Random video game news... Games are the most elevated form of investigation
The closest I think Guild Wars 2 came to 'pay to win' (imho) is a recent introduction to the cash shop where you can buy "hero points". You could argue it's just a time saver, but I do think it's very borderline paying your way out of playing the game to achieve something. Mind you, it's still my favourite game and I play it almost daily. A mix of no subscription and no gear grind per se (once you got best in slot gear, it remains best in slot, even 10 years later). You can take a break for 6 months and you wont lose out (other than practicing your hand/eye coordination) 😛

Anime and Manga - How do you Live? Edition
Finished Heavenly Delusion episode 6... I'll have to watch the whole thing a second time, because only now does a few things from the first couple of episodes start to make sense. A guy from inside the sheltered high tech sanctuary that somehow managed to get "outside" teamed up with another "guy" who came was originally from the outside. I say "guy", because he got attacked and almost completely eaten by a "man eater" monster, leaving only his head and upper chest, everything else got devoured. Last thing we saw was his sister racing to his rescue before fading to black. When he wakes up again, his consciousness is trapped inside his sisters body. He reasons and unknown figure simply called "The Professor" is to blame for his involuntary body swap (which doesn't stop him from getting the hots for himself admiring his female body in the bathroom mirror). He now works as a body guard for those who pay him. In this case, the guy from the sanctuary that managed to get outside. They now both look for a place simply called "heaven" while trying to survive a post apocalyptic society, where might is right (and his gun, which is almost out of ammo now helps giving him the edge in a fight). Also revealed, the newly born inside the sanctuary has no resemblance to human babies, but looks like the offspring of those man eater monsters that now roam the world, eating any and all humans they can corner. Might have something to do with his decision to run away? The story hasn't told so far, leaving some large gaps between the past and the present.... 🤷♂️ Now where is my next episode of Frieren? 😠

Sheesh. Axel F was soooo 80's I just can't it imagine it having any business, showing itself outside of that time period 😖 Edit: Adding the only thing I liked about the original....

Anime and Manga - How do you Live? Edition
While waiting impatiently for Frieren episode 15 to arrive, passing time with watching Heavenly Delusion. A series I started watching a while ago, but work, life, other stuff got int he way, so it got put aside for a while. Now up to episode 4. Liking it so far... a dystopian mystery / adventure story, following (so far) a couple of parallel stories in a world where civilization collapsed a decade ago, following some on the outside and some on the inside of a high tech enclave, seemingly secluded from the outside world.

Frieren episode 14... made me go all soft in a very unmanly way 😖
- Ukraine Conflict - Those who can win a war well can rarely make a good peace and those who could make a good peace would never have won the war

True. I remember having the same argument on this forum many years ago, because I condemned Zionism for being as bad as any other nationalist sentiment based on a divinely given right to exterminate your neighbours and seize their land for the glory of a greater homeland (substitute homeland with any suitable country that believes in the rhetoric of being destined to rule the world). Has nothing to do with ethnicity and everything to do with populist movements.

Not sure what the real definition of brandy is. For myself, I usually think of it as cognac made outside the Cognac region (because the name is protected iirc)

Reached episode 12 of Frieren. Almost binge watching it at times now. That potion I mentioned earlier.... showed up again 😁 No, it's not really an anime with a lot of nudity (none) or even innuendo (very mild).

Finished Episode 4 of Frieren... I think I'm in love ❤️ Before I started, I was worried it might be some sappy drama stuff, but I was wrong. It's awesome. An elf girl just after my head (not sure if she has any plans for that potion that dissolves clothes in future episodes) 😂

I don't really remember every having being worried about China in the 70's and 80's (or even the 90's), the "big evil" being Poland and DDR (East Germany), because those were tangible enemies sharing sea borders with Denmark. Amphibious divisions were poised just on the other side of the water. Nobody really expected them to cross the water though, as Denmark would most likely be completely obliterated and left as a glowing crater, in order to secure the water ways between The Baltic Sea and The North Sea to ensure safe passage of the Soviet Navy between their Baltic bases and the Atlantic. You can only stack so many subs in Murmansk... except the odd stray sub being put on display on Swedish rocks (probably not many here who remember the "Whisky on The Rocks" incident) Kissinger was a follower of realpolitik through and through and I'm personally convinced (in an entirely subjective/opinionated/fact free way), that his overtures to communist China was of no other interest than to create a second front against the Soviet Union. A shame he didn't get the Taiwan issue sorted out at the same time, I'm sure Beijing would have been more open to suggestions at the time when they were still interested in international recognition... the benefits of hindsight.

The TV and Streaming Thread: US Writers/Actors Strike Edition
I wonder if a movie/tv-series adaptation was ever made of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. At least I could have held the fast forward button down 😖 It was painful reading through it, but maybe I was just too young and immature to enjoy it at the time. I was way less proficient at English too (at 15).

Without knowing any further details, my first suspects would be corrupt Ukrainian politicians trying to get rid of an anti-corruption campaigner... too specific a target to be of any interest for the military efforts (unless the target was to poison the whole intelligence service staff and failed in spectacular Russian fashion)

I saw a few trailers and clips on Youtube for Frieren. Looks just up my alley, so I'll probably pick that one up next 👍

Food Thread - Those that eat
I seem to have developed this weird, almost obsession like craving for Danish remoulade... no, I'm not pregnant 😝 A couple of importers offers it for sale in Australia. At a 200-500% markup 😖 So, I did a bit of google search and found what looked like recipes for traditional Danish remoulade. I'll save it on my phone and do a bit of extra looking around next time I get to do some shopping. This is just for a small jar of remoulade for dipping purposes. I want a liter of it! 😎 Just kidding, but I'll buy enough to make plenty of mistakes and hopefully also leaving enough for lasting me a while. I was surprised by the turmeric, as I'm sure some of the industrial stuff I remember, used something like madras curry for colouring it bright yellow (like hi viz vest yellow) Ingredients 3 tbsp mayonnaise, (good quality) 1 tbsp sour cream (about 18%) 1 tbsp carrots, (finely chopped) 1 tbsp pointed cabbage (Murdoc cabbage) (finely chopped) (or other crisp cabbage) 1 tbsp gherkins (finely chopped) 1 tbsp chives (finely chopped) 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp red onions (finely chopped) 1 tsp strong mustard 1 tsp turmeric adjust according to color preference 1/2 tsp sugar 1/2 tsp salt Pepper to taste Instructions Prepare all the vegetables. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients together. Add extra turmeric if you want a stronger color. Add extra salt and pepper to taste. Let your homemade remoulade rest in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving.

Sounds like when I left the region... Should've added to my original post, the exceptions I remember from top of my head are, the Danish minority and their regional party (SSW) in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein is exempt from the 5% rule and in Denmark, the Faeroe Islands and Greenland are guaranteed 2 seats each in the parliament in Copenhagen. Maybe they learned a thing or two from the British?
