Ya I wish they'd ge out of our lap, they sweat alot <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think John Howard is aware of your gripes. This changes nothing, however. You might just as well tell Canada to stop living next door to the US, for all the good it will do you. A goverment's first responsibility is defence. Period. It is pragmatism. While the US keeps the peace, I see no moral imperative to prevent them from having nuclear weapons. Don't forget all the permanent members of the Security Council, as well as a few others, have them. If China picks a fight with the US, then you'll be glad the US has nukes. There is no way to win a conventional war against China.

People fight their family members, so I doubt the issues are external to humans. We are wired to be competitive, and that means fighting. And war is just the logical extension of this. People would argue about which end of the egg should be opened.

The U.N. is ridiculous, seriously ridiculous
metadigital replied to kumquatq3's topic in Way Off-Topic
Because the system is inherently combatative. Winner takes all. Being in opposition relegates politicians of equal merit to just being the naysayers of whatever the government decides. Which is quite wrong. I can understand where the party system came from, and what it is trying to achieve, but I think it fails as a cogent form of government. Coherent, yes. Effecacious, yes. But then, Hitler got the trains to run on time ... What I'm saying is there needs to be more "conscience" voting. Why this term even exists demonstrates the biggest flaw in Western democracies. -

Revan & the Exile's gender/alignment

Yes, it does. Listen, Nazi, my opinion is just as valid as yours, even if you don't like it. I am posting my comment on the question posed. If you don't like it, don't read it. And don't spam the topic telling me not to post. -
He's a placeholder for the future. If they make another game, they have a ready character to use as a high-level NPC (even a bad guy). I found no joy in replaying the game. I discovered nearly all the story in the first playthrough. That's because the combat was identical (same engine); except that, for reasons not explained, the BAB is uniform to all classes of Jedi and so overwelming that it quickly dwarfs all other combat bonuses due to attributes, feats, skills and items. Secondly, it appears that a decision was made late in the development cycle to multiply all the XP gained from combat (probably doubling it across the board). I can only deduce that this was to ensure that players experienced their PC at epic levels, after discovering that there was insufficient content to do so. After all, there's not much point in raising the level cap to 50 if the PC can only reach level fifteen. I agree with your conclusion, but not all of your reasoning. The exposition of the story suffered at the hands of a clumsy, unsophisticated and unfinished Influence System. Secondly, I actually enjoy the philosophical underpinnings of the story, except where they are added as an afterthought, like this game. What I did like was the complexity of Kreia as a character (not a pantomime cut-out) and the range of play available for the PC. In fact, one of my criticisms is there were insufficient roles for the PC to play: outside of Goody-two-shoes, sack-of-kittens-drowner and a grey, median-type character that didn't always do the right thing but was basically not evil. Can't argue with this. The villains were obviously the last design item on the development schedule, because they were heavily cut. Atris as the baddy for a DS Exile, for example, would have made a big difference. Ditto for Nihilus being a real character.

Any enthusiasm I had for playing this game evaporated on the second playthrough, when I realised that the entire endgame is scripted exactly the same, regardless of what I do. I may load the game again, to play the content mod. Or not. If I do, I won't play the game again afterwards; there are too many better games out there.

Revan & the Exile's gender/alignment
metadigital replied to GhostofAnakin's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Ugh. I. HATE. THESE. TOPICS. "Official"? What a load of garbage. Both the Exile and Revan were chosen by the players of the game. I do not want someone telling me what to choose, nor that my choices are invalid. Therefore I reject out of hand all attempts by sad anoraks to pigeon-hole the already-overly-simplistic characters into even more mindnumbingly shallow stereotypes (if that is possible). What is Revan? She is female, or male, LS or DS. Depending on what I chose when I play. Ditto for the Exile. Mental invalids that require an "authority figure" to choose for them can indulge themselves in this digital onanism, I shall treat it with the disdain it deserves. All we need now is some idiot to suggest that they "really, really love each other, very much" (for the benefit of the Right Wing militant Religious Conservatives) and there'll be a baby. T'rific. Just what the lame series needs. A lame PC to end it. /digusted. -

1. Senator Organa. 2. Force is not a spacial force; "Judge me by my size, do you?" (Yoda, ESB) 3. You cannot possibly know that. She did for a short while, and that's what I think the tomb shows. I considered the whole tomb like a "second chance" test to Exile and I played it with the (trying to be LS) reasoning that you don't regret anything because it made you the person you are now. ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No. The Koriban tomb was all in the Exile's mind. It was not a timemachine, it was not a view of the past or future, or even alternate realities. It was a bunch of Assassins, masked by the DS, in the guise of familiar people to attack the Exile's mind. None of the team mates in the tomb, for example, were really there. "Apathy is death!" -

I think a lot of people are in danger of limiting the game unnecessarily; sure Brianna wasn't involved in the game if your Exile was female, for example. This doesn't mean she doesn't exist, for the purposes of future games; she already felt different and was ostracised by her sisters and Atris, so it is not a big jump to her joining a female Exile / Mical / Bastila / Atris / whomever ex post facto. Especially if Atris was spared (all the sisters weren't), then she would look upon Brianna with different eyes ... -
I think there is cause to seperate the score from the sound, which is why I titled this thread "sound". Of course a good score can improve the mood, immersion, tension, suspension of disbelief, practically everything (just watch The Omen and tell me it isn't so ...), but equally music on repeat can soon take away almost everything that it gave the game. The GTA series seems to have clevery invested in audio, so that it is even possible to load up the player's own music. I think the soundscape in NwN was pretty well handled; the soundtrack of the first game, particularly when the PC had to descend into the jail, was very apt (chains and screams).

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1. Controversial, but I have no problem with bringing any of the Grey Jedi back as teachers. If Jolee is still around, he would provide just the antidote to the illness that the Jedi Council seems to be suffering from (or rather, seemed to be suffering from, before they were all killed). Sure, it means that Revan couldn't have killed him on the Star Forge, but that is not a big assumption to make, after all he might never have gone. 2. I see no problem with this either, despite Calax's (wrong) assertion that it is impossible. I would like to play every race as a PC (well, except for Jawas and Hutts, but that's personal preference). 3. If you remember K1, there were more and more common instances of the Rakatans being Force Sensitive; recall the barbarian leader was FS. And, um, you could always just copy and paste from the post immediately above, if you had a problem with spelling ... it must have taken longer to type your explanation than to do that. Also, Revan's dead, Zed. -
