  1. So 3 bases is the optimal number then? I had 4 by the time I quit, 1 in construction, 3 operational as interceptor bases but only one from which to launch ground teams. I've noticed that radar installations are obviously artificially overpriced, at a whopping $250k apiece, I guess to prevent you from just setting up a network of listening posts and force you to scout with interceptors. Unchecked terror sprees really do a number on funding, which is great. However, successfully shooting down UFOs and recovering stuff rarely makes up for that. Numbers may change down the road though, as my biggest catches so far are just corvettes. I take it that carriers and battleships are sufficiently profitable to make me less sensitive to council tantrums? 3 is optimal for the first year and then you'll get enough cash to build 1 or 2 pure interceptor bases (without any installations) as you begin to prioritize the initial bases into construction, research and one that has the main grounds team (and is usally ½ research and ½ constructions for the smaller and more immediate projects) The first 3 bases should preferable be Egypt, around Cuba and Philippines to cover as much as possible. Now I use an extra radar when income warrants it, but some players prefer to sink money into other projects. Then I go with 2 interceptor bases, one in south/east south America and one in Alaska - to get those ****ers who hide around the poles - and to catch those who go towards South Africa and other hard to reach places. . When you have money (should be after a year or so) Then it's just trying to keep up with the aliens who will be throwing bigger and bigger ships at you. Of coures that just my strategy and mainly used as a sort of easy win one, when you get better and can predict the kind of mission they throw in response to your meddling, you can place bases a lot more strategically. It can pay off to avoid some UFOs as their mission can create other missions that are more profitable etc etc. There are some great mods too - and ones that help a lot with funding issues (too high costs and too low etc) and makes the game a lot more realistic and fun.
  2. You need to place your bases so that you can cover most of the with 3 of them and use planes to scout. Otherwise the ufos do terror missions out of your range.
  3. Reddit hates happiness.
  4. yeah, the big projects that take a dozen guys and thousands of hours and actually add something cool like the kotor 2 restoration or Third Age.. Sure, but this is horse armour for 8$ and a shameless money grab. Glad to see the outrage and I hope it gets canned - but also great to open discussions on proper rewards for modders and how that should be handled.
  5. And so we turn to GOG, hopefully it'll be at least 6 years until they succumb to the dark side.
  6. Its disgusting imho, I would gladly support donations etc, but this will stiffle the open source and freedom of the modding community. Reallh hate it and very dissapointed in this development.
  7. Man, you must kill all of us I think. I shot your head off in my first playthrough, thought you were a random gangbanger
  8. Sigh, my friends are massive Killing Floor fans... I guess I better get it
  9. Oh yes, much better than Xcom - but for all of Xcoms faults it's a very polished and likeable game, something Firaxis does very well. They've become a little too arcady for my taste, but that seems to be their goal. Edit: playing Endless Legend - Amplitude are pretty good at making these games.
  10. Yeah I checked it off first thing I did when I saw it in options - along with a multitude of auto-options.
  11. You don't need to move them, the game automatically filters saves under character names. So it's easy to keep track of several playthroughs.
  12. I love it as it is to be honest - one of the most annoying things in fantasy games is how utterly crazy you end up looking. I often prefer the simple look of the starter armors/weapons and the fact that I can enchant them to be as crazy as late game spiky-doom armour is great. Nothing better than walking in, looking completely regularly and unimposing and then dropping the a-bomb spells in their unsuspecting faces. Doesn't work quite as well if you look like Sauron.
  13. Saw the fampyr reception and cast the protection from domination and charm as soon as the fight started - which saved me from the initial clusterf*** of loosing half your guys. Then I tried to pull back my caster/supports and let my melee guys engage as many as possible. 2 fampyrs broke through which my second line had to deal with (and did) and then it was just a slug from there. Trying to keep ahead with protections and trying to wear them down slowly with spells etc. It worked on my second try.
  14. I can't at least, if I have all the materiel and the level, but not enough unused slots available - it will simply state that there isn't enough room. I'll try to see if I can make a screenshot. edit: all right here we are As you can see I should be able to upgrade to exceptional, since it's only 2 slots more than Fine and that's available - but I can't cause you need all 4. It's a small annoyance however imo and now that I know it just means I have to plan a little better. But it's somewhat stupid that if I hadn't given it Shocking Lash or Slaying Vessel first, I could've upgraded it fully to 12/12
  15. That's not as bad as the fact that you can't place an enchantment unless there's the exact room for it (ie if it cost 6, 6 unused slots must be present). So if it's 10/12 and at Fine quality, there should be room to make it excellent as that would bring it up to 12/12, but you can't cause you need 6 unused slots.. That being said, I did "ruin" a few weapons like that. But you always find better ones later anyway, so I just considered it a minor nuisance.
  16. I see no problem here then - Putin is living in a fantasy world .. I think these shops are a perfect reflection of his personality.
  17. He was kinda all over the place, as I was learning the mechanics - but turned out to be pretty effective in the end (passed a lot of checks and could hold his own), especially in animal form - heavy focus on frost damage, that wolf tore through anything that didn't have 20+ resistance to frost.
  18. And that's really the crux of the issue - we've become so used to being able to do everything and see everything that when we are presented with a limitation it's so "out of character" of a game that it pisses people off. Interesting actually. Of course this is against the normal tropes, but then Obsidian has always tried to do that - and as evident, to greater or lesser success.
  19. I have a Paladin on the front line and she's doing just fine, dealing damage and taking hits - they are a bit different from the IE times though, they are more of a hybrid class, sacrificing usability for flexibility - so they are worse than a straight fighters or priest, because they are a mix between. You can take them in 2 directions though if I recall correct leveling up - self buff or group buff. I think a self buff Paladin can be quite the heavy hitter.
  20. ^ Excellent point, none of the other factions would dare openly associate themselves with someone like you, after you clearly tried to arm one of the contenders - even agreeing to.. The Dozen's leader openly admits afterwards that he tipped off the patrol, so the Knights know that you went for the weapons. **** move, but that clearly marks you as playing favorites in a very hostile political atmosphere, even if your hand was being tipped for you. That decision quite literally helped kill people on all sides, as you are throwing tinder into the fire.
  21. I've found that I can function normally for about 2 weeks on 4 hours of sleep, but I work best with ~6-7.. In my early to mid twenties I needed about 10 though, so I guess it's an age thing.
  22. Let's at least pretend to be civil shall we, or do I really need to put half of you on moderated review?
  23. Are we so adverse to thinking for ourselves, that we need to be spoon fed and outlined the consequences of choices? What happened with just rolling with it, your character made a blunder... why does that ruin your game experience? :shrugs: Of course I understand that you guys are angry with the fact that you feel cheated by the game (which is a ****ty feeling), I just don't see why you feel that way.
  24. You can switch them out at inns - I have a rouge hireling I use when the story NPCs aren't up to the task and they are permanent. But all in all you can level up the NPCs in a way so you don't need hirelings, it's just easier to make a specialized one.
