  2. 1.- What they were considering is irrelevant. What they did, is not. 2.- All of that still doesn't justify their dropping of the second bomb.
  3. Sure. But your being a mod would add a new... meaning, if you will, to it.
  4. In no particular order: [*]Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers [*]Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game [*]George Orwell's 1984 [*]Valerio Massimo Manfredi's Al
  5. You have just made that up. There is nothing to support it, anywhere. Try the loading screens.
  6. The war was effectively over when the bombs were dropped on Japan. Perhaps there wasn't a written treaty, but it was obvious who were the victors. And there was no warning. The bombs were dropped first, and then the japs surrendered. But even if it was as you said, that doesn't justify dropping the second one. However, I agree with you that it wasn't a form of terrorism. Terrorism is aimed to create and extend fear among the civilian population of whatever is the target. Terror is not a goal in itself, it's but a tool. The ultimate goal of terrorism aim is to have the fear it causes to coerce civilians. Sometimes it aims to coerce people into pressuring their government to accept the demands of the terrorist, and sometimes the terrorist is the state itself, as was the case of the USSR. In this respect, Machiavelli's views could be considered terrorist. Guerrilla tactics on the other hand can't be considered terrorism. The fear it causes among the troops those tactics are being used against is just a byproduct. While terrorism seeks to achieve coercion through fear, guerrilla tactics are aimed to diminish the effectiveness of a regular fighting force by lowering their morale and most importantly, by causing large amounts of attrition without presenting a clear target for retaliation. In the case of Japan, the threat was as great to the State as it was to the people themselves. Japan didn't surrender because their people wanted to surrender (even though after the bombs they probably did), but because they had no way to counter such a devastating weapon, and surrender was the only option that didn't guarantee their destruction.
  7. Nothing personal, but you're just too random to be a good mod. And I'd rather not have the following become truth: " Exactly. Preemptive strikes are nice and all but so far, WOT has been a rather quiet and civil place.
  8. Sidious and Yoda are both lame. And Padm
  9. Heh. Well, It's really no wonder. WOT is much easier to moderate than that spam-jungle that are the K2 boards. I know I would be afraid if I had to go moderate there everytime I logged in.
  10. Yes, limited, as in not mathematically infinite. However, the amount of matter you can draw from a sun to put together little ships (in comparison to the sun itself) is... nearly unlimited. There are instances of stars that are so close to black holes that the black hole leeches gas from it... much faster than the SF could. And the fact that we have been able to see it is a testament to how long can a star last while an external source draws from it. So, yeah, for practical purposes those were unlimited resources. You have not been paying attention to K2 it seems. Revan wasn't trying to crush the Republic, at all. And only a few months passed between Revan being abducted and Malak's demise. While Malak's fleet was probably overrunning the Republic, he still had the Battle Meditation to deal with, and more importantly, his utter lack of competence as a military commander. That last factor alone has turned the tide on more battles than any advancement in weapons technology, ever. If sheer power could have been enough to win the war, Malak wouldn't have been wasting time searching for Bastila like that. And no matter what you may infer, his resources were unlimited. SW is not a science, and the narrator's word is law. This discussion is an example of what happens when that narrator messes up. We have no details about how Revan's capture really happened. It could have been that in the middle of a battle, the Jedi had used a captured Sith vessel to sneak aboard Revan's ship. All of that is pure speculation and it's weight as an argument is next to zero. Again, that's speculation. We don't know if the rakata were the only ones with advanced technology. They may have had to wage war against other technologically advanced races. All we know is that at the apex of their civilization, they controlled a vast empire. For all we know, all that gave them the edge over their enemies was their mastery of the Force. Let's stick to what we do know, people.
  11. What gives? Am I the only non-US citizen in the whole world that would have actually voted for Bush? I mean, it's not like the poor guy is great with words (at least with those he doesn't make up himself), but the alternatives aren't any better. All of this anti-Republican stuff is, in great measure, a matter of hype.
  12. Indeed. If it wasn't for the Old World, America wouldn't have been colonized in the first place. I blame Africa for ultimately giving birth to the human race.
  13. It means he won't allow any new characters that conflict with his views. Hence, no more Jedi wookies. Old ones, he can't suppress. He can't "delete" master Tyvokka, for instance, but don't expect to see someone like him anytime soon.
  14. I don't have the game installed right now, but the scenes of the final battle are quite detailed. Perhaps somebody can post some pics of that.
  15. I believe it's also quite clear that the fleet at the Star Forge was not the entire Sith fleet, only a garrison. As such, why would former republic ships be stationed there in the first place? It'd make more sense if the defense force consisted of ships that can easily be repaired and replaced by the Star Forge if the need should arise. My point exactly. The ships displayed in the Star Forge cutscenes were of the same design as the Leviathan. If those were alien ships, so was the Leviathan. You made some nice arguments for me.
  16. Having Brad Pitt play such an insipid character as that would be a waste of his great talent IMO. Not to mention he's got way too much personality and wouldn't quite fit. I think you forgot to mention you've got one hell of a sense of humor there.
  17. So that's what it was. Damn, I must say I'm a bit disappointed by this. I was hoping they would have made up something new and interesting but no. They had to draw upon the unspeakable lameness of the EU.
  18. Drakron, please stop making stuff up. It was clearly stated that Revan had returned to the Republic commanding a huge armada of strange ships of alien design. I could agree with you if there were other ships composing Malak's fleet, but there weren't. In all the scenes displaying the Star Forge there's always a swarm of those ships around. And the Republic ships shown in KotOR (Endar Spire/Harbinger model) are nothing like the Leviathan. Obviously, Carth's dialogue about the Leviathan and his serving aboard that ship are a screwup on Bio's part. Simple as that.
  19. As the map indicates, the outer rim is the external "ring" of the galaxy. Beyond it, there is nothing. In K1, Canderous tells you a story about how he and some of his pals followed "something" to almost outside the galaxy, and whatever is outside, it mustn't be pretty if even mandalorians consider it "suicide". I care about the levels. K2 is full of glaring failures when it comes to gameplay mechanics. The SW universe doesn't work as the Suikoden or whatever other fictional settings do. In SW, level 20 is the overall max. Palpatine, Yoda, and other SW gods are all level 20, and they don't get any more powerful. But it's not only the contradictions, it's the fact that the d20 system is unprepared to accomodate and balance that kind of powerlaming. But let's not turn this into a discussion about game mechanics. There are a lot of other threads about it.
  20. The short answer: yes, it is a Star Destroyer. The long, complicate answer: uh... yes, it is a Star Destroyer. No. The Ravager and Leviathan are different vessels, from different classes. The Leviathan is supposed to be of rakatan design, manufactured at the Star Forge. The Ravager, being a Republic vessel, couldn't be of alien design. See the differences for yourself.
  21. Right. So now Jedi depend on baubles and miscellaneous thrash to effectively wield the Force. Whatever.
  22. Force Storm and Force Crush are devastating no matter what. But any power whose effectiveness is strongly dependant on a failed save is quite useless. The Stun and Fear trees for instance become a joke when a boma gets a +25 to their will save due to autobalance reasons. The game is completely broken at the higher levels and combat becomes a snorefest (even more).
  23. Exploiting loopholes is a waste of time. You won't be any more powerful than your enemies since they are buffed up as you grow more powerful. Its only visible consequence is that things such as Force powers, grenades and blasters are each time less and less effective at the higher levels.
  24. Not only that. It also means that from now on, no more Jedi wookies, EU or not. And of course no double-bladed lightsaber wielding slugs either.
