  1. Yeah, but think how hard a cyberpunk world with elves would be to ingest. Especially if it's party based and relies heavily on it's story( as was common with BIS-games)
  2. ...Final Fantasy's been combining medieval fantasy and sci-fi since Final Fantasy 4, and the series is still going strong. Even in the massive multiplayer online 'roll'-playing front, you have titles like Project Entropia, Anarchy Online, and other such sci-fi games. And those seem to get good recognition as well. Hell, Star Wars is basically fantasy meets sci-fi, and how successful is it? True on all instances. Still, FF is a respected for it's own worth. For being a good jrpg-series. I wouldn't really call them scifi here, and on the other hand their largest audience is still where the jrpgs's home is at: Japan. Even if the games stopped selling in the western world, Square still would have more than enough buyers back home. About scifi mmos, they're...well mmorpgs? Both of your examples came out during the huge mmorpg boom, which is still going on. True, they are rpgs in sense and gathered an userbase for just being different from the majority of the other mmos, but we were talking about crpgs, weren't we? (What were those other scifi games you mentioned? I'd like to have examples.) About SW, the only examples of succesful merging of crpg and SW are KotOR-games. The first one had the reputation of Bioware to back it up. The second is still on the verge of being a huge hit, but when it does cross that line; an argument must be made that a huge part of it's buyers were the original fanbase of KotOR 1, having nothing to do with scifi. On the other hand, a big factor fo their success was also the sensation of new. Which kind of undermines my argument I really want to be wrong, you know.
  3. I had not yet voted when I made my last post, but after giving my vote to Shadowrun, I begun to wonder if it's such a good idea after all. I mean, sure we need more scifi and less fantasy crpgs, but would it really gather a large audience of buyers? Nowadays crpgs are of the mmo variety, usually fantasy-themed and most of them have a cancer of munchkinism. All of these are feats which are not really represented in the world of Shadowrun. Most of the so-called veterans would propably buy it right away, but how could it appeal to the mass where the money is at? More boobs, perhaps? "
  4. Hmm... Mandatory german doesn't sound bad. Coinsidering that so many euros are related to it somehow.
  5. Not bloody likely guys. That petition's helping value is straight nil.
  6. It's rather hard to make an easily controllable rpg for a console, without resorting to first person perspective. As the svirfneblin guy said, controllers are too clumsy. And RTS's? Ever played Age of Empires 2 on PS2? Horrible, absolutely horrible.
  7. Own setting, own rule-system, old-school-CRPG-style and ... PC-only, then I'd be happy. Although I'm pretty sure old-school-CRPG-style and PC-only are probably not going to happen ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I must agree, again, with Sermon here. There's not going to be another Planescape game, so this would be the second best option. Nice big cities, pirates, dungeon hacking, party banter and no D&D.
  8. You registered to ask that? Shadowrun: Think of Cyberpunk with magic, elves and such.
  9. More than 2 different endings in KotOR? No way; you either reigned supreme as a sith lord or get patted to the back by Republic. Nothing else.
  10. So, what do you guys(and gals) picture in your heads, when you see for example jaguars4ever's avatar?
  11. Exactly my thoughts of the game. See folks, you just have to push them a bit and they'll talk their heart out.
  12. Great idea for a thread and all, but what does it have to do with deus ex machina?
  13. Where could I see this?
  14. Fu'ck. Not bloody likely.
  15. When most of the fans seem to have KotOR 1 as their first CRPG-experience, their opinions usually hardly matter, on the other hand this forum is full of eccentric p'n'p-veterans who have too frickin' high qualifigations of what makes a good game. I usually just trust the folks in the middle ground.
  16. Strength: About 12ish, I haven't worked out a ot, but with these genes... Dexterity: 13, same points here, but I have better balance and grace of movement, than raw strength Constitution: 10-13, can take a beating, but not that long. Intelligence: 14, above average, but nothing spetacular. Wisdom: 15 This is what counts, I have good memory etc. Charisma: 12 isn't that high, but if I try to manipulate, or outright lie straight to face, it usually works. Fighter/Rogue, perhaps some kind of information gatherer/spy?
  17. I agree that there's a need for some old-fashioned CRPG-goodness, but I doubt there really is a market for it. Btw, great avatar, Sermon. Where is it from?
  18. On the other hand, we must not forget that Sargy is a devoted PS:T-fanatic, so if you want less biased opinions I think you should just wait a bit.
  19. If somebody has watched the sitcom 'Titus', I usually picture the main character babbling when I read posts, which is really wierd as I don't even like the series.
  20. Seth Putnam is gay. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And anyone else who uses corpsepaint isn't?
  21. I agree that the world feels a bit claustrophobic and dreadfully easy, but it's good to get if not for anything else than the story. Personally I loved the levels, but could never really get the hang of the game. No matter, community is getting more and more mission builders now that the editor has been released. I doubt anyone is going to be dissappointed playing that game.
  22. You should visit more often http://www.thief-thecircle.com/shownews.asp?id=1769
  23. Ditto. It's especially fun when some of the former developers have decided to enter the community and not only share insider-info, but to some extent even make new missions. Feels like you get a free expansion BlueNinja, are you at TTLG? And if so, then what's your nick there?
  24. I wonder how many will vote Torment?
