I do not recognize it. The only game that came close to JA for me was Silent Storm.
-
edit: I don't really get it, but I'm going to just drop it.

Look, I'm trying to just focus on the words and the text you are putting up here. It reads to me as insulting and condescending. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

This. This is exactly the kind of derp that makes me cut bait with you. I challenge a random, somehow uncounted (?), statistic and the clown car pulls up and disgorges this. I never even addressed the claims that were actually filed!. I honestly cant fathom how you operate in rl conversations. Look, maybe we just aren't good at understanding each other. For example, I have no idea what derp and cutting bait even means. Even after looking them up, in the context of our conversation it does not make sense to me. I also cannot fathom how you operate in rl conversations, but I am going to assume you do just fine for yourself. Outside of the political thread, we seem to communicate with one another successfully, so at least we have that.

Yes, your experiences MUST be absolutely representative of everyone else in the world. Jeez, you guys sell out so hard just to be snarky that we cant ever really discuss anything. I don't see where the snark has been on my end. You made a snarky comment about sexual assault claims. I asked you if you knew the number of false reports, you responded with snark. I gave you the numbers. You misunderstood 70-90% going unreported as meaning 70-90% of people are assaulted. I was surprised by that. Are we caught up? I just don't get what your message is here. It reads like you are being dismissive of people who come forward with sexual assault claims. That seems like a terrible precedent to take.

Adult answer? I really don't get where you are coming from on this.
-
Is this a bit? I hope this is a bit. What percentage of these accusations do you think are false? I would say 99,9999999% That's what makes you special.
-
There are studies on this though, you don't have to guess. 2-6% seems to be the answer. Unreported cases are estimated at around to be around 70-90%, depending on the type. https://theconversation.com/heres-the-truth-about-false-accusations-of-sexual-violence-88049 So yeah, we aren't exactly on the level with this stuff.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - BATTLE ROYALE
Hurlshort replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
Huh. I don't really know how I feel about this. I worship at the altar of Ian Currie and Sir-Tech, so I'm always going to be skeptical. I am not against a reboot with a new art style. Honestly it will come down to the characters and the combat, so who knows? It has better backing than the last couple attempts with THQ Nordic. I am loving the rebirth of the genre though. -
What percentage of these accusations do you think are false? Every study I've seen (we cover this stuff every year in education, I just did my mandated reporter class) indicates that abuse is extremely underreported. On a related note, we watched an interesting video about how empathy drives innovation. Here is an article about it: https://bigthink.com/think-tank/is-innovation-a-result-of-emotional-skills-or-math-and-science-training

Aw, this thread makes me miss Woldan. I hope he's doing well. Yeah, we all work out here. Most people post about it in What you did today. Diets are dumb, just establish good nutritional habits that are sustainable over the long term.

Well if you enjoyed Hard West, which was a bit of an unpolished gem, odds are good you will like the new title. -

Yep, hard to fault the game for objectifying the ladies when they go even more over the top with the boys. -

They can, but their opportunities are limited by felony convictions. CalFire has a reputation for hiring them. As I said, you can find a number of success stories. We are in desperate need of prison reform in the US, but this type of program seems to be the right way to rehabilitate. The problem is both in the EMT licensing, which is restricted, and the City and Municipal departments not being willing to hire them. I don't really get the licensing restriction. They should be able to take the test. But I can't really argue with the city and municipalities not hiring them. Those jobs are already in high demand. They are looking to filter out any possible risky behaviors, and a felony conviction is going to be a pretty big red flag. https://www.mercurynews.com/2017/11/21/opinion-a-skilled-cal-fire-firefighter-as-an-inmate-shes-barred-from-career-now-that-shes-free/ -

Not sure why you would consider it otherwise. They are free to sit in a cell and serve out the sentence that way. Also you get 3 days of time served for every 1 say of service, so you can cut your sentence down considerably. I have no problem with them getting a better wage, but lets remember that they are getting free training, food, and shelter for their service. Former inmates and fire chiefs who have worked with the crews all rave about the program. -

CalFire actually hires a lot of those former prison firefighters, so that article is pretty loose with the facts. They may not be getting a real wage for the work, but they are given valuable training and get to spend part of their sentence being treated like a hero instead of a prisoner. Seems like a pretty good deal, it is voluntary. -

Regrets - games/console/hardware you have sold
Hurlshort replied to Katphood's topic in Computer and Console
My Fallout 3 CE came with a lunchbox that my daughter used for years, and a pip-boy that still sits on my desk at work. It was an extra $10, so worth it. Saint's Row 3 came with a lockbox that I used when I ran the school snack shack, so that was also worth it. The problem is digital goods are dumb, and publishers decided they could raise the prices of CE's by offering a bunch of dumb digital content instead of decent physical goods, so today's CE's are lame and more expensive. -

Well, if you'll pardon the euphemism, I have no skin in the game. It's not some political correctness or progressive agenda, it just seems polite to refer to people the way they wanted to be referred to. -

Sounds like there is a lot of debate as to whether the origin of the word was from snow shoes or raw meat eating. Regardless, words do change over time, etymology is a thing. I'd imagine the respectful to do is to use tribal names, much like with Native Americans. Although I do wonder if the word Eskimo is still salvageable. For example, it is acceptable to call things Oriental, but referring to people from Asia in such a manner is offensive. The respectful move there is to refer to people by their country or region. That way we can keep Eskimo kisses. Hmm, that does look a bit offensive. -

Well here is a link to my benefits. I'm not sure it is as easy to read as you are implying. https://www11.anthem.com/provider/noapplication/f0/s0/t0/pw_g319029.pdf This is an expensive group plan that costs me $882 a month to cover my family, and my employer contributes another $2000. With that I still have the possibility of these out of pocket expenses: What is the out-of pocket limit for this plan? For participating Providers: $3,500/individual or $7,000/family For non-participating Providers: $7,000/individual or $14,000/family The out-of-pocket limit is the most you could pay in a year for covered services. If you have other family members in this plan, they have to meet their own out-of-pocket limits until the overall family out-of-pocket limit has been met. What is not included in the out-of-pocket limit? Premiums, deductibles, copays, Balance-Billing charges, and Health Care this plan doesn't cover (including pharmacy, dental and vision benefits). Even though you pay these expenses, they don’t count toward the out-of-pocket limit.

Well, looks like there are new healthcare options. You can now pay less for less coverage, which sounds real nice, until you realize you are basically offering poor people less health coverage than wealthy people. I read somewhere that insurance companies are excited about this new option. Does everyone understand that, as a consumer, insurance companies do not serve your interests? It is their job to maximize profits first. Serving customers is a secondary function. https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/04/politics/short-term-health-plans/index.html
