heavily armoured ones, unless you're avoiding shields as well.

So true! I want to wear a duellist's hat all the way through the game! It's not clear whether Steadfast was forged during the course of the game or shortly before it, but it's definitely not old; Stormcaller's description describes several owners and a journey across the Deadfire Archipelago, so I wouldn't call it new; as for Abydon's Hammer, well it might have been crafted during the course of the game, but it's crafted from something pretty ancient and powerful.

These haven't been decided yet (or at least haven't been announced). There was a thread discussing what should be allowed to be changed with some people arguing that you shouldn't be allowed to change these things since it broke immersion and others pointing out that since it was optional why would that matter (you can probably guess I fall into the latter camp).

That's not all that far off what it currently tells you, it just doesn't tell you the number of ticks. I agree that that's probably all most people want to know. It's only for those that want to know the precise details that this isn't really enough in that it doesn't make it clear that (under the current system) ticks are always at 3s intervals with the exception of the last tick, which will happen at the end of the duration regardless and do proportionally less damage.

I'll play the noob here. Which isn't a problem, because I am. I don't understand that. OK, I understand it, but I have to think about it. It's not tooltip-simple. I just reread it and yeah, it's confusing on several fronts. It's not clear to me how you can make a clear tooltip for dots given the way they scale with intellect at the moment.
