Hard mode is too easy.
Sacred_Path replied to Mazisky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Wut? You're claiming they misnamed normal mode because you didn't experience frustration. Not a great point, and not very debatable. What I do say is that I find playing the game on Hard, which is described as suitable for Infinity Engine veterans, more challenging than playing any Infinity Engine game on Normal. Btw, if you played the beta to any extent you're a veteran too. Or really, if you just have a good grasp of RPG mechanics (you're a veteran of the genre). -
I'm a little confounded by the little guys being great at surviving melee combat while the big guys are standing in the back, plinking away with their little arrows. But then, they don't even have arrows. Also, dragons.

Not today. And not by BG1's/ IWD's/ IWD2's/PS:T's standards. Dude it's literally written in the game. If you want to stick to literalities I'd venture a guess that there are people out there who have experienced frustration playing PoE on Normal. -

Definitely is, compared to anything that came out in the last 15 years. The whole is definitely more than the sum of its parts - and so it can satisfy grognards, roleplayers and people who just come for the fantasy fluff.

For every self declared feminist you bring who campaigns against prostitution I'll raise you one who hails prostitution and porn as a symbol of female empowerment and autonomy. Which is why his point is simply silly. Prostitution is controversial, far from being a one-sided affair. And since Obsidian probably doesn't want to and definitely can't resolve the matter, the only PC thing this would bring about is simply omittance. And omitting things for fear of controversy is detrimental to the idea of art.

Uh... yes? Uhm... no. But you're right, let there be a thread people can dump all their various SJ objections into. "Prostitutes in this game don't earn fair wages!" "You can steal things in this game, which gives you items for free!" "I got rewarded for hitting things with weapons!" I'm actually looking forward to it right now. Promise I won't even post in it.

Not too much emphasis on companions please. Customizing my own party is too much fun for me to even consider taking companions along. More scripted interactions is my one big wish. Combat is very nice and everything, but putting my character's skills to use more often would be awesome. This inculdes dialogue checks (hello, Tim!). Especially, more race and class specific dialogue.

INT = Wild Magic?
Sacred_Path replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If you have some influence on the process this can be a nice feature. I liked that in Wizardry I could attempt a more powerful version of a spell with a higher chance of failure. Without spell power levels though... it would be mostly annoying. -
Dual Wielding Shields Possible?
Sacred_Path replied to bigsun123's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I don't really want the game balanced around this kind of thing, thanks. edit: and I don't want it to go in unbalanced either.- 24 replies

Perception, Resolve, and dump stats! Oh, my!
Sacred_Path replied to Ganrich's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
People would bitch. And for a reason. Stun effects, especially repeating stun effects, are among the most boring/ infuriating status effects.- 58 replies

What race will you play as?
Sacred_Path replied to Barothmuk's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Possibly Godlike. It's that quirky choice of race that might trigger more interesting (conversation) options. Then again, I also want to use an Auamaua Cipher... -
Health/Endurance ratio
Sacred_Path replied to PrimeJunta's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
judging from J.E.'s earlier posts it seemed that preserving health was all about defenses. In which case it would make sense that it's not yet working quite right on the fighter as that needs a lot of fine tuning. -
Racism?
Sacred_Path replied to begginfokillz's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Indeed. Popular prejudice against Celts in the Mediterranean world was that they lacked endurance and wer generally slothful, had a short temper and were unreliable (whereas certain Germanic tribes were attributed a practically inborn sense of loyalty). Generally, one's place of origin was considered determenational regarding your character and physical and mental condition. This mindset is evident in a lot of ancient historiographies. So yeah, some form of prejudice against people with a different geographical background could be expected in PoE. -
Update #69: Pillars of Eternity

****. Yes. I've been pretty critical of nearly everything I've read before but seeing the game in action makes a huge difference.- 488 replies

Not really. There's a difference between beheading a bandit leader, just to be presented with the message "You just received 5 cruelty points! All healing sources will be denied to you!", and "the priest of the mercy god" reacting reserved to your reputation for cruelty that you built up carefully (by making informed decisions). The latter is much more intuitive.
