  1. You don't have to whine about facts that you don't like. Sawyer does not like the Baldur's Gate series for some reason, yet he is the lead designer of the spiritual successor. How can you be the lead designer of a spiritual successor to a series of games that you hate? How can you capture the spirit of game that you hate? If I was lead designer I would remove and change everything that I do not like, which be quite substantial in a game that I dislike. I am pointing this out, because I do not understand. Will P:E be totally different than Baldur's Gate because of this? I doubt I will ever get an official response that states otherwise, so yes, that is probably how it will be. Which games has he developed after IWD2? Fallout: New Vegas, that's it. He hardly did any work on NWN2. Wow, that really says a lot more than his hate for Baldur's Gate. lol
  2. Seems weird to me that Josh Sawyer might dislike (or hate) Baldur's Gate 2 but like (or love) Baldur's Gate 1. But that is just me, BG2 is just defintely the better game in my opinion. It does kind of worry me though, seeing that Josh Sawyer is the lead designer. But we have the other producers too I guess... I just hope that Josh doesn't give them the smackdown because he is the lead designer and dislikes BG2.
  3. Well, they are quite similar. BG2 + ToB is just generally regarded as being even better than BG1. But oh well. Wut eva. The issues he has with BGII mostly apply to it alone Also be aware that that post is more than 7 years old now. So 7 years later Josh Sawyer has suddenly decided that he likes the Baldur's Gate series after all those years of hate? Well, lets hope so. He is the lead designer of the spiritual successor after all. And he should be making a game that we want and not one that he wants.

  5. The update is mostly just a summary of known info, but thanks anyway. Seeing that the lead designer Josh Sawyer does not like Baldur's Gate, and is borrowing many mechanics from Darklands, I took the time to fix the update. You're welcome.
  6. It would make sense. If anybody has ever been out in the open outside of a city, then they will see how dark it can actually get. It gets very, very dark. Especially on a new moon. Somebody could hide in the bushes 1 meter in front of you and you would not even be able to see him. If this is good for a game though is another question.
  7. I'm pretty sure that's a coding/world-building term, and not a marketing term. "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3! Now with 50% more dynamic objects! 8D" doesn't have much of a ring to it. Either you have no idea what marketing actually is (it can be used in more than one type of context) or you a fanboy flame troll. ^^ There are 2D and 3D dynamic objects in that scene. The 2D objects can't cast dynamic shadows, the 3D objects can.
  8. I'm pretty sure that's a coding/world-building term, and not a marketing term. Yeah, the others being static objects. Jeez, what's with all these whiners? Did they not get their special treat today? Then tell me why some of the dynamic objects (trees, bushes) can't cast shadows? They move, i.e. they are dynamic. Because they are 2D bitmaps, that is why. Only the 3D dynamic objects (character models, etc.) can cast dynamic shadows, the 2D dyanmic objects can't. The 3D static objects can also cast dynamic shadows, the 2D static objects can't. So, use your head (if you possess this ability) or read up on the subject before you start "flame whining" next time.
  9. Dynamic objects? Cut it with the marketing terms, you mean the 3D models, i.e. only the 3D models can cast dynamic shadows. Put some more work into the 2D animations (trees, bushes) by adding a 3D overlay or something. Then they can cast dynamic shadows too. The trees/bushes look pretty good, but the animations could be better. The oscillating and rapid "twitching" looks rather unnatural, especially since it is not uniform. i.e. when there is a gust of wind more than one bush/tree should twitch and it should happen uniformly. Also the bushes could be better. Only the middle part of the bush is dynamic, the rest (painted on the background) is static, which looks quite strange.
  10. The dynamic lighting of the flying object was rather good. However it was not shown how the trees, bushes and some other objects interact with this light source. The shadows seem to be painted onto the 2D background because dynamic shadows are sadly not supported. This also probably means that shadows from trees and other objects can not be cast onto the 3D character models and other moving objects.
  11. I don't like this either. There is absolutely no dynamic shadowing. None. Zero. Zilch. The shadows from trees, bushes, etc. never move.
  12. It is mapped, there is a 3D layer (without textures) on top of the 2D layer. The dynamic lighting is a 3D effect. Obsidian pulled it off very nicely.
  13. Fantastic Obsidian! The prerendered background supplemented with 3D characters and effects looks great! 2D rendered light. hehehe It's a 3D effect dude.
  14. Check the computer in the bail bonds building in Santa Monica. His name is mentioned there (with some other developers) as a gag.
  15. Yes, it was certainly annoying. In Baldur's Gate 2 this was fixed by adding a potion case (and other goodies). The same for other items as well. It was a great reward and I loved building my inventory with fantastic items like this.
  16. I completely agree with the OP. A reputation system should be included instead of completely removing "Cause and Effect" and "Choice and Consequence" and in turn making practically any choice you make have the same "generic" outcome. A reputation system would not discourage certain behavior, but encourage the player to continue with his prefered playstyle and have the world around him react to this playstyle. This prefered playstyle should also be rewarded accordingly.
  17. No, not really. The game is going to be designed differently if the inventory space is limited than if it was unlimited. True, albeit obvious. Even though it is a rather "ugly" mechanic. "Choice and Consequence" should also appy to the inventory system in my opinion. I personally would certainly also miss the ability to build my characters inventory by finding items that allow me to carry more.
  18. Project Eternity is supposed to be a story game. In a story game, my characters kill NPCs for "political reasons". That monster is chained up and can't follow you if you avoid him? Stealth. Those guards, if left behind you, could join forces in a pincer move with the next set of guards you encounter? Kill them so that you haven't left yourself vulnerable. That creature (I hesitate to call murders people) murders innocent people or will go on to kill your countrymen/friends/babies/whatever if avoided? Kill him! Include consequences in the game for using stealth in some situations. The problem, of course, is then you need to give the players clues as if consequences might exist or not in each situation. Another way to look at it, stealth is always contains a reasonably small risk that not killing the person/monster the first time you had the chance will make a later situation harder than it had to be. Choice and Consequence, one of the pillars of a great RPG.
  19. Like I said, you just like to write 10 paragraphs of BS and whine instead of actually discussing. Like I said, it is interesting to watch you try to squirm your way out after writing so many ridiculous posts. I rest my case. BTW, I didn't read you rage post.
  20. Yeah, your comprenhension skills are truly absolutely abysmal. But it is interesting to watch you try to squirm your way out after writing so many ridiculous posts.
  21. We already have that, Zelda is a good example. Zelda has progession but it is not an RPG, it is an ARPG (Action RPG). RPGs have XP points or a very similar mechanic.
  22. The only one with terrible comprehension skills is you. Not to mention that you have no idea what an RPG is, or actually like what distuinguishes an RPG. And now that you have run out of ridiculous arguments you have resorted to pure taunting. lol. How lame. Well, at least you seem to have realised that you have no idea what you are talking about and have stopped writing endless posts full of utter BS.
  23. Please. Explain why you hated receiving xp when you engaged in combat.
  24. More from the whining and taunting troll I see. You don't even respond to what I write, you just pull nonsense out of your ass. I write 3 sentences and state how you have no idea what you are talking about and you just write 5 paragraphs full of taunts/insults and how awesome Skyrim is. hehe. Not to mention that your comprehension skill is absolutely abysmal. Look, I know this is really, really hard for you to understand, but a RPG has XP (in some type of form). Even in Skyrim you have XP (learning by doing). Anything else and it is not an RPG. I am trying to make this clear to you but you refuse or can't seem to understand. I am really starting to think that the latter is actually the case. And yes, although Skyrim is a mediocre game, it is (probably) the most dumbed down and worst RPG ever made... So I am really not surprised that you think it is an awesome "RPG".
