  1. "Foreseeing shoals of flying sneakers"... Add my shoes to the list. "The working day is in full swing, and in the evening beer. Because today is Friday."... Nice to see some things are the same all over the world This game looks like a stinker. Gone all Heroes of Might and Magic V on us (which is not meant as a compliment). *Sigh*
  2. After being several times in that fight, somebody here (sorry, forgot who) gave me a hint on how to do it without breaking a sweat. Actually, in my second game, i did it while drinking a mug of coffee at the same time The end fight is still a pain though, although it definitely helped levelling up quite a bit before going there. That particular encounter doesn't seem to "scale". I just finished my second game and when I was to get the epilogue (at what cost etc.) the game decided to crash on me. I've got two saves, one before the fight and one post-game save where I can't see or do anything Off to refight that last fight again I suppose...
  3. Reg: They've bled us white, the bastards. They've taken everything we had, not just from us, from our fathers and from our fathers' fathers. Stan: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers. Reg: Yes. Stan: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers' fathers. Reg: All right, Stan. Don't labour the point. And what have they ever given us in return? Xerxes: The aqueduct. Reg: Oh yeah, yeah they gave us that. Yeah. That's true. Masked Activist: And the sanitation! Stan: Oh yes... sanitation, Reg, you remember what the city used to be like. Reg: All right, I'll grant you that the aqueduct and the sanitation are two things that the Romans have done... Matthias: And the roads... Reg: (sharply) Well yes obviously the roads... the roads go without saying. But apart from the aqueduct, the sanitation and the roads... Another Masked Activist: Irrigation... Other Masked Voices: Medicine... Education... Health... Reg: Yes... all right, fair enough... Activist Near Front: And the wine... Omnes: Oh yes! True! Francis: Yeah. That's something we'd really miss if the Romans left, Reg. Masked Activist at Back: Public baths! Stan: And it's safe to walk in the streets at night now. Francis: Yes, they certainly know how to keep order... (general nodding)... let's face it, they're the only ones who could in a place like this. (more general murmurs of agreement) Reg: All right... all right... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us? Xerxes: Brought peace! Reg: (very angry, he's not having a good meeting at all) What!? Oh... (scornfully) Peace, yes... shut up!
  4. adapt? why is this such a difficult concept to grasp? taks Adapting this thread to the new global temperatures... putting it on ice Seems like we have reached a dead end as far as the exchange of views goes. Is anybody is going to budge from their trenches? I like Walsinghams question though. Might be worth a new thread. Edit: Note to self... need to work out a model that portrays a typical flow of a thread containing political, religious, scientific or philosophical matters.
  5. Maybe they simply decided that the opposition needed spell casters to add a bit of variety to combat, not because it made (or didn't make) sense? Two of the main categories of enemies you run into, humans and darkspawn have very similar line ups. Human opposition have melee fighters, archers, Qunari mercenaries, blood mages etc. Darkspawn have hurlocks, genlocks, ogres and emissaries etc. Sometimes the darkspawn spell casters are replaced by spiders (which makes more sense to me) fulfilling the crowd control role with their webs. Strict adherence to lore may have been a secondary concern to spicing up combat a bit?
  6. I somehow imagine Guard Dog sitting in his home made Fort Knox, armoured bunker, hoarding gold bars and surrounded by angry rotweilers and loaded shotguns >_ It sounds like a wise decision though. If it wasn't so unwieldy and prone to get stolen, I would love to have a growing collection of gold bars stashed away at home. The tax man might complain a bit about the annual brick that gets send to him in gift wrap paper.
  7. Tolkiens orcs are just another kind of elves. Took the loving hand of Melkor to "adjust" them, but hey, sometimes you have to make do with the tools available I like the guy, Together with Sten, he is in my top 3 of favourite DA characters. Not necessarily judged by usefulness. After I finished my first game (human male noble warrior templar/champion), I am 2/3rd the way through as a human female mage healer/blood mage. "She" has a more twisted world view than my first do gooder. Crowning achievements so far was turning Wynne into a blood mage and wrecking the relations between the young elf guy that was in love. Kudos to Bioware for that option I think I finally found out why people manage to play on "hard" (I am still playing on "normal"). The trick seems to be, not to rush straight towards the end of each of the four main quests, but to gather a few levels under your belt first travelling around and doing stuff. Void of the Anvil was soo much easier with a level 15 party than it was when doing the same with levels 8-9 or so. Not to mention crowd control spells which I didn't bring the first time. I managed to lose my party once there because I grew careless.
  8. Too many fed-ex quests. At least there seems to be a lot of crates in the game. If there had only been a level where you had to squish rats...
  9. I think there is generally a lot of good banter in that game Thread is getting a bit long. More dragons here
  10. Start of old thread End of old thread Thou know'st, great son, The end of war's uncertain, but this certain, That, if thou conquer Ferelden, the benefit Which thou shalt thereby reap is such a name Whose repetition will be dogged with curses, Whose chronicle thus writ: 'The man was noble, But with his last attempt he wiped it out, Destroyed his country; and his name remains To th' ensuing age abhorred,' Speak to me son. Thou hast affected the fine strains of honor, To imitate the graces of the gods; To tear with thunder the wide cheeks o' th' air, And yet to change thy sulphur with a bolt That should rive an oak. Orlesian bard William Jaquespierre on the subject of Loghain Mac Tir
  11. AvP the movie was something Uwe Boll could have made...
  12. No, That goes without saying. However, the fact that she . So the inference drawn from that is .
  13. More TOMBS points to be had here
  14. Start of old thread End of old thread Anxious to get home from work and see if there is a cheque in the mail from Samsung. It's refund for my old defect monitor, since they couldn't give me a replacement. Samsung doesn't stock their own monitors It might be a bit hard to get a new one delivered from my usual hardware pusher before the holidays
  15. I like Gromnirs chess better than Biowares chess... more dark and gritty and probably no romance the King/Queen option The joinable as well as the non-joinable npcs were a mixed bunch. Some were good, some less so. Didn't find anyone particularly bad. A few voice actors did sound like they were just reciting text from the script they had been handed. I wonder if I am the only one that found Dagna so irresistibly cheerful that it was hard not to smile at her enthusiams for studying the theory of magic
  16. Ian would've been so proud... I've had my own mage protagonist run up to the rest of the party (engaged in melee combat) and freeze all 3 team member while the enemy went unscathed. Made me think "Ian with a SMG"
  17. Something less "tactical"... Is there any use for the tonnes of junk you end up with in your inventory? I ended up with vases, blank scrolls, private papers etc. that never saw any use. Is it origin specific or should I just sell it all during my second play through (as a mage, my first game was human noble/fighter)? Any special use for or should I keep them in my characters inventory for DA2?
  18. I guess there are pros and cons for having most of Thedas on the map. Sometimes larger is better, but I liked the focus on a select part of the world. I keep imagining Ferelden as what celtic Brittany might have been without being occupied by the French (Orlesians). That is, without magic, darkspawn and other fantasy elements. If other parts if Thedas were given a similar treatment... as the names on the map suggests, it seems losely based on real world cultures. The main "villain" was probably the single most uninteresting aspect of the game though (imnsho). It felt like that not very compelling reason that forces your hand to go to the four planets potential allies and gather the pieces of the star map armies that enables you to go to the final encounter Hence, it's on my wishlist to see them elaborate on the political intrigues, corruption, religious conflicts, cabals of maleficar, assassinations and treason that made up the "fun" parts of the game. Lets have much more of that Not much point in guessing/wishing for particulars of origins/classes/skills etc. without having the context in place first (unless we assume it isn't too different from Ferelden).
  19. At least on paper, the sounds like a good bet for tying the two games together. Would be nice if it was set completely in a different part of the game world though, Orlais, Antiva or whatever. Something completely not figuring darkspawn at all would be nice
  20. The first time a missed penalty made me go out and get drunk The press photo of him standing there with his butt hanging halfway out of his pants was quite appropriate though. They really need to put a big statue of Sepp Piontek somewhere near the current venue (whatsitsname that replaced the old "Parken"?).
  21. I need two mods for this game... one that removes all head wear gfx and one that removes the obnoxious guy with the big yellow "BUY ME!" sign (I know, it's only a big exclamation neon sign but still) over his head in my camp
  22. Well finished the part of the game (human noble warrior) after the landsmeet for the first time. How it ended: As for that last battle... I might try a mage or a rogue next... probably a mage since both Zevran and Lelianna makes for pleasant party members.
  23. Thanks to contributors, well wishers, curious onlookers, etc. but we seem to have left thanksgiving. Maybe we will grow up enough some day to be able to wish each other well without this deep seated need to stomp on other peoples happiness? Yeah, naive, I know. Feel free to create a wiki thread
  24. Bioware Chess... now with both the white and the black queen "romancable"
