New playable race
AndreaColombo replied to ChaosMaker90's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Races of Eora cannot breed with one another, so half-anything isn't going to happen. It is also my understanding that no demons, devils, or celestials exist; so I doubt aasimar or tiefling could possibly happen. We already have the PoE equivalent of planetouched races in the form of godlikes. That said, I'm very much against race-spamming (it is something inherently related to people who feel playing "elves" and "dwarves" ain't exotic enough and must have a half-dragon balor to feel original and cool.) I believe the races in PoE are more than enough and provide enough variety. It would be very weird to play PoE with 6 races, and all of a sudden have 1 or more extra races in PoE 2 that are supposedly "common"; like, "where were you until now?" -
So, White march 1 to ... 3?

And it would have been harder to justify giving both to backers at no extra charge, which is what was promised in the first place ('cause really, conceptually The White March is one expansion; they merely split it in two halves 'cause it would have been a strategically bad move to release an expansion one year after the original game.) -
Pillars of Eternity does have a day/night cycle and NPCs wandering around, although it could definitely use more of the latter. evilcat ninja'd me on this. "Isometric RPG" is a genre, not a standard. So making one in 2015 does not mean you are ignoring today's standards. Quite the opposite: Obsidian went to great lengths to ensure their 2D backgrounds would have real-time lighting and shadow effects, which was not as easy a task as to have the same things in a full-3D environment. But as I said, Pillars of Eternity doesn't cater to modern console kids who only care about flashy graphics and VOs. It caters to people who still want to play games like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. This is by design. It is not a byproduct of having a small budget; it is what the devs wanted to do all along and what backers forked out their cash for. Again, I wouldn't back an action RPG for any amount but I would pour all the cash I could on another IE-like game. I don't need flashy graphics in my games; I need quality content and quality writing.

Guess standing on two feet must have been hard with all that adra stacked on its body. No wonder it was also slow as eff in combat. -
Thankfully Obsidian was not out to make another shooter with swords "action RPG". Some people here still enjoy the old-school isometric games with tactical, party-based combat and RTwP. I've just recently bought The Witcher 3 and as good as it is (because it is; credit where credit is due), I still like Pillars of Eternity a ton better. And that has everything to do with its being isometric, party based, RTwP, and heavily relying on text. I would gladly back PoE 2 for another $250—even more, if I could spare more—but I would never pay the same amount for any "action RPG".

I feel like this is becoming my personal thread http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3706905&userid=17931&perpage=40&pagenumber=6 Not sure if "eventually" means "by the time the patch is officially released" or "in a future patch", but further AI improvements are welcome (especially if they are also given to enemy AI.)

[2.0 beta] Proofing armor not working
AndreaColombo replied to MathieuG89's question in Patch Beta Bugs and Support
DR is % based (yes, the UI is bad at communicating this.) Mail Armor provides an overall DR value of 9 but it is weaker against Crush, offering only 50% of its DR value as protection against it (4.5, rounded up to 5 by the UI.) When you enchant your armor to Exceptional, you add +4 to the overall DR value of 9, which becomes 13. Crush is 50% of that, or 6.5 (rounded up to 7 by the UI.) Proofing is calculated as (13+3)*50%, which gives you 8. So yes, proofing is more effective (and gets you more bang for your buck) if used on something the armor is already strong against. Kinda counter intuitive, but that's how it works. It is working as intended, but the UI is exceedingly bad at letting you know (this has been an issue since release.) -

Again, since getting both parts through Kickstarter was $20, getting both parts retail had to be at least $25. Which is what it is, coincidentally. Not sure what the issue is? -
Some issues during adra dragon fight
AndreaColombo replied to wuthering20's question in Patch Beta Bugs and Support
Got a saved game to upload (at least for the third issue, possibly with a screenshot proving your character dealt the lethal blow to the dragon)? For the first two points a video would likely showcase them better, but I suppose it's kind of late for that now -
[2.0 beta] Character stuck on scenery
AndreaColombo replied to biochemRhapsody's question in Patch Beta Bugs and Support
Third option: Install the IE Mod so you can cheat without typing "IRoll20s" and losing achievements. Once you've done your cheating, you can uninstall the mod ... but why would you?
