Yeah, same store that sells the super regulated, hard to get, lyrium to anyone who waltzes in from the street The setting doesn't really appeal to me. It just never 'clicked' in my mind. Most of my companions area a bit on the two dimensional side too, making Dog, Sten and Zevran my favourites. Some of the things in the game that do shine are those little details that you notice and often forget afterwards, like the extras in a movie. Some of the non-joinable npcs are just priceless, like Dagna who wants to study the theory of magic or the wonderful duo (Herren and Wade) in Wades Emporium. I guess "discovery" is the main appeal for me in the game

Can't you just download the demo and try? Should be a good indicator whether the full version will run.

There are a some inconsistencies in the game... as an apprentice I couldn't leave the darn tower short of jumping out the second floor window. Yet, no sooner am I out on a "special mission" and what happens? I get tasked with handing out termination notices to a handful of mages apprentices who has nothing better to do than running around in the country side and not a templar in sight. Decided that I had it with Andraste. Andraste this, Andraste that, Andraste everywhere. Being utterly fed up with hearing about Andraste and the Maker all the bloody time, I decided to side with the reavers. Now, if I just had the option to pee in the urn too At least it gave me the last specialisation for my collection. Next game I think am going to play a reaver. Lets see if we can't make the Maker shiver in his boots. Edit: Wynne

Jean Reno I haven't seen a lot of his movies, but what I have seen has been outstanding.

Why not tell her more or less what you said here? Like things didn't go quite as intended and the outside interuptions made you nervous. How about a second date and invite her to the movies or some such. Remember to bring a box of filled chocolates.

Makes you wonder how they get through airport security

Oh, thats what you needed the console for. I just got to that spot too. Not even provoking them by casting a few spells on them could convince them to open the &^%$# gates. Either you have to do something completely different (and non obvious) as a low born dwarf, or you are just screwed. I think I'll retire this game for now and dedicate myself to EUIII.
-
Did you give your main game file the -enabledeveloperconsole option? I.e. not the game launcher, but the main game file daorigins.exe. I needed to create a new desktop shortcut to the main file in order to give it the startup paramter.
-
Is the console supposed to be "visible"? Read somewhere (while browsing around for mods), that the console isn't visible, so your typing better be good. Playing around with my casteless rogue. Went for the ranger, some dual wielding, a bit of archery, especially arrow of slaying, summoning animal companions etc. That ranger specialisation seems somewhat overpowered compared to the other rogue specialisations, those animal summons are not for the whimpy  Edit: Just tried it out. I can't see it, but it works. Just gave myself 1000 gold pieces (some absurdly large number of copper coins).

Thread getting a bit long. More gaming here

Start of old thread End of old thread Playing Europa Universalis III a bit. Just bought the new Heir to the Throne expansion. Yay for me When taking a break from EUIII, I play a bit on my Dragon Age game, progressing my casteless dwarven rogue.

I have exactly one mod installed. A nice little thing that lets you chose your party members stats/talents when they first join your party. It doesn't fiddle with specialisations or starting levels, just leaves all points unassigned. In my current thief game, I have Wynne focusing on spirit magic and Morrigan on entropy magic. I actually wanted to focus myself on entropy magic, but I can't be bothered to play the game as a mage again

AvP banned in Australia because the developer refuses to censor it

And then smuggle it to you in a cake? Aren't cakes traditionally used for smuggling files? I know, bad pun. Shouldn't do this stuff the morning after our xmas function. -
Will Obsidian end up with another Jefferson?

What I wouldn't give for a well made Warhammer (fantasy or 40k, take your pick) crpg... -
There is a drop down menu thingy in the lower right corner that says show last 30 days or so. Just change it to Show 60, 90 or Show All to see the older history of this forum section, including a lot of interesting threads (imo) about how to get started on the gaming industry

"Foreseeing shoals of flying sneakers"... Add my shoes to the list. "The working day is in full swing, and in the evening beer. Because today is Friday."... Nice to see some things are the same all over the world This game looks like a stinker. Gone all Heroes of Might and Magic V on us (which is not meant as a compliment). *Sigh*

After being several times in that fight, somebody here (sorry, forgot who) gave me a hint on how to do it without breaking a sweat. Actually, in my second game, i did it while drinking a mug of coffee at the same time The end fight is still a pain though, although it definitely helped levelling up quite a bit before going there. That particular encounter doesn't seem to "scale". I just finished my second game and when I was to get the epilogue (at what cost etc.) the game decided to crash on me. I've got two saves, one before the fight and one post-game save where I can't see or do anything Off to refight that last fight again I suppose...

Reg: They've bled us white, the bastards. They've taken everything we had, not just from us, from our fathers and from our fathers' fathers. Stan: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers. Reg: Yes. Stan: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers' fathers. Reg: All right, Stan. Don't labour the point. And what have they ever given us in return? Xerxes: The aqueduct. Reg: Oh yeah, yeah they gave us that. Yeah. That's true. Masked Activist: And the sanitation! Stan: Oh yes... sanitation, Reg, you remember what the city used to be like. Reg: All right, I'll grant you that the aqueduct and the sanitation are two things that the Romans have done... Matthias: And the roads... Reg: (sharply) Well yes obviously the roads... the roads go without saying. But apart from the aqueduct, the sanitation and the roads... Another Masked Activist: Irrigation... Other Masked Voices: Medicine... Education... Health... Reg: Yes... all right, fair enough... Activist Near Front: And the wine... Omnes: Oh yes! True! Francis: Yeah. That's something we'd really miss if the Romans left, Reg. Masked Activist at Back: Public baths! Stan: And it's safe to walk in the streets at night now. Francis: Yes, they certainly know how to keep order... (general nodding)... let's face it, they're the only ones who could in a place like this. (more general murmurs of agreement) Reg: All right... all right... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us? Xerxes: Brought peace! Reg: (very angry, he's not having a good meeting at all) What!? Oh... (scornfully) Peace, yes... shut up!

adapt? why is this such a difficult concept to grasp? taks Adapting this thread to the new global temperatures... putting it on ice Seems like we have reached a dead end as far as the exchange of views goes. Is anybody is going to budge from their trenches? I like Walsinghams question though. Might be worth a new thread. Edit: Note to self... need to work out a model that portrays a typical flow of a thread containing political, religious, scientific or philosophical matters.

Maybe they simply decided that the opposition needed spell casters to add a bit of variety to combat, not because it made (or didn't make) sense? Two of the main categories of enemies you run into, humans and darkspawn have very similar line ups. Human opposition have melee fighters, archers, Qunari mercenaries, blood mages etc. Darkspawn have hurlocks, genlocks, ogres and emissaries etc. Sometimes the darkspawn spell casters are replaced by spiders (which makes more sense to me) fulfilling the crowd control role with their webs. Strict adherence to lore may have been a secondary concern to spicing up combat a bit?

I somehow imagine Guard Dog sitting in his home made Fort Knox, armoured bunker, hoarding gold bars and surrounded by angry rotweilers and loaded shotguns >_ It sounds like a wise decision though. If it wasn't so unwieldy and prone to get stolen, I would love to have a growing collection of gold bars stashed away at home. The tax man might complain a bit about the annual brick that gets send to him in gift wrap paper.

Tolkiens orcs are just another kind of elves. Took the loving hand of Melkor to "adjust" them, but hey, sometimes you have to make do with the tools available I like the guy, Together with Sten, he is in my top 3 of favourite DA characters. Not necessarily judged by usefulness. After I finished my first game (human male noble warrior templar/champion), I am 2/3rd the way through as a human female mage healer/blood mage. "She" has a more twisted world view than my first do gooder. Crowning achievements so far was turning Wynne into a blood mage and wrecking the relations between the young elf guy that was in love. Kudos to Bioware for that option I think I finally found out why people manage to play on "hard" (I am still playing on "normal"). The trick seems to be, not to rush straight towards the end of each of the four main quests, but to gather a few levels under your belt first travelling around and doing stuff. Void of the Anvil was soo much easier with a level 15 party than it was when doing the same with levels 8-9 or so. Not to mention crowd control spells which I didn't bring the first time. I managed to lose my party once there because I grew careless.

Too many fed-ex quests. At least there seems to be a lot of crates in the game. If there had only been a level where you had to squish rats...
