This entertaining (and educational) text brought to you by the BBC digs into the origins of a lot of english swear words. Warning, many of the words are ones that would be filtered out here on the forums http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A753527

As the oldest of three brothers, I can definitely relate to your wifes position

I think it's 340 foot across, not deep. He could always try to get his big rubberband to fling him across the hole then.

Do you prefer the Fantasy genre for CRPG's ?
Gorth replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Computer and Console
I think "fantasy" (the stuff with tree hugging elves and such in it) ranks a shared third space from the bottom of what is my list of preferred genre for crpgs. Competing very hard with Star Wars about who gets second and who gets third. Probably because of the similarities (jedi really feel like multiclassed mage/ranger, mage/fighter and and pure mage). The bottom position is things set in the "real", modern world. Above that... a lot of different genres and settings (bladerunner/syndicate wars, Worlds of Darkness, Warhammer 40K, Cyberpunk, etc.) -
Half the fun is listening to people telling why they don't finish the games. Real life , bugs/issues, boring, etc. Do game developers put less effort into the endings because they don't expect gamers to finish the games or do gamers put less effort into finishing the games because games developers don't bother to make the ending worth it?

That would be two games in 22-23 years... NWN1, managed to get halfway through chapter 4. Failed Will check against boredom  Oblivion, Borrowed a colleagues game to try out for a week (since it's available pretty cheap from EB games here in Adelaide, I wanted to try before I buy). The only thing mildly interesting were the Dark Brotherhood quest. Nice engine though, maybe somebody will someday release a game on it that I would like to play Otherwise, I think I've completed each and every crpg that I've played

Based on personal experience, I recommend option 2. It's way more exciting

Baldur's Gate - whole series for ten quid

I liked the Severed Hand better -
I'm torn between joy and sadness. I hope they make a new real x-com game, but I fear that they will try to make action game number 632, disregarding everything that made x-com... well x-com. I think I might just install x-com apocalypse and run it in dos-box again. Long time no see.

I'm not sure what fileformat .ram is, but my work computer doesn't support it. It's probably RealAudio There wouldn't by any chance be transscripts of it somewhere?

Obviously you suffered a zombie related incident as a child and have since repressed the memory. I was attacked by a wild dog... I still have the scars on my forehead. "Braainssss!..." Isn't there a professional term for the event, where your mind swaps part of your memory with something that it feels more comfortable with? Like Zombie -> Dog

This reminds me of, that I hevent seen The Fifth Element for way too long

All noted down :thanks: ... I have my own theory on why the Roman civilisation didn't last (something to do with way too complicated grammar and number systems)

Uhuh... sure Much appreciated. I'll save this thread.

Thanks Meta Eagerly awaiting second part. First part looks familiar (and unlike the online translations, which incuded stuff like "ego" and what have you). I gave up on the sig viewing a long time ago. Blame Servant of Eru aka Child of Flame aka Fenghuang (sp?) for that These days I check peoples profiles to see their sigs

Baldur's Gate - whole series for ten quid

One thing I don't understand about the various IWD releases is, why they never include Trials of the Luremaster on a cd? I've bought IWD, Heart of Winter, and the IWD The "Ultimate" Collection. I put Ultimate in quotation marks because, while it included everything from sound track cd's to strategy guides in pdf format on cd, it did not include Trials of the Luremaster. Is that expansion some kind of pariah or...? just a rant. I love my IWD boxed set, since it gave me all the other goodies, including IWD2 which I didn't have before. Similar weird that they couldn't figure out how to put a cd with the most recent patches available into the IWD and Baldurs Gate boxed sets. You still have to hunt around on the internet for them (unless you are an old gamer who already have them lying around somewhere). -
Brief explanation: I play this miniature wargame called "Warhammer" and I have a nice undead army lead by a vampire lord and his pet necromancer. Part of the hobby, besides playing battles against other peoples armies is the collecting, painting and modelling part. One member of my army is the guy (or rather the skeleton, think "Armies of darkness") who runs around with my battle standard. This banner is (or rather used to be) painted on a small piece of paper and glued to the banner pole. Unfortunately my banner met an ignominous end (I dropped the miniature into a cup of coffee and no, it's no laughing matter, if he hadn't been a skeleton he would have been boiled alive). The guy survived, got a quick bath in clean water and was all shiny and new. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for the banner itself. Time to paint a replacement banner with some heraldic symbols and a catchy motto on it, which is where I need some help. I would like to keep the motto from the old banner, but unfortunately I don't speak latin. The text said: I have a Catapult! Give me your money or I will throw a rock at you (it was made in the time before the rules changed and vampire counts could no longer use catapults. The enemy doesn't need to know though) I tried a couple of online translators, but they came up with different results for the same sentence, so I don't have much faith in them.

I'm not sure. It's hard to describe exactly, but I think it is the being surrounded of a lot of people. Never really thought about at what number or what degree of proximity triggers it. It sometimes happens outdoors too, like amusement parks, crowded railroad stations etc. Makes me want to climb up one of the street lights to get away

I hate to admit it, but the original "The Fog" made me kind of jumpy on my way home after having seen it. It didn't help that I had to cycle through a small remote forested area in... yes, fog. A pox upon my imagination :fear: Non movie related fobias, I got two (that I know of), one being heights and the other being a rather odd one, rooms full of people. Makes me all jumpy and looking for the exit constantly

TSL Restoration Project: The Phantom Deadline
Gorth replied to Aurora's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Yeah, the total issues count is slowly creeping upwards (the last number I remember seeing was 770 total issues). Luckily they seem able to fix them faster than they appear though -
Oldie but goodie... I remember it from when it was young  Who said philosophy wasn't useful?

Bah, you guys wouldn't see a conspiracy even if it slapped you in the face with a trout

An user review of some of Obsidian's products
Gorth replied to ouiouiwewe's topic in Obsidian General
Back when Malachor V was the last and lingering impression of their games I would have disagreed. Fortunately NWN2 came along and made me forget the previous last impression, so now I probably agree (can't think of anything better since VMBL)
