  1. The term "Challenge rating" is 3rd Edition terminology. This terminology most certainly has NOT been around since the beginning, which can (arduously) be verified just by pulling out the Player's Handbooks and Dungeon Master's Guides and reading them. If the party had zero risk in killing an opponent, the party got absolutely no XP, regardless of the level of the opponent. Anyone who has actually had to DM those systems knows this. No, the termininology has not been around since the beginning, even though it fits. Other than that, you just repeated what I wrote. Seems we have a misunderstanding here.
  2. I don't care what he plays either, but it does not make sense to me to have someone who hates Baldur's Gate try make a spiritual successor. I am not surprised that he is changing all of the fundamental mechanics to his liking. I really do not think that it is a good idea to have somebody who hates Baldur's Gate (but loves Skyrim) try and make a classic RPG. You don't have a patent on being right, just because you're older than other people. That would be terrifying for our world. As with literature, cinema, philosophy - there are different approaches to what roleplaying is. You should just get down of that high horse of yours. So you hate classic CRPGs then. Bravo sir. Welcome to Josh Sawyer's little club of classic RPG hate. Anyway, this is why all modern RPGs are dumbed down and classic RPGs are dead. Just change everything until everything that made these games great is gone... What was the point of Project Eternity again? let me give you a hint: The point was not to make a dumbed down modern RPG. I seriously doubt you were granted experience on the fly, in the middle of combat, though. And unless your DM was playing with house rules (which is highly possible), you didn't get any XP for being level 7, finding a 1 HD orc and killing it, which is part of the unspoken "kill XP" package as well. Every combat encounter had a challenge rating. And you got experience for overcoming these encounters. This has been around since the beginning. The 2 most popular PnP systems (D&D + Pathfinder) still use this system. And what if the challenge rating is very low (because your level is much higher), what happens then? Well, then you get little to no xp and not some exorbitant amount as you claim. btw, even if you get the experience on the fly or after the session has ended you still got your combat xp! Always!
  3. You should sig that to spare yourself the effort of posting it every time. Then again a bigger post count makes you look better too. Don't get mad at me, I didn't write that I hate Baldur's Gate. Josh Sawyer did.
  4. Relativize all you want, it won't change the fact that Josh Sawyer said that he does not like Baldur's Gate 2 + Throne of Bhaal.
  5. I see that Sawyer's little disciples really hate the fact that lead designer Josh Sawyer hates Baldur's Gate.
  6. Ah, but 'Tis not only I junior disciple. I am only the harbinger of the upcoming vexation. The time of vexation will soon be upon us. Heed my warnings! Forsake ye dastardly god and repent for your sins!
  7. Yes, you have to love the relativizing here. Let me begin. Right. When Josh says he hardly likes anything about Baldur's Gate he of course meant that he likes most of it. Sure. lol. Right. After playing a loving Skyrim so much he has just suddenly realised that Baldur's Gate 2 was actually a really good game after hating it all those years. Sure. lol Right. The IE games are considered to be some of the best RPGs ever created. So now we must completely change them. Sure. lol By the way: That has never gone wrong, ever. Never ever, ever, ever. Right? hehe
  8. Bloodlines is completely different than the IE games. It is 100% linear, has very little loot, is not tactical combat based, etc. That is why quest only xp works and makes sense for Bloodlines. Comparing Bloodlines to Baldur's Gate is like comparing Fallout 1+2 to Fallout 3. They are completely different. I'm saying that the quality of the game can remain completely unaffected by how the XP system works, not that bloodlines is like bg1/2.And I am saying that it does matter. A lot actually. I would not want combat xp for Bloodlines, or even Deus Ex for that matter, because it doesn't fit. And you like to whine about my whining. But I think I just complain more out of principle, seeing that Josh completely ignores the Baldur's Gate fans, because we are all just morons who love "degenerate gameplay" (as Josh likes to say) hehe. They said they would give us a classic IE style CRPG, but instead they are giving us Josh Sawyer's retarded love child - teh RPG. I don't like being lied to. And I don't want to believe that classic tactical combat based CRPGs are truly dead. I just have not given up like the rest, I think there is still hope. Maybe Sawyer will finally get his dream job at Bethesda, so he can make crappy Bethesda RPGs, the only kind he really likes.
  9. Well, I wouldn't go so far and call Icewind Dale 2 Sawyer's baby, seeing that is basically just a carbon copy of Icewind Dale with a little variation. Not to mention that he did not design the system (D&D) and fundamental game design (which was the same for all of the IE games). But yes, essentially Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate are very similar, BG just had more story and had companions (you only had PCs in IWD)... other than that they were almost exactly the same. So maybe he doesn't like Icewind Dale either. lol
  10. [x] none of the above Because that is the correct answer.
  11. "Miss classic cRPGs like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment? So do we!" Josh Sawyer does not miss Baldur's Gate, he hates it. I guess they should change it to avoid all of the confusion. Then nobody here will expect an IE style game anymore.
  12. I didn't like a whole lot about Skyrim either. In other words, I do not like it at all. If I made a sucessor to Skyrim, then I would change everything too. And as you can see, that is exactly what Mr. Sawyer is doing with PE. He is changing everything so it appeals to himself and not to the fans that love the Baldur's Gate series, because he hates the Baldur's gate series.
  13. Bloodlines is completely different than the IE games. It is 100% linear, has very little loot, is not tactical combat based, etc. That is why quest only xp works and makes sense for Bloodlines. 14. Click the button on the top left of the toolbar in the editor. It is called "BBCode Mode" and looks like a light switch.
  15. Yeah, Josh Sawyer said in a nice way that he hates Baldur's Gate 2. But he loves Skyrim! (just check his twitter feed, lol) So maybe he should apply for a job @ Bethesda instead of trying to make a spiritual successor to a game that he hates. For real? skyrim might be a decent game, but I thought it was an absymal RPG, with little to no C&C and most importantly; no consequences to character choices; you can be guildmaster of every guild at the same time, rival or not. And you can excel in every field of skill. I doubt PE will be like skyrim, but I fail to see the merrits of that game as a proper CRPG. Yeah Syrim is a horrible RPG... and the game itself is just mediocre. But at least you are rewarded for combat in Skyrim, which will make it superior to PE in that respect. A horrible RPG will have a mechanic that is superior to the one found in PE. hehe. Funny how that works. I agree.
  16. Did you don't understand that this is not discusion "WILL THEY PUT ROMANCES" in games .. But what king yof romances you liked in romances or whanna be inspiration IF THEY ADD THEM ? I know wath Avellone and Sawyer thinks about romances ... but last time if i remember Sawyer sad if they will have time etc they will consider putting them .. so basiacly they are not saying yes or no ... Sawyer somewhere sad that romnances are for "Egostocking" the player ... but as you see only 4 member want to be worshiped in romnace and 5 for sex scenes from 42 that had voted .. so basiacly he is wrong or at least he is pretending and don't really want to know.. Of coure not every player voted in this poll but i also think that Sewyer don't asked every fan about that subject .. so at this moment poll is only true evidence.. And thred is also to show "ROMANCE/ LOVE haters" that pro-romances are not nerds, that want only to se boobs "Ohh and ahhs) and hear every 3 seconds "You are the best on the planet !" We alrady have thred that "ARE YOU YES OR NO FOR ROMANCES" this is "WHAT KIND OF ROMANCES ?". Even that Romance Thread VI show that most players are for ..in this that most players don't want them for boobs or ego ... so conclusion is simple .. end it harder to lie or ignore when you see statictic ... Oh, i em surry. Teh topik say "What features of romances you whoud like to see in PE ?" I tought I myte say a small komment and sumting about dis, becuz thare be no romance. Josh Sawyer no implement dem game mechanics no he like. He is lead designer yu no. No chance fo romancing the gender of your prefeerencing. Pleaze du not yall at mi. I just want to say dat. Nuthing moar.
  17. Yeah, Josh Sawyer said in a nice way that he hates Baldur's Gate 2. But he loves Skyrim! (just check his twitter feed, lol) So maybe he should apply for a job @ Bethesda instead of trying to make a spiritual successor to a game that he hates.

  19. ^ I am totally on your side TRX850 and agree with you 110% But about the BG Legacy you are talking about: The Mr. Lead Designer Sawyer hates BG, so don't expect PE to have much in common with one of the greatest RPG Series ever made. Oh yeah, Sawyer does love Skyrim though....
  20. Somehow I doubt there will even be an expansion...
  21. I see nothing has changed here much after my "voluntary" break from the forum. Quite ironic, seeing that they are considered to be some of the RPGs ever made. That is why PE is being made actually. Ah yes, same old ****.
  22. Seeing that lead designer Mr. Sawyer doesn't like romances, there won't be any noteworthy romancing in the game. Unless you can romance cats that is.
  23. Then don't purchase the game, problem solved.Yeah, it is a simple solution. The backers that feel deceived and lied to can (and will) sell their licenses. I guess i'm gonna be a day one licence seller myself. But I'll buy the game when once it drops to 99 cents on steam.
