However it fails because of weakness of humanity I would say it fails because a ruling elite has to decide, with complete authority, what is best for everyone else. The fact that such supposedly benevolent systems of government have proven themselves to be unteable is a testament to the strength of human nature, not it's failings.

Isen't China more a look at the past of Capitalism, the kind of unregulated marketplace with many human victims. Babies who die of malnutrition because baby milk subsitutite is an unlicenced copy of a name brand.

It's the 'american syndrome'. Over here you can actually get a good hour or more of quality tv with no commercial breaks from a TV show, think inspector Morse. Thats just not possible for the american market. everything moves too fast and takes shortcuts, including the story. If the show had time to breathe ,episodism, if there is such a word, would not be a bad thing. I much prefer two parters and one offs to plowing straight ahead 200 episodes in a row. If you don't take time to close chapters you wind up with LOST, with a huge ball and chain of a plotline and no one having any clear idea of what the show is about.

Please, can I have my Aliens over here and my Predators over there, and no more 'new and impoved' versions of the Alien queen.

Is this really that different than the Muhammad drawings?
Gorgon replied to kumquatq3's topic in Way Off-Topic
No it's not the same as the Mohammed cartoons, with those several countries imposed trade sanctions and there were riots and embassies burned, all because of what one newspaper had decided to print. You know how they say that freedom of speech is not a licence to insult and provoke, well thats baloney, if you cut through all the rethoric and have to define freedom of speech, thats exactly what it is, and thank god there are still artists who still use it and haven't been entirely cowered by fear of lawsuits. As for the victims of the provocations, well, they just need to grow thicker skin and stop taking themselves so seriously. -
Die Hard is a classic, Die Hard 2 was somewhat acceptable as a seqeul, Die Hard 3 was just silly, that whole running around with Samuel Jackson chasing bombs just didn't work, and even Jeremy Irons managed to come off as unimpressive as a criminal mastermind. This, I don't know, I guess it depends if they can balance the humor anction and suspense. A car chase with a fighterplane seems a litte retareded though.

Whats the moral of the story anyway, exterminate the weak ? Fashist babykillers for teh win.

Seems to me it was squarely aimed at getting back the Iranian diplomatic mission that was arrested on suspicion of espionage. further, the fact that the prisoners are getting the movie star treatment seems a testament to the insincerity of the charges. If these were really infiltrators they would be interogated rather more vigorously.

I saw that yesterday as well, pretty much what I expected, full of hyperbole and orientalism set to 500%, and like Sin City, full of lines that are near impossible to deliver without sounding foolish. Awesome graphics, awesome battles.

Iran is a strange amalgam of zealot leftovers from the revolution who actively seek confrontation, albeit perhaps not a military one, and moderates who have a better understanding of international diplomacy and no wish to see sanctions.

Looks like good clean fun to me. Not going to ridicule them anymore than they have already done to themsleves, sorry.

So whats her special destuny if she is a clone and not starbuck, to die rather uneventfully and be replaced by a replicant ? That hardly seems grand emough.
-
Unfortunately Starbuck is tied into the annying ball-and-chain plotline to do with the pithian propecy. I just hope they don't spend too much time with that and in doing so lose sight of the fact that it is well... utterly lame.

Well, she is back and confirmed for season 4, how ?, does it matter, Arthur Conan Doyle killed off both Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriaty and they were none worse for the wear in the next installment. This should teach us that nothing is permanent if the character is too popular, see Superman.

uh, as far as i understand it, the EU itself cannot go to war anyway as it is primarily an economic agreement, right? is the EU leadership elected by the people, or appointed by the states? there was supposed to be a common EU defence policy and an EU rapid reaction force, but it hasen't happened yet. It was mostly a German and French wet dream, the rest aren't that interested. The EU comission is is selected by governments, only the EU parliament is elected by the people. The comission has more hands on power in the day to day leadership of the EU. So, it's hardly a democracy. The parliament though can fire the comission through a vote of no confidence, and has done so in the past during the corruption scandals.

Nothing drastic is gonna happen, Blair can't start a war just before he's out the door,

My only gripe is that they used a sissy version of All along the watchtower instead of Hendrix's.

Well, how long exactly would it take for radio waves to travel several galaxies ? I think earth is a little further gone than the 60s.

The Itunes purchases are more value per viewer than TV add $. Battlestar has developed a following of people for whom this is an easier way of following the show than TV, this is not refelected in the ratings. Sci Fi is obviously quite interested in learnig how to turn this into real revenue growth. If they could just make sure that the show airs simultaneously on Itunes and TV they could cut down on the freebe downloaders as well. As for the show itself, it suffers from the same syndrome that all shows do after several seasons, the plot has become a ball-and-chain, and new viewers don't know whats going on. The main plot is also tied into the length of the show itself, I mean, whats left to do after they find earth and defeat the cylons. No wonder they are stalling.
