Brothers in Arms or Republic Commando?
Musopticon? replied to DarthLightsaber's topic in Way Off-Topic
Gongratulations! You managed to miss the single-player games-forum just an inch lower thab way off-topic. EDIT: And by the way; Brothers in Arms. -
My xbox-playing friend told me about this. Thought we'd call it a "special effect"

This game looks and sounds sweet. (What? I love short contributions.)

Damn you, Telia-Sonera. Shouldn't start megacorporation-like plans if you don't own half the country. You're no Weyland-Yutani after all.
-
Really? I've been bull****ted then. Well, atleast it has movies by Rust Monkey. What, pray tell, was the developer responsible for HotU then?

I found the Hordes-expansion in a store near me to cost only 14.95 euros. Worth buying? I have the original game, which I played till the third chapter became overpowering in suckiness. Then I began playing the modules. Soon I started to hate the fact that most of the interesting(I don't mean the BEST) ones were HotU-reliant, and therefore unavailable for me. Also, there's been many good reviews of this expansion, and the team, Floodgate, has some people originating from the dream-team Looking Glass working amongst them. Still, I'd like to hear humble gamers's opinion, Bioboards for example are too biased, but I've learned to trust the folks populating this board. Worth buying?

It's good. Nothing great, but good in overall. Best thing LucasArts has made themselves since the adventure games. That's not much though.

Middle-American or Empiric China would rock some worlds. And not all of them mine. Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Teotihuacan, anyone?
-
I bought it. Off to get some scares now.

For some reason, everytime I try to start BG I just get bored fast and uninstall everything. Last time I played, got as far as Cloakwood(or was it?) and then just stopped playing. I think I've never seen city of Baldur's Gate eventhough I'm a huge Infinity-fan.

I know what you are saying, System Shock 2 is my favourite game ... but these are the facts. Reasons for the Fall: A Post-Mortem On Looking Glass Studios Peace out. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've read the post-mortem in some form or another. Proud member of Through the Looking Glass... Thanks anyway. Admiration or idolization isn't a big enough word for my feelings for LGS. Long live their legacy. -
I'm happy if my thread encourages someone else to buy Undying. Thank's for your contribution everyone and keep'em coming.

Fion, I'm sorry for my unthought answer to this topic. Hopefu

Maybe he/she/it wants to have 300X300 anime pictures as sigs and a cheery colour palette for the forums? Including animated smilies. *shivers*

I think I'll wait a few years before playing Torment again. A truly lovely game from what's I probably remember hardly anything about after two years or so. Thank God(s) for loose human memory.

Well, I place all dungeon crawlers under the same category. Some of those are just a bit more intelligent than others.

I've been reading a lot of RPG-forums recently and the general concensus seems to be that IWD2 was a great bit harder than all the other Infinity games. I can't understand that. Sure it got some very strategic battles and you had to sometimes use your party's skills to their maximum effect, but in overall I consider it to be almost a cakewalk compared to BG 2 and 1. BG 2 had insane spell-spamming battles and hard mages and on the other hand, BG 1 was a newbie's nightmare(and mage's <_< ), having one of the hardest starts ever. I remember dieing several times in the first wolf encounter. And the undead wolf pack? Frickin' insane. What do you CRPG-players extraordinaries think? Though or not? (have my posts suddenly become a great bit longer?)

Diablo= dungeon crawl. No? Maybe I used the term diablo-clone a bit loosely. Sorry for offending any IWD-fans.

Once upon a time there was a game developing company called Looking Glass Studios. This company was much loved by both it's fans and it's workers. LGS was one of those pioneer-companies, threading through un-trekked grounds of new game concepts and in the process put out some of the most memorable games ever. Such as, Terra Nova, Ultima Underworld, System Shock, THIEF. Then there was a little boy, only 11 years old who was instantly stunned by the sheer genious of the Thief Series. He woved to be a supporter and a fan for LGS forever. Then came the end. Looking Glass was just putting the finishing touches to the gold edition of one of their best games, Thief 2. They never had the time to finish it, as their publisher, Eidos closed the studio, giving their support to the recently well-doing Ion Storm Dallas, in hopes to get the most hyped after PC-game, Daikatana ready. Ion Storm flourished, LGS died. Most of the fans were dumbstruck as their flagship of hope sunk down. The little boy almost cried. There would be no more Thiefs. Then, two yeasr or so later, a shard of hope struck the long-forgotten chords of hope in the souls of LGS-fans. System Shock 2 had been a blast, but there was the sub-group of fans, including the little boy, yearning after more adventures in the semi-steampunkish world of Thief. They were not forgotten, as the Thief series were given green light: Development of Thief 3 was given to Ion Storm Austin. Daikatana had been a let-down, but Deus Ex had bombed, so it came as no-surprise that the gaming community was ready for a new intelligent FPS. Years went by, and the little boy wasn't so little anymore. Thief 3 had been in development well over 3 years now, and screenshots had been starting to surface, showing a clever use of shadows, and a thing which would ultimately be the game's let-down: Console-compatibility. Many fans moaned in loathing, as the more and more news of new "features" came up. Swimming, rope-arrows, steampunk-robots; all of these were missing. With their loss came the new, very-gamey-like additions. Many were convinced that the Ion Stormers, many of whom were old-LGS-members, were sellouts. Not the little boy. A wov was a wov. Then came the day when the little boy finally got the long-waited successor of the sneaker-series. It bombed. It rocked. It scared the crap out of the boy. It wasn't a let-down, but the boy still put it away and returned to the old Thief's. Why? Too much hype, too many spoilers, too little replayability. And no Thief3ED. The boy was a little sad, as Ion Storm flew out of the door. By the same reason as LGS: Too small commercial success. Eidos was a rough publisher. Sparks of hope still lingered, though. Maybe there would still be an editor for Thief 3? The little boy could only hope. Thankfully, LGS's legacy lives on in the form of Irrational, Floodgate and Rust Monkey. -
IWD1 was a rush job? How so? You didn't like the hack'n'slash-aspect of the game? If you don't know yet, it was sort of ment to be a D&D-Diablo-clone, not a BG-like CRPG-epic.

http://www.gamershell.com/screenpop.php?id=8646 After seeing what I think as the best screen ever in PC games, I've convinced myself to buy this supposedly gem-of-a-game. Judging by everything I've seen this ame just oozes atmosphere. And is dirt cheap after these three years. I found it for 10 euros in a bargain bin. A must-buy for myself, but what do you fellow forumers think about this game? I'd like to see some comments, please.
