  1. Just characters with real motivations and problems. Some tropes are ok, some are nice if they are subverted. I generally like my kick-ass girls. Not frail, talk back, don't take your bull****. Basically Jessica Alba in the first season of Dark Angel. (Which can't really be beat anyway, she's perfection )
  2. From the Cipher update it appeared to me that Ciphers are pretty good at breaking up parties, which might make them interesting in managing encounters. That the rogue is a debuffer pleases me greatly, that's how I planned to play mine.
  3. I'm going to play a high resolve rogue, that's for sure.
  4. I was musing on the fact that if you changed Constitution to Health and Dexterity to Agility, it would give the acronym SHAPIR. Unfortunately I couldn't come up with a good I => E conversion for Intellect. how about ego pig headedness, zeal, indoctrination, pass. Ms Kindheart doesn't care for Zealots, all brawn no brain. Is resolve a big thing for paladins? What good would it do for a rogue?
  5. if I'm understanding Total Biscuit's video, the issue is not with "piracy" of the content and that there's no issue with people that are sharing the game footage. The issue is coming from the monetization of the content. So for the Lets Players that don't just share the content, but actively seek to make money off of it. If we're going to use your piracy analogy, this would be akin to not going after those that actively distribute for the sake of distribution, but rather going after those that seek to profit off the distribution of the content (although in general I would say that the piracy analogy doesn't work all that well). Thousands of videos have suddenly been flagged for copyright violation where it does not apply, either because it was fair use, or explicit permission had been given. Popular and Franchised youtubers have some protection from this, so yay if you work for machinima. But there are now countless youtubers who find their content shut down by false claims. The youtuber is coerced into either closing his content, or letting the copyright holders (alleged) get the profits of his video. They've got their **** reversed because that is theft of intellectual property at best and censorship at worst. This isn't a hypothetical, Youtubers ARE having their legitimate content flagged and blocked. And there is no Appeals process. That's unethical.
  6. Put me down as someone who loved the music. I hope to hear more of it in the finished game. The epicness (err, epicality?) is not something to be shy about. Go nuts with that. Take it to 11. just not for all songs. Bombastic music isn't always the right tone for the setting. Not that I'm telling you anything you don;t know.
  7. considering the quality of amateur voice acting in some mods I know, I'll pass.
  8. I would pay for a few things, including crafting 2.0, more non plot-critical content, better mod support, and expanded/customizable stronghold. stuff already considered in the original kickstarter.
  9. the problem with these (and I was aware of this) new regulations is that they are going to become increasingly unenforceable. You simply cannot imprison or sue entire populations. It's why prohibition tactics have always failed for anything which is easy to produce and share, like certain drugs, alcohol, and now digital content.
  10. Yeah the problem with that argument is that it doesn't reflect reality. 80% of people pirate. That's everyone with a computer who isn't a grandma. Any industry which is dying can be seen litigating. It's a panic move because those who hold(held) power in the industry are holding on to obsolete business methods and ethics. You can rail all you want about how unfair it is that people pirate your stuff, but that's not going to change the fact that over 80% of people pirate. It is much wiser, as many artists are doing now, to offer cheap alternatives and use the promotional quality of (illegal) sharing. Not because it's right or wrong, but because it's better business. That big producers and publishers see their profits dwindle doesn't bother me, because they've been holding monopoly positions for too long, controlling what you and I heard. Now we have the great equalizer in the Internet, and smaller artists get to make a buck too. What you're seeing now is not some high and mighty crusade for copyright holders, it's a an industry of monopolists trying desperately to hold on to their power. For that I have no sympathy. They have a way out, which is adapting their business models to deal with the new reality. Instead of kicking down their smaller competition, or worse yet, their promoters.
  11. we'll see
  12. Sure, I get where it comes from, but on the other hand, their consumer hostile practices are driving their revenue away, so it's not going to be sustainable.
  13. Yeah I disagree, I think it's likely to change. This obsolete view cannot hold up in front of the burst of information and creativity that is the internet. Innovation and honest competition, plus creative reintepretation of works are all boosts to the economy. They are terrible to the monopolies of Vevo and viacom and the like however. I will not shed one tear when their absolute hold is destroyed.
  14. --> trade routes, NPC thieving etc add gold --> working with organisations (Druid circles, Mages, Dwarven inventors, assassins etc) - adds unique items --> working with racial enclaves might add allies during siege (Elven archers on the battlements!) --> working against shadowy groups or competitors, lessens the chance of sieges, caravan robberies etc. --> that Knight's hamlet you "annexed" --> +Food and Conscripts! I like your idea, though I think the current stronghold plans are set. I wonder how this management would fit into the main path though. And you have to be careful that you're not mixing a different game in with the one you're making. That said, anything which expands on the sstronghold is likely to be met with positive criticism from me
  15. I know MMO's are not popular here, but I did like that in Guild Wars you could move every element of the UI around and put it where you wanted it to be, make it as large as you wanted it to be. Everybody wins. Screen real estate is important, which is why transparent is favoured by me over the old Baldurs gate UI. I do get that you want that feel that the UI is part of the game. (much like is so expertly done in Papers, Please) But it's ultimately not as important as intuitive and easy to use UI.
  16. I couldn't agree more, even if the tools aren't perfect, it will always beat releasing nothing. And since we're talking mod support, anything that is released is optional for players, meaning if they don't like it, they don't need to get it.
  17. You'll get what you were promised first, the backer site list was just incomplete. It's being/been fixed.
  18. I thought it was too short to judge, but I do hope to see a lot of ambient music that isn't overly bombastic, and perhaps some very melodic pieces for inns and the like would be really nice.
  19. I just want to thank the mods, you're doing great work and I'm sure it's pretty hectic right now. Thanks!
  20. So, I was wondering what the public opinion is currently on the changes Youtube has brought about recently. I have never been a fan of how difficult it is to provide real feedback to real persons working for Youtube. The site is designed for maximum insulation of the staff. Understandable for a site which is visited by hundreds of millions of people every day, but also a serious weakness where there is no place for criticism, appeal or feedback. Nor was I particularly pleased to see how Youtube, for years, has handled takedown notices, where the appeal process didn't exist, and the only people managing to successfully appeal where those with vast followings or those who have 3rd party representation thanks to their contracts. (like those who are part of machinima) This has always been an issue (remember guywiththeglasses?) But has become especially poignant recently with even bigger blanket takedowns. Certainly I wasn't too pleased when it became impossible to load an entire video but only see a minute buffered at maximum. The new player turning out to be directly inferior to the old one. Then they changed the comment system to be more like social networks, because that's completely inspired and original. Then along with the previous, Youtube abandoned all pretence of not being evil by effectively forcing anyone with an account to link their private data to their account by accepting Google+, something the vast majority of Youtube end-users explicitly do not want. I've managed to hold off so far, but that means I cannot save a video to my favourites (pop-up appears to set up my Google+ account) comment or like a comment (ditto) Now Google has introduced takedown bots with increased zeal, which without review or appeal take any content which has even a small part of copyrighted content (even if used under fair use, or with used with explicit permission, even) and either take it down, or force the uploader to pay royalties. This amounts to giving the industry the ability to blanket censorship, power which they are already widely abusing. I think this spells the end of Youtube, even giants may fall, and there are still alternatives where users can move to. It didn't happen before because content creators where largely unaffected, with some exceptions. The new system is so broken that I'm confident that content creators themselves will jump ship. And if the consumer hostile practices of Youtube, the innovation and creativity stifling, job killing legislation of the DMCA aren't changed, I say good riddance.
  21. they just lost one.
  22. missing, it was during the kickstarter period even though it was paypal (october 12th 2012)
  23. I believe so, just donate via paypal first, and confirm it on the backer site later.
