  1. That's how I read it. It doesn't make sense, at least to me, for him to be talking about the current state. In any case we'll see soon enough.
  2. You might be a good listener, but you don't seem to know the difference between past and present tense. Josh was talking about how they felt before the change.
  3. Again, past tense (bolded for emphasis). What was the reason they felt weaker? They didn't have "anywhere near the same number of abilies". What big change was made to single class characters in the latest beta? They were given an extra ability point every power level. When combined with Josh's comments that neither multi- or single-class characters feel, overall, more powerful, I think it's safe to conclude that Josh was not saying that multiclass characters are more powerful.
  4. A lot of the things I am referring to are widely regarded as great works of art, so I'm dubious that I am in some sort of minority here. I simply don't believe that, and I don't believe it because I think it's based on an overly simplistic application of evolutionary psychology to a concept we don't really understand. Yes, it's a very neat theory but neatness doesn't imply truth.
  5. No he didn't. He said "I think it's less likely that multiclassing, overall, is going to be worse the single classing, or vice versa" i.e. in general neither has an obvious advantage over the other. He does mention that certain multiclass combinations will probably turn out to be overpowered after release and that they can tune them in patches. He also said "I think that single class felt, like, fairly far behind, even though they had higher power levels and access to higher level abilities sooner, they still felt like they were kinda losing out because they didn't have anywhere near the same number of abilities." Notice the use of the past tense combined with the reason for them feeling weaker being lack of abilities. Its clear he thinks that giving them the extra ability at each new power level solves this.
  6. It's a really nice idea. I can just imagine the ancient Engwithan animancers, having just made their old gods real, deciding to carry on and make more gods.
  7. It's funny how many things I find beautiful which go against what evolution has dictated I should find beautiful. Almost like beauty might be a little more complicated than "a picture of our ideal environment".
  8. I've tended to view entropy not as a destructive force, but as a renewing one. Caldara de Berranzi says: "Oh yes. Entropy. Rymrgand's work. We know little of why or how. We lose pieces of ourselves when we die and pick up pieces of others when we are born again, but less than what we lost." Which supports the idea that some of what is lost from a soul via entropy is added to other souls. That souls diminish over time might be explained by a need (or desire) to create completely new souls. Given the harm that being reborn can have (see awakenings and the quest Into the White Void) it's not clear that this is a cruel act. Of course I could be completely wrong and entropy might literally destroy souls completely. Either way, I take the view that if Rymrgand was designed, programmed if you will, to be the god who governs entropy then, even if entropy is a bad thing I don't view him as being cruel any more than I view a bomb as being cruel. His creators on the other hand... I like that idea.
  9. Why? That makes multiclass characters objectively better. Even ignoring synergies they'd have the same number of abilities, the same ability progression but they'd have a bigger pool to pick from.
  10. Not sure it would. How many different high level abilities are you going to spam realistically? I suspect no more than two. You'd have those anyway so it's not like having a bunch more would actually make you more powerful. That would also be nice. I find that, for a fair number of builds (both single and multiclass), I just don't want anything for the first few levels.
  11. Or any melee class that takes Fighter as part of their build and uses Cleave Stance.
  12. Synergy between abilities makes that a bad idea. If anything multiclass characters should progress more slowly, although with power level being the same as ability level I can't see that happening.
  13. Given the resource cost of abilities goes up at higher levels I don't know that that would be all that great an idea. I suppose high level passives might be more powerful, though at lower levels the passives don't seem to get better at higher power levels.
  14. Yeah I also doubled the scroll speed in the options menu as the default is far too slow for me.
  15. I never use edge scrolling (WASD all the way) so haven't noticed anything. Is this map exploration mode or in the party level mode by the way? I noticed that the exploration mode has follow toggle which, if you don't unselect it, will make it so that every time you issue a command the camera will zoom to your location and follow you again.
  16. That's complicated to answer in full as its effects vary between different spells and abilities. An example that's easy to see is Minoletta's Minor Missiles. Create a single class Wizard with the spell and at level 1 it'll fire 3 missiles. Now level up to 9 and, if I remember correctly, it'll now fire 5 missiles (I think it's one extra missile every 2 power levels). It's penetration value will also increase.
  17. This. A thousand times this. Summoned weapons were nerfed in Deadfire because otherwise, in the hands of a Wizard dualed with a martial class, they'd be too powerful. If only there was some inbuilt system that allowed them to scale differently for single and multiclass Wizards. Oh wait, power level does that. As a bonus point that would make Conjurers suck a little bit less. I hadn't thought about Spiritshift but the very same applies.
  18. Agreed! As far as I understand it, Pale Elves are elves who have lived in very cold environments for long enough to adapt to them. Their current model makes them look almost like Frost Godlike's, with little bits of frost twinkling in their flesh.
  19. Not overly. I expect it to be pretty unbalanced: PoE was unbalanced at release and it had far less to balance than Deadfire does. Over time it'll get better, like PoE, and eventually it'll reach a place of reasonably good balance.
