Lord Gorchnik replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)

Multiple currencies
Lord Gorchnik replied to Sheikh's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Call me crazy but I am just now noticing that besides the Eniachs, the Oble has the "highest" copper value in the game. I find it highly appropriate coming from the Vailian Republics. It just seems to me they would have the most "powerful" currency if true economics were in play here. -

This update was terrible. Why was the ship not rotting after sitting in that water for an indefinite period of time? Why did the waves look like smoke? Why could i hear seagulls but not see any on screen? Why does the sand not blow and move around? Why are there no children playing in that rubble? #Firstworldproblems /facetious

It doesn't, but it guarantees the potential for a better game. Basically, so long as the given state of a game needs improvement (or could benefit greatly from improvement), more time allows for that improvement, whereas, no-delay guarantees that the game remains as-is and gets released. I agree that people shouldn't see it as a guarantee, but that's also why most people generally say things like "IF you need more time, by all means, take the time." If time constraint is an issue, and resources allow, I'd much rather them take an extra 2 months than simply worry about getting the game out "on-time." It's conditional, not inherently absolute. Blasphemy! I demand buggy products that require multiple patches downloaded via my 28.8 modem so I can relive the "glory days" of 1995.

But that's because, as we all know, European knights had no skill whatsoever, and just flailed around like idiots...a thousand years of hurting each other and nobody in Europe managed to devise an effective way to do so! But.....But.....But 4000 years of China! Oh wait, 2000 of it was spent being surrounded by a wall.

Why are you guys going to E3?
Lord Gorchnik replied to Halsy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
E3 is like SDCC at this point for anyone in the industry: a necessary evil. But you're right, GDC is the place for anyone, especially newbies, to be. For one, there are actual panels. For two, the panels are extremely, extremely interesting. Even new indie companies can apply for a post-mordem panel and get it. For three, exhibitors get ten free passes to the show floor that are upgradable. For four, it's open to the public. Now, GDC is far more expensive than E3, with the least expensive pass being $600-$900, and the most expensive being $1900+. All too true. However, I will state that 8-9 years ago when I was in my final years of college and before starting my studio I went on a "student" pass and I was still given access to almost everything except the exclusive developer round-table discussions. This means I still got to go behind the scenes on the show-floor, go watch "closed door" presentations, etc because at the end of the day, it is the developers themselves who choose who they want to show their product/services too. In short, don't be a jerk, network well, reap rewards. You can't put a price on anything if it helps you acheive/land that job you always wanted to do and I don't regret any of the money I've spent on my 6 times going to that Conference. E3 on the other hand..... -

Why are you guys going to E3?
Lord Gorchnik replied to Halsy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The vast majority of gamers think E3 is a convention like SDCC or Emerald City. They watch IGN coverage from their computers, where so little of the show is actually shown, that they get the impression the place is far more exciting than it actually is. They watch the press conferences streaming and think that those games are actually playable on the floor. And the ones that are actually playable are completely on rails. The pressers are incredibly boring, stiff, and snooze inducing. I got in as a guest of EA/BioWare last year, and for the previous two years before that as a journalist, and the pressers are ridiculous. Even this year, E3 has set up new measures to keep those out that are not allowed in. NeoGAF got denied. My friends geek site got denied. If you don't have the number of visitors they want, you don't get in. And if you really want to get in? The tickets for the public start at $599. And honestly? People shouldn't want to go to E3. It's boring. The average gamer would balk at how much a business event it actually is. Every year, the outer lunch hall is packed with people in three piece suits and briefcases filled with graphs. I cannot upvote this more so I will just leave it as it is. E3 is beyond boring and anyone who wants to work in, at, or have anything to do with the gaming industry should be going to GDC instead. -

I actually really like this. I didn't back high enough to make one but if I did it would be along the lines of the tombstone you could read in the graveyard of QFGIV "Michael Med, bumped his head, In another mans bed, now he's dead. .......RIP" All read by John Rhys-Davies no less- 110 replies

Nice post. Don't feel bad posting your thoughts, people here just like to act tough. I for one played the game and truth be told while the tutorials were not obstrusive or annoying, I still felt that they should have been able to be disabled or not. If you didn't read them you just had this big "NEW" text flashing next to your journal.

Content or Quality?
Lord Gorchnik replied to Namutree's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If a side quest isn't fun, we will cut it. If a side quest is generally fun but can't have time allocated to improving it, we will probably keep it. Size of the world and quantity of quests are important elements of the IE games. Our quests don't all have to be masterpieces to be included, but they do have to be enjoyable on their own. Where do we go to get the "fetch 5 bear skins" quest? -
I'm honestly not even certain it would even matter if someone were proved right, here. Some of these arguments seem more about the journey than the destination. 8P And given we haven't even seen the in-game action on a finalized beta build yet means we can just keep getting more and more excited for it!

Yeah not so sure about a one-man run. Sounds interesting, but I think I might try a 2 man party first. Who knows. Assuming this game sells 6.9 million copies then when the inevitable expansion/sequel comes we might see some expanded gameplay ideas. Personally I just can't wait to get my hands on this version.

Portraits
Lord Gorchnik replied to Sheikh's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Polina looks like some dead-serious-tough chick ! Typical stuck-up paladin material, 1 dose of psychological issues, obsessed with some higher purpose-- but of course susceptible to soften & open up to the protagonist ! I hope I am wrong 'cause my thoughts on her bore me before even meeting her ..! Hear! hear! But since we actually don't have the game yet we will just have to wait and see. -
How does PoE innovate?
Lord Gorchnik replied to Zeckul's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
No you. Innovative or not I am just cautiously optimistic about everything until we actually get a working and stable feature to test out. Until then just chill.....ax?
