Hey forum friends and deadfire enthusiasts! I'm working to get one last run completed prior to Deadfire on April 3rd, and my hopes are to port this character over. My deadfire team will look like PC Tank Wizard/Paladin, Eder Rogue, Tekehu Chanter, Xoti Priest, and the fifth spot will be open for Aloth, Maia, Serafen, etc. I've started this POTD run (my first, completed on Hard before) and have just entered Defiance Bay. The party looks like this: Kana - tank, later Dragon Thrashed MC Wizard, tanky, spamming slicken and curse of blackened sight Eder, 2-hand Lady of Pain Hireling Monk, Juggernaut to be replaced with Zahua Durance, Tanky Buff spammer My question - how would you build the Wizard? Is Wzard Tank still viable? My squad is low on AoE so my plan was for this guy to absorb hits while spamming CC's like Call to Slumber, etc., giving time for Eder and Zahua (and Dragon Thrashed) to thin out the herds of mobs. Open to feedback on the squad as well - though in the spirit of Deadfire I plan to keep the party limit at 5. Thank you!

release date and current ship combat system
Frog Man replied to mrmonocle's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Josh said in one of the articles that they are making it pretty easy to bypass this whole system if you’re not into it. You can just sail up close and board the enemy ship, thus engaging in classic ol’ POE hack and slash combat, which I will certainly be doing. You can also keep the entry level ship the entire game, another feature I’ll likely take advantage of. So fret not dear forum-goers. You can wait out the ship system until it’s improved if you wish. -

He’s pretty responsive on Twitter. I’ve received several responses from him there. @sonic_prescence -

Fun ideas Max! Can you talk more about the wizard build? Does the weapon matter at all? I’m assuming this guy does atrocious melee damage anyway and you’re just building him tanky so he can survive to throw out more confusions, slumbers, and slickens. Btw I know the stats are off, but I’m assuming this play style works with Aloth?

Good for you! Skip over hard and jump right to POTD. I would strongly recommend the in-game companions. They enrich the experience with their personality and banter and they are quite strong as well! They will start off a level higher than custom companions anyway. The advice you are going to get here is that you can build your team however you like. Looking at your specifications, I would do the following: PC Melee Cipher - 1 hand saber and shield. Focus on CC and later defensive mindweb. Durance - the only MUST character IMO. Priests make life so much easier with their buffs and spells. Plus He is fantastically voiced and written. Kana Rua- main tank. Healing AOE and later awesome damage with dragon thrashed. Pallegina - 1hand tanks build. Focus on improving accuracy for the team. Marking weapons to help the next character ... Eder - Tanky dual wielder with war hammers. Zahua- you said you wanted sturdy team right? Add another beefy dps! Juggernaut build from these forums. Fist dps. That’s a heavy melee and sturdy party. Sub out Eder or Zahua for A wizard or Druid and that would work great as well. A wizard or Druid would be amazing for AOE cc to let this beefy team go to town on everyone. You still don’t need to rest much. Just save your big spells (storm, confusion) for the hardest fights. Hiravias or Aloth work perfectly fine.

How tastes vary. I find this to be one of the best additions to Deadfire, though right now my optimism is based more around what was promised rather than what is in. The most clear advantage this kind of worldmap is the ability to explore and discover. While prerendered actual maps look better at this moment, they consume a lot of artists time, while not providing much in return. PoE and BG1 is filled with maps which are nothing more than empty fields filled with trash mob. It’s not great. Worldmap provides an exploration aspect of those maps (clearing up a map, meeting encounters, finding loot & unique encounters) at a much lower production cost, reserving time and money for actual areas to me rendered. Moreover, you can hide special encounters or areas which is always fun. Right now overworld map is lacking most of its mechanics and is not finished graphically - no random encounters, no ship management, no ship to ship combat&boarding. Once it is in, hopefully it will feel like part of your journey rather than getting from Point A to B. Overworks maps worked great in cRPGs in a past (Fallouts, Arcanum, Storm of Zehir) it should be a fine addition here as well. Came here to post much of the same. Tastes vary indeed! I LOVE the new painted map, and it’s even more fun in the ship. A tremendous addition to the game.

Welcome! You've got one hell of an adventure ahead of you. I've been playing the game for years and am just finishing up another exciting run! The Obsidian Builds List in these forums is perfect for what you what. Don't feel like you need to follow them to 'T' ...you can use them as a guide and make tweaks based on items you want. But always feel free to make a post on here as you've got some incredibly talented folks who enjoy answering build questions. Also, I seriously doubt you'll see any spoilers in those builds. and many of them can be used for the NPC companions! Here's a few that come to mind: Durance - fire priest build Eder - Lady of Pain build Hiravias - Thundercat Aloth - Ziblastian Hurtstacker Kana Rua - Chillfong Chanter build Hope this helps!

Fun concept! Feels Gandalf-y to me.

I like Gromnir, but he’s getting crankier by the day.
