She was an anime character dangled in front of people for money. She was designed to make people care. Plus the concept of a death obsessed animancer is a really good one for this series, especially considering how badly they've handled animancy up to now. The only way they can really rescue it, outside the metaknowledge sense of "well 19th century mental healthcare was terrible too, but look where it's got us!" is to give people a look at the positive side of animancy and the best way to do that would be to make one travel with you. It's a shame we didn't make it, without a animancer party member, it's going to be very hard to give them a fair shake. Especially as the not-East India company are probably horrifying imperialists, and presumably that's where the majority of the animancers will be, as the Republics are the pro-animancy state. E: Completely missed a page of responses there! May as well make some changes while I'm at it!

Sounds more like him acknowledging that Ydwin is pretty popular (atm anyway) and that all of the sidekicks have the same first class choice restrictions. I think that means 2 of the sidekicks(out of 4) have special subclasses, Ydwin has class choice but no special subclass. Its not clear ıf the 2 that have special subclasses also have class choice or locked "first class". Conclusive evidence that Ydwin is the least special.

If they're trying to make the subclasses matter more, I wouldn't be surprised if both Untroubled Faith was removed entirely. I highly doubt you're going to see a Devoted Fighter talent that removes their penalties with other weapon types, so by analogy it would seem weird if they're systematising things to get to dodge the dispositional requirements for paladins/priests.

Walking Part 2
CottonWolf replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The end of the first series was so disappointing, I don't know that I can commit to a Part 2. -
I'm not completely up to date, but it's been confirmed that you'll be able to change your class, items won't carry over (though maybe you'll be able to find some of the uniques again, I bet they'll have completely different stats due to the changes though), and at least some of the unique perks will reappear in some form if you got them in 1. Last time I heard they were going backwards and forwards on race. I can't imagine culture will be changable because even if they justify it by your soul moving to a new body or something (highly likely IMO), it'll still be the same consciousness, so given that culture is socailised, it wouldn't make sense for that to change.

Personally, I nearly exclusively play games on console. I need a mac for work, so I have an expensively set up one of those, and I can't justify getting a gaming PC as well, so the only things I end up playing on a "PC" are non-console games that have mac ports (like PoE). I can't imagine ever playing Pillars with a controller though, the UI just wouldn't work for that.

That's very much not the same thing. Being legally genderless in an abstract lore sense with no acknoledgement beyond the theoretical is a completely different actually accounting for it in dialogue etc.

A melee paladin/ranger seems like it would be great for soloing. Up the survivability with Zealous Endurance, then use the pet as a DPS boost, with all the coordinating talents, and the one that increases defences against AoEs when both targets are hit. Not that I ever play these games solo, but it's a pretty obvious one.

More Music?
CottonWolf replied to Dark_Ansem's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Another vote for boss music, the fact that there wasn't really any until White March is baffling. Boss themes are good, people! -
Yes! I'd want that more generally though. Read a book about the political issues in Neketaka, unlock a dialogue option you'd otherwise require a high lore skill to have known without looking it up. Dig through some Engwithan ruins and read a tablet guarded by a strong mob and learn something you'd otherwise need really high metaphysics to have worked out. There were a few choices that could be unlocked by multiple routes in PoE1 (the Galawain choice in the opening when talking to the people who slaughter your caravan could be unlocked by Lore 1 or Int 15, for example). I want more stuff like that.

Baby on Board
CottonWolf replied to ThatUndeadLegacy's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It didn't happen to everyone. As I understand it, it was a chance thing based on your proximity to the Engwithan machines. They mention a few times about it not hitting Eir Glanfath at all.
