Playstation 4 version ?
The problem with that is that because of the limitations of the medium, serious compromises would have to be made that aren't necessary for keyboard + mouse. It's not just the control scheme, but the amount input you are required to deliver playing. Plus the game would have to be ported to consoles, which would also require deals with Microsoft and Sony. While I might be wrong, I do believe that the target audience for this type of Role-playing game is also mostly PC gamer. Besides PC's have the lovely advantage of mod support.

Update #69: Pillars of Eternity
So the pillars of eternity, are they pillars of Adra? that shiny material of which the logo seems to be made? this material was considered valuable, perhaps it stores souls or soul energy? A way to keep your soul eternal? Maybe it provides a portal or link to the world where souls go before reincarnation? making every site with Adra interesting for diviners and the like.

New stretch goals for companions and wilderness areas?
Every time I'm worried you come to the rescue -- I get many in this thread who are opposed, you bring good arguments. Those who are for more stretch goals, like myself, I think are just enthusiastic about getting as much as we can. Greedy as that may be, I've been following the interviews and this forum since the kickstarter ended, and every time the scope and time management is brought up, I can see how dedicated Obsidian is to structure and planning time for each feature. I'm confident that if new stretch goals were added, this scope management would still be up. Obsidian has a reputation to fix when it comes to releasing on time and bug-free, and I believe they are determined to make that happen. Question for the devs: Would new stretch goals only include companions and wilderness areas? or would the backers be polled as to what they would like to see?

Update #69: Pillars of Eternity
funny, I did the same thing, it's shown now as "donation" but I did not get that menu. Maybe I did something wrong. Anyway it's now listed as "ok" with the big green checkmark and I cannot edit it, so I hope I didn't do anything wrong. At least it's listed along with my digital game only tier.

Update #69: Pillars of Eternity
I don't know why everyone seems so elated, I showed the gameplay teaser to a friend of mine who doesn't know anything about this game and his reply was "Looks generic", which kind of echoes my sentiment. Maybe I'm just hard to please, but the gameplay teaser is a big meh. In combat you see the party members complete stock still unless they're casting anything. They are hit by lightning and just stand there, all in identical poses. please please please include more animations for the PC's. Not only is a large number of animations useful for the modding community, but it makes it seem a lot more slick. Backer site is awesome, though I'd like to know where I can edit my profile.

Nelson Mandela, dead at 95
How about that speech Obama gave huh, that's one thing he does well (or his speech writers) It was almost embarrassing to see the Brazilian and Chinese speeches after that.

My EP story ..your EP story and now let the story be told
"How can they know? They are slaughtered by the thousands, by disease, by us, by their stupidity, and by their own. But every year there's a new wave of them. Pioneers, seekers of fortune, the desperate and needy, the greedy and the frail. Each year they die by the world they've come to, or the world they were trying to flee. It's like a cancer spreading it's tendrils across virgin soil. Except this is not virgin soil, this is our soil. We've been here long before they even heard of us. These are our secrets they despoil, our forests they burn, our water they poison, and our daughters they rape. Can we stand by as they destroy what they take? Is ignorance an excuse for evil? I have no doubt we have come across their very worst, those that wore out their welcome in their own land. The outcasts of a careless and uncaring society. Why should they make their problems ours? Because they can, because they don't care, because they have no idea of the havoc they cause. They count the treasures they plunder but not the men they lose. There are more men every year, what does the demise of the sordid count? Nothing! I say we must help them! We must cleanse every sordid soul from OUR land. Send them back, the beggars, the thieves and rapists, the slavers and the explorers. We have tried to teach them, but they cannot be taught! We shall burn the harbours they built, we shall burn their boats inside them, we will break Defiance from within! They burn our trees? we'll burn their ships! they poison our water? We'll deprive them of theirs! They steal our sons and daughters? Asheet will Poison their crops! From now on it is everyone's duty to end the occupation. Smile at them, as you sabotage their lives, take their weapons, and use those against them. Any man who ventures outside the city's protection shall perish, inside the city we'll spread plague, as they have in ours, we'll torch their supplies, and we'll not once show our face to them. We will make life impossible for them!" "Those are fierce words, but you should consider, as we make life impossible for them, how much worse will they make it for us? Burn their boats? They'll send more! Burn their harbours? What's to prevent them from building them again? Or do you believe that those stuck on this side will quietly keel over and die? I too lost a daughter to these rapacious beasts! But I've come across better men as well. You say they cannot be taught? I disagree! But in order to learn, one must first be willing to listen! We've kept our secrets and they pillaged them? Would they have done the same if they had known what the results would be? Maybe, maybe not. You rightly say they bring us their worst, and their problems, are we to judge them by their worst? Are their problems not our own? I think they are! It is their lawlessness and isolation which allows the beasts to roar in our night, it is their poverty which drives their greed, their desperation which makes them take risks on hostile shores. We have not been welcoming-" "And why should we be welcoming?" The first time they came here they left half of us dead! My grandfather died, and yours did as well, fighting their treachery! And how do you propose to teach the deaf and the blind? They have no interest in us save as a trade good or a convenient excuse for violence! No my friend, your heart is soft and your mind is weak! We'll begin now, to end their occupation, once and for all!" "There are other ways! petition their lord-" "I do not recognise their pissant lord as a leader on our lands! But since you are so set on your treachery, I have a proposal to make! How about you go to their plague ridden city, and teach, meanwhile, we'll do something useful! Go! you are banished! go lick the heels of your new masters while we take back what is ours by right!"

World Map Travel
Story content, sure. But I hate random encounters with a passion. They are arbitrary obstacles placed in between you and what you really want to do. They're generic, tedious and superfluous. Want to rest? oops, no, **** you, you HAVE to do this first. They're a grind. They aren't arbitrary; they represent the risk of traveling through wilderness areas. That's the way it works in the wilderness--as you travel through the wilds you randomly come across potential dangers, be it bears, cougars, snakes, angry badgers, or what have you. But sometimes the biggest dangers are other people. What's lacking is a means to mitigate that risk. You should be able to choose to navigate your way along the more travelled roads, or take the risk of moving directly cross country along a shorter path. Avoiding the random hazards of the wilds is one of the benefits of having a Ranger. A Ranger should also be more likely to find interesting sites to explore. I agree, the problem is threat mitigation. I wrote an alternative to exploring the wilderness last year, I'm afraid to necro the thread, but maybe you want to have a look at it. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/62261-a-wilderness-idea/ I figured this would be a good way to allow people to choose their risk, plus give certain classes a little more versatility (like the ranger) I think it's a fair match with what we're discussing now.

Nelson Mandela, dead at 95
95 is a fair age to die at, if you look at the responses, you'd think Jesus himself had died. That just goes to show how impactful this man's life has been. RIP. 1994 was the age where I started to become aware of the world (in large part due to the fact that the Netherlands has news for children) and Mandela's presidency is one of the first noteworthy world events I have a recollection of.

Suggestion for dungeon detail: Underground Garden / Alt Dimensions
Execution beats originality. We have a saying in the Netherlands "Beter goed gejat dan slecht bedacht" or "Better stolen well than poorly thought of" Besides, there are very few truly original ideas, it's not really possible, since we need input to get output, even if we're creative. I like many in the list Aluminiumtrioxid linked, as well as Underground gardens. It's important that every level fits to a theme, and that everything in it is in support, or in contrast with that theme. here's my suggestion A crater (stark walls, feels underground but open to the air) in which the crater itself is a Large garden/maze of plants and trees, colourful, different styles, plants work as traps with entanglement, poison, hallucinations, and cover for hostile animals, with in the centre a Japanese architecture palace with the way out inside.

What are you playing now?
I've finished X-com: Enemy within, I thought it was alright, not great. Yesterday I started Mark of the Ninja, which today I finished. Tomorrow I'll start new game plus and get those last few scrolls. Ton of fun, wholly recommended. Stylish, maybe a little bit too easy, but that's perfect for me since this isn't generally my type of game.
