  1. Things like dancing and puking is excatly what single player games need. A bustling tavern, an organic living city is so much more important when you're alone in a game. It's a vital part of a great single player rpg.
  2. Free games are often terrible moneysinks. But hey, they're free, no strings attached. The new trend is that you pay 60 dollars for a tripple A title, and then it starts with the microtransactions right away for things that resemble core gameplay. That has to stop. I like DLCS better that feels like it adds something to the game, that wasn't supposed to be in the core game. Like a big, oldschool expansion or cosmetic stuff. Most times cosmetic DLC stuff, and alike tends to cost alot compared to the value for the average consumer Thou. But I get it. It takes time to create. There are alot of steps, and consideration to immersion, lore, etc if it's gonna be any good. Still, from a consumers view, it often feels like a cash grab. I have, along with most others I think, full confidence that Obsidian is aware of the damage such malpractice can cause. I don't think it's likely that we'll see the "Maia Rua, bald eagle" DLC only 4.99$. Buy it today and get the exclusive Serafen dual golden Magnum 44 skin free!
  3. Small expansions are harder to make fairly priced in my experience. I voted for meaty expansion, thou I don't mind more than one. I think The Witcher 3 is the golden standard for DLC content. Some might say that the free DLC program were just a gimmick to keep people interested, since all of that could have been in the original game, but nonetheless, it might just have needed polish (hehe), before the content were on par. And as for the two big DLCs, they were more than faily priced. I don't mind paying more money if I can feel that the content is labour of love.
  4. I think the main solution to the lack of challenge for invested players is the new game + feature. It will allow you to set a number of different challenges for yourself on top of the inherent game difficulty.
  5. Aww, too bad there is no VOD. Thanks for the codex link HooAmEye. Lacking the VOD, that Tomasz Kaczmarek guy on twitter gave us the the whole thing live.
  6. I think he is smoking meth. That makes you cool, and Edér is very cool!
  7. You have made this thread TWICE already. Stop being an obnoxious ass and wait till Obsidian reveals the release date. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/92696-obsidain-can-we-please-have-an-update-on-release-date/ http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/93622-any-word-on-the-release-date-yet/
  8. Dude, this has been announced a long time ago, and continuously been discussed alot. There is even a few others topic about it. Maybe just look around abit before flooding the forum with redundant topics. Here is a link to the discussion topic. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/93142-five-man-party-idk-lets-discuss/
  9. It's because they couldn't afford to animate real shape-shifited animals, so they animated men in animal customes. Give them some slack, it's an indie developer.
  10. They already did this with the Stronghold in PoE1. Changes from 3.0 did not work retroactively, so you had to start a new game to benefit from it. That's nothing alike. The stronghold was a game system that OE deemed lackluster after vanilla game feedback. Hence they expanded on it. Ydwin is a character, they will write within the restrictions of a sidekick. They already gave people a chance to make it a full companion. I don't care if it's Ydwin or any other popular sidekick. Making it a full companion in the expansion instead of introducing a new companion is lazy, cheap, and uninspired.
  11. Someone being "upgraded" to a companion from a sidekick. I really don't like that. It's cheap as hell. Even if they completely remake the character it's still not good. You play through the vanilla game, and pick up Ydwin. Play her dialog, banter, etc. Then you play the expansion and she totally changes mid/post game for no reason. Or you pick her up and she is just more fleshed out. I'd much rather have a new companion than a rework/expanded one. If they want to do stuff with Ydwin, they can wait until a potential third entry to the series.
  12. Why would you call it being dumbed down Firkraag? Do you know it was meant to be darker? Do you have information that proves, that they had a grognard version with Gold Box levels of user friendlyness planned? There are some pretty dark **** in D:OS II. But the overall tone is supposed to be enjoyable for more than just a few basement dwellers. And about the monsters, have you opened up a D&D monster manual lately? Your criticism lacks substance. It is possible for the artstyle not to be your cup of tea, and still not be "dumbed down" for popamole masses.
  13. Well. in retrospect most characters in BG 2 were rather shallow. My wager is that sidekicks in PoE II will be on par with quite a few BG II companions. It has already been mentioned, that sidekicks will have banter, motivation, and if I recall correctly, some smaller questlines. So yeah, that sums up most BG II companions. It won't be any problem. We should just be happy, they go deeper with the actual companions.
  14. Well, I woke up an hour ago, and this is already enough internet for today.
  15. I dont think you can expect any single choice in creation to add "many" unique/meaningful reactions or interactions. There's a balance to those things. It wouldn't be good game design if a single subclass were much more in focus than the rest of the choices you pick. Obviously I can't say for sure, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
  16. Personally I don't like Paradox's DLC policy. But be that as it may, the main problem about the partnership is the job they did on Tyranny. It seemed severely lackluster, and on top of that the whole raise price on steam on PoE before the sale is just so stupid. They really didn't expect that to backfire? What short term greed and utter incompetence. I don't know anything about Versus Evil, but I'm glad Paradox is out of the picture. The only drawback is that Paradox owns the Vampire license, which I really want Obsidian to work with. But overall it feels like a solid move.
  17. I think I speak for most people when I say, that we're grateful that you're writing Eder again. Super rad!
  18. Awesome news guys! This is gonna be really nice for the min-max'ers and creative players out there. Personally I don't often multiclass. I'm too much of a purist. Which is why I'm happy there is no purist multi/sub class, so I won't be compelled to play it. :D I might give Pathfinder another try thou, the last game I played a Pathfinder in was sadly a huge disappointment.
  19. I didn't care that much for D:OS I, but I must admit I'm having a blast with the sequel. The characters are funny, well acted, and interesting enough for you to care. The exploration is fantastic, the animals are great, and the diverse number of solutions to each encounter and quest is brilliant. It really capitalises on its strengths. I imagine PoE II will have abit more serious tone to it, better writing, character progression, and more focus on quest resolution outside combat than D:OS II. Atleast I hope that is the case, since I think that is the strong sides of the first game. But man, what a great time to play rpgs. ^_^
  20. What basis could you possible have to think so? If you haven't even paid enough attention to know there won't be added anymore classes? They have talked alot about expanding the IP, and Josh has mentioned several times, that he doesn't go into detail about all the lore or regions of the world, so others might have creative freedom for the next games, if he ain't gonna be directing them. Regarding the classes I'd really like one more. It might be OCD, but it always irritated me, that there is 11 classes and they look uneven in the character creation screen.
  21. While you make solid points as you always do, I don't think your conclusion is that simple. Both game campaigns were aimed at the niche marked of top down isometric roleplaying fans. While the games are widely different, most people who enjoy one of them will find joy in the other as well. They're not rivals, but they are aiming at the same type of player. PS:T and BG II were very different games as well, but they still attracted alot of the same crowd.
  22. D:OS 2 got a way bigger budget than PoE II.
  23. It will be in the deadfire region of Eora. I don't think it's pirate themed. It's a high fantasy rpg where the enemy is a 200 meter tall god, it's not captain hook. According to all released material, there will be pirates as one of the games factions and will probably play a pretty significant role. I believe you will like the game if you like the IE style games, even if pirates is not your thing.
  24. We had a long beta last time around, which I believe OE said was helpful. But even so, the game is probably still in pre-alpha or alpha if you follow what ever is being released. So beta is probably some time away, but it'll be here sooner or later, don't sweat it. ^_^
