  1. Good on Josh for standing up to that stuff. We have the same issues in academia. Also, interesting confirmation that the audio came in super late. I assume because the voice acting choice was made pretty late?
  2. Based on the beta, I wouldn't say anything was noticably different than the way Pillars was written, so I'm not too worried about "dumbing down" for voice acting. More generally, if forcing lines to be read aloud reduces the number of lore dumps, I'd say that's a good thing. A lot of Pillars could have done with having less but more punchy text, rather than more.
  3. Arcane Veil-Riposte for rogue/wizard combos is really good, because AV pushes deflection high enough to actually get reliable misses.
  4. I thought they were the Pink Isle Pirates now? The Black Isle Bastards are gone, I tell you. GONE!
  5. Technically it is not. The studio that made The Witcher 3 (CD Projekt Red) is owned by the publisher (CD Projekt). Like EA and BioWare/DICE/Motive/etc or ZeniMax/Bethesda Softwork and Bethesda Gaming Studio. Those gaming studio have no independence from their publishers. I was out technical-ed! I thought CD Projekt Red was the parent company.
  6. By that logic Witcher 3 is an indie game. But it's okay. I know you feed off the lulz you get by trolling like this. Technically it is. All we're pointing out here is that indie is a functionally meaningless term.
  7. On accessability to new players, don't forget that Deadfire's bringing in Tyranny's tag system, so people'll be able to mouse over the names of in world things they don't have the context for and get it explained. And really, beyond the names of factions, Pillars' story isn't too complicated. Just make it clear that the gods are super AIs and you can speak a forgotten language in the introduction, and everything else could probably be picked up through context.
  8. If this is a bug, that will be changed too. Because it's only half duration because of the 50% beneficial effect duration reduction.
  9. They cut a lot of stuff from the game, including being able to get Iovara's soul to help you in the fight against Thaos in exchange for freeing the Forgiven souls. This might be one of those things. Oh, I had no idea that was going to be an option. Interesting.
  10. It's weird that Steel Garrote paladins and Priests of Woedica clearly exist in the code (and based on the patch notes for beta 4 are still being actively developed), but aren't player available. Perhaps it's DLC stuff.
  11. It's in the content warning, so probably? I seem to remember hearing that rendered male genitalia are confirmed, probably for NPCs in the bathhouse.
  12. Are the final tally of things that don't scale: Summons, summoned weapons and ranger pets?
  13. I just had a fiddle about with spellblade (wizard/streetfighter). If you build into a melee build it's really good post-level 7. Throw on Arcane Veil, dual wield a weapon type with +ACC to make up for the fact you need resolve to push your deflection higher so can't really invest in PER, then just get surrounded and kill everything with ripostes. It'll be even better if riposte gets changed to on graze in the final version. It might actually be even better with a priest of Wael/streetfighter, as I was only really making use of Arcane Veil, rather than the other wizard spells. I didn't think to check whether riposte triggers while casting, if so, it would be a great buffer/DPSer.
  14. If you enter the code and they get hidden in the world that's cool. If you just get them that's bad and it completely breaks the difficulty curve. Especially as we have a ludicrous number at this point.
  15. It appears based on the description in the character creator that the Mage Slayer penalty has been changed from a -50% beneficial effect duration to the same chance of spell failure occuring on beneficial spells cast on the Mage Slayer as hostile spells. However, in game a global -50% beneficial effect duration is still applied.
  16. This would be my ideal too. Letting you take existing companions in and having them react properly (assuming their endings allow for it). I wouldn't want (a large number) of temporary companions who only exist in the new areas a la New Vegas.
  17. I'm also getting this. It's not unplayably bad (and definitely better than other people here are reporting), but considerably worse than the previous betas. 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2 GB, running OSX 10.13.3.
  18. As many scholars follow Galawain. He's the god of hunts, both literal and abstract. Research is hunting.
  19. It would be weird if this was intended, as it's a straight upgrade. And I seem to remember in previous version is did apply Tenacious and Hardy.
