  1. You may have a point if they're the only gimped class, but release is upon us at the end of the month. There's not much time left to get it right before the physical goods start showing up in mailboxes 'round the world.
  2. No, not an overreaction at all. If the animal companions lack the ability to evade, shrug off (damage resistance), or regenerate damage, then the ranger is by and large screwed if forced to melee. They'll be dedicated archers in the rear of the party acting as fire support and body guards for the wizards with their animal companions joined to them at the hip lest the critter get surrounded and put down right quick in a fierce battle. If Sensuki's assessment is correct, that which should be an asset is instead a liability.
  3. Never did like the work of that particular artist--too cartoonish. And the sword...
  4. Yep. The latest BB patch ... Mind you, Rangers (and animal companions) are still the worst class. Animal Companions have no endurance and go down like a sack of potatoes every encounter. This is grossly disappointing. If the animal companions are so effete, why the heck wasn't this addressed months ago? From what's being said here, they're a glaringly obvious Achilles' heel in a game that's largely focused on combat. What gives, Obsidian?
  5. Proper expansion packs should stand on their own story-wise, not merely add to the original campaign. If the e.p. is truly high in quality and content, I'm sure I'll be happy to overlook its failure to be its own story, though. That's one benefit of pursuing multiple runs through the campaign as a rule--new NPCs, quests, and swag keep the campaign fresh.
  6. "A man who speaks the truth will be chased out of nine villages."----Turkish proverb.
  7. They haven't yet developed the cultural capital, the ways and mores that created the manifold blessings of Western Civilization. I'd suggest reading Thomas Sowell's Conquests and Cultures for more information on their failure to evolve beyond authoritarianism and kleptocracy.
  8. The satisfaction of a difficult job well done.
  9. This is a reasonably safe assumption, given that gutlessness is the rule of the day in the West.
  10. If you're trying and dying to return the world to the 8th Century and revive the Caliphate, the future as most Westerners conceive it is anathema.
  11. Today's shooting was not something in any way new, but merely the continuation of a millennium year-old war initiated by Islam against the West. It's run hot and cold over the centuries, but Muslim envy/hate against a Christian West that's largely outperformed it since the Renaissance isn't going away, period. Separation is the only long term, viable answer. The only question is whether or not the West still has the wisdom and the guts to make the right call.
  12. Elanee the Stalker, Casavir the Broken Record (Old Owl Well, Old Owl Well, Old Owl Well), and Bishop the Silent (his content was cut, can't remember why). This is clear evidence that the writers need to: a] run this stuff by others outside of their own little echo chamber and b] allow enough time to do it right or just not bother. Romance is all fine and good, but if it's not up to the level of Nathyrra or Valen in Hordes of the Underdark, then I'd just as soon the writers concentrate their efforts elsewhere.
  13. Not safe for work or for the weak of stomach: http://t.co/2bx3TKqHDs The report from a bunch of Demotard staffers causes me no angst. The interview on December 11, 2014 with Pete Hoekstra was quite illuminating. http://www.wjr.com/page.php?page_id=821#
  14. Don't try to appeal to the casual gamers & hack 'n' slash crowd (God of War, anyone?) as did EAWare with their grossly ill-advised "This is the New Sh**" add for Dragon Age. This is primarily a game for grognards, so be honest about its throwback nature and fewer of the non-cRPG players who purchase PoE will shriek and sling poop on the forums.
  15. Crap, crap, and triple crap. Underperforming AIs are one of the primary banes of cRPGs. Release the thing in July of 2015 if you must, Obsidian, but please let us enjoy a solid AI with the game.
  16. Standard wolf tactic when engaging large prey or enemies such as moose or bears: bite from rear & fade while another wolf attacks the newly exposed rear or flank of the opponent turning to attack or defend against the original wolf. "Disengagement" is a fine description.
  17. No interactions, hmm? That largely defeats the purpose of including a pet as a bonus. If it's a bonus, it ought to do something--theft, scouting, minor bonus to ability/skill, comic relief, etc.
  18. A long-tailed weasel, mink, stoat, or pine marten would be my choice. They're not too large and are perpetually curious, hungry, and get into everything they can fit their skull through. They'd be great to have raising havoc at the stronghold, particularly if it was detailed in an otherwise important or dignified cut scene.
  19. Not at all surprising. Cops are neither devils nor angels, but most certainly are subject to the same mob/group-think mentality as are all but the most deliberative and conscientious individuals. It's obvious that the nut job should've been tasered and pepper sprayed into submission as they had the numbers to do so without undue difficulty or risk to themselves. Yet another reason not to put too much faith in any form of governmental authority. Edit: Didn't know about the knife. The #1 goal of every cop on a beat is to go home safe and sound at the end of their shift. That the nut was armed with a blade changes things a bit, but their actions still leave me feeling uneasy. This is yet another example of why a great many of us just don't trust the police all that much.
  20. The Q1 release is just fine and dandy for me. Let it be a St. Patrick's Day present for all of us backers who've been here since the beginning. It'll be a day of corned beef, cabbage, Guinness or single malt scotch, and farting around for hours trying to generate the perfect character with which to attempt our first run through PoE.
  21. Solution 3 rings true. We're already going to have our hands full micromanaging a party of 6, so anything that can be done to ensure that the animal companion is a boon rather than a burden will go a long way towards making the ranger a rewarding class to play. Barding might be a bit much to ask, but a collar capable of supporting magical enhancements can't be all that difficult to implement. As for customization, coloration and behavioral settings should be no less important to the look and feel of an animal companion than to an NPC or party member.
