"But it was made for us."
Lord Gorchnik replied to Bryy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Absolutely zero. If we're going just from a "Kickstarter" point of view, even the website itself states do not back a project unless you are 110% behind the "vision" that the creators are trying to show you. The little grievances and nuances that arise from a project coming to fruition should be of no consequence. I honestly don't understand the complaints. It's fine to have strong objective preferences about certain gameplay design and aesthetics, but calling a developer out because a certain design decision doesn't rub you the right way is silly.- 340 replies

Update #77: Art in Alpha
Lord Gorchnik replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Just wow. Great stuff here. Love the look of that full suit of plate mail armor. The coastline looks like a cool place to settle down with a rod and go fishing. Thanks everyone for sharing!- 338 replies

While reading up on the wiki I noticed that one of the main caveat's of expert mode was the ability to turn off seeing what kind of personality traits you would be exhibiting with certain answers and coversation styles. While most of them you can probably figure out without too much trouble, I always like it when the answers aren't 100% crystal clear which path is which.

Oh I've played plenty don't you worry dear. Me too, but I'm also pretty tired of companies not-making isometric cRPGs. PoE is pretty encouraging when it comes to a lot of things we're tired of. Indeed. I for one am very intrigued to see this reputation system in full swing. Hopefully it really hammers home the multitude of ideas and thoughts our characters can have when dealing with certain situations.

Call me crazy but I actually want this to be a thing. Maybe not exactly like that but I would love to see a roaming group that just picks up random crap that has been lying around in the world that you left sitting there and then if you need it they will be MORE than happy to sell it to you at a 20% markup

I for one am just tired of the standard: Good response Neutral reponse Evil response There is never any in-between. I understand the developers can't imagine every single response their thousands of players could come up with in similar situations, but to hammer home the point I booted up an old save in Neverwinter Nights right before I turned in a quest and the reponses paraphrased (and I reloaded and chose them all) boiled down to this: 1) It was no trouble at all. And I don't need a reward. Just doing my duty to the people. Guaranteed alignment shift towards good and standard 500gp reward 2) I don't care, just doing what I want. I think this one upsets me the most as the "neutral" responses always seem to lean towards the sarchastic, "I don't give a **** tone" 3) Thanks for the reward, now you die as well! Guaranteed alignment shift towards evil. I mean literally, 95% of the quests in that game had those for the responses to when you finished a quest. Holy hell there is more to "character" then that. I think this is the one thing I am most scared about with Project Eternity. I really do not want these cookie cutter responses in the game.

The best storytelling...

Given how young I was at the time I can't remember the name of the computer game but I had trouble at a certain point. I remember a boss creature being a troll and of course trolls need either fire or acid to permanently kill them. Of which neither I had. Because i didn't know this lore, and the game didn't give me a way to find out via in game resources, text, NPC conversation, etc, I could never beat it. Then I remember years later playing BG1 and encountering trolls and remember that there were multiple references of acid and fire and how effective it was against them. I have long since forgotten the name of that PC game and probably won't ever remember, but sometimes I wish I could find it again and see if there were fire and/or acid items in the game to use.

He has really hit a nail here as I find myself continously now-a-days just mashing "X" or enter on my controller/keyboard to get through the dialogue because it's just so drull. I love me some jRPGs but my God you can tell sometimes that the localizers had to be sitting there thinking, "what were the original writers thinking" as they translate it.

I think Josh's explanation is par for the course given the time, budget, and resource allocation they have to work with. Remember.......there's always the "inevitable" expansion right? And whose to say what the modding community could do? If modding is even supported, I can't remember if that was ever discussed during the KS campaign.

Thoughts on damage types
Lord Gorchnik replied to ItinerantNomad's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Indeed. A very old MMO had elemental resistances based on armor type. Those wearing cloth got devastated by fire attacks. Made for a slightly interesting system, but ultimately abused becuase everyone knew what your primary weakness was. -
The Case for Romance.
Lord Gorchnik replied to NanoPaladin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think the biggest issue I have with romance in games is that the romance is scripted and written by someone for your character, this is evident in almost all jRPGs with a love story. However, in the future I would certainly like to see a game take on the challenge of letting you flesh out your own romantic escapades. Whether you decide to settle at home and be a family-man, or tag-team with your partner and go on heroic escapades while falling in love over the journey together is all up for you to decide how it plays out. -
I dunno I am undecided. I like the fact that if I insult Boo, (but who would?) Minsc will be displeased with me, or maybe even refuse to travel along with me. I also want to see enemies who react to me in a different way other than gratuitous violence and wanton destruction. But at the same time I don't want the system to limit me to accessibility and rewards/quests in the game just because I don't agree that Beldin, Silk, and Belgarath should go out and get plastered tonight.
