Mico Selva, I'm sure that the usefulness of the abilities will be adjusted through playtesting. They're just sharing the concept behind the mechanics as of now. As for the non combat roles, I'm with you on hoping that a player class like a paladin will be reflected in dialog/interaction. I'm pretty confident that Obsidian will implement as much reactivity in those aspects as reasonable possible.

Makes me think of the fantastic mod Frostfall for Skyrim. Without appropriate gear, exposure to water and cold is gradually debilitating and can prove fatal.

Great work! I really like the Orlan designs.

Rarity of magic items?
Bloody Hypocrite replied to TrashMan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I didn't read the whole thread, so I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but I feel that a good part of the fun of rpgs is in the gear progression as well as character progression. While that progression doesn't have to be magical in nature, and it should be slower paced in time with slower leveling, I still think it's an important part of rpgs. Depending on the level of magic I'm not against low level enchantments being fairly common, as long the more robust enchantments are rare. -
From the name alone, I get a bit of an Islander vibe, like native Hawaiian or Maori. As for what they will actually be like, I'm pretty open. It would be kind of fun to have a race with marine mammal traits. Perhaps seal/walrus/narwhal aspects. Who knows? EDIT: I'm not talking furry-esque, but hints of a different lineage.

We aren't gonna solve the gender gap in one game. What can be shown is the great diversity of different cultures. History and anthropology ftw

The Drow society has always been considered evil and abhorrent. Wasn't it Buck Rodgers that proposed the preposterous idea of a matriarchy in the 70's? Only about 40 years ago.

It was a good visual cue when your party was getting battered. The iso view never looked that ridiculous, but I remember the sheer absurdity of the high town whores....

PS:T always struck me as weird in that regard. It was one of the first Infinity games that used 3d renders rather than illustrations for character portraits. I never really envisioned Annah as having a massive bust.

I don't need any reward for talking to npcs other than the enjoyment of conversation. I still want xp to be rewarded when appropriate.

8 companions: is it enough?
Bloody Hypocrite replied to RAE's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Let me just say that I've never come across a companion as in depth as Dak'kon in any other game. -
I'm staying out of that thread. But, I'm all for any size/shape/face/color of person in an Rpg. However, the other IE games do not represent this well, how often do you see an African American in an Rpg? You can't go as far as saying more diverse women and stop there, there's actually a lot of bias in rpgs. However, I'd rather not go there. Well, unless there's an America in said RPG, then seeing an african american wouldn't make much sense. That being said, they've already said that there will be various different ethnic groups, even amongst the different races.

8 companions: is it enough?
Bloody Hypocrite replied to RAE's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If the companions are anywhere as well done as the ones in PS:T, then I'm fine with eight. I'd imagine that they might add one or two in the expansion, and there are always mods to add a bit more variety.
