As the next update is approaching like a comet on a collision course with Eora, I'm starting to get content creep, since there's a number of things that may get revealed (most of them being excellent stuff, to be sure): Here are a few examples that may or may not be included or at least mentioned or hinted at: -More delicious PoE-in-the-making insights -Beta test build info -Beta testing instructions -How to update pledges to get a beta add-on -News on WL2 keys for those having backed at those tier levels -Hints about Obsidian's next Kickstarter project The list probably goes on and on... What are you looking forward to the most? In the good spirit of Sensuki, please regard this as the official August update camp out thread! EDIT: And Obsidian are probably getting update scope creep! Perhaps they'll divide all this up in several small August updates, but why not just be bombastic?

Wasteland 2 Keys
IndiraLightfoot replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Let me see if I get this straight: InXile told you to wait a few weeks, which triggered you to respond that you'll pirate their game, just like that, frankly and overtly? Also, you come here of all places, the Obsidian forums, and "encourage everyone" to retract their Kickstarter pledges? I don't know if you happen to be the eldest son of an Arabian sheikh, but all I know is this: -The guys working at InXile are great. They've made some of the best games I know, and as a KS pledger for them, I have already got plenty of quick and nice support -Obsidian, which you refer to as "nice and smart", have pretty tight relations with InXile. It should be no surprise, really. They even collaborate on Unity assets and solutions for PoE and T:ToN, So badmouthing one company and praise the other seems a tad confusing to me -I can tell you for a fact that neither of them condone piracy in one form or the other.- 71 replies

Backer Beta: Coming August 18th
IndiraLightfoot replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Ark: Perhaps I got it after the first read-through, after all? Josh also wrote this: Having read it again, as I understand it, it will be a separate (Steam?) beta product that you get to download, and later, when the game's released, it won't be associated with that one at all. -
Backer Beta: Coming August 18th
IndiraLightfoot replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I did read that in passing, but I took it to mean: "If you don't want to..." But thanks to you I now realize it's a stand-alone downloader for the beta. Interesting, and hopefully good news timewise, because then Obsidian will perhaps release it like 12:00 PDT, which would be 19:00 CET. -
Backer Beta: Coming August 18th
IndiraLightfoot replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
I know! I can't wait!! Although I fear, it may be slightly more than two weeks, especially in practical terms for Europeans. Steam perhaps want to put that update out like 19:00 PDT, and if that's correct, it will be able in Europe CET 4:00 AM the 19th. Anyone knows at what time it will be released on Steam? -
Beta Testing and You!
IndiraLightfoot replied to nipsen's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Alright! We're in the very month, the beta will be available, I'm so stoked and pumped that I get to try out this beta build, and I really hope it allows for quite a few levels with as much character creation options as possible (although Josh has already warned us about there being a bare-bone assortment of talents). -
Expect a mix of how F:NV (several factions interwoven) and MotB (plenty of difficult choices and cool consequences) handled different actions and choices, and that's quite a tall order already, expectations bordering on dreams!

On the D3 mockup: Either go with sketches a la scripted events (one male and one female per class and race - it's a bit of work, but clearly doable, or go for some neutral outline doll (extremely cheap version - not my preferred option). Like Zwiebelchen says - it would lend the game that right feel, IMHO.

This is actually much better! I don't care that much for all the items being pressed along the walls of the UI paper-doll box, I prefer the Diablo 3-style in this case, definitely. In that way, we would get rid of the 3d model entirely, which if it fidgets and idle-moves, just distract from the invo business I'm doing atm.

BIG HEAD mode is in

Overflowing with money.

As one of those who didn't wish for a stronghold รก la NWN2, that huge cash flow worries me. What happens to us that won't invest in walls, trades, guards and crops? We will probably be buying lots of expensive items in shops (which I don't want to do). Quite the dilemma. Hmm... -

Karranthain: I love piecing together special items. I have another example of this, that's not at all in the IE games tradition, and that's TitanQuest's recipes for legendary/epic items. For some reason, I really enjoyed "the grinding" and the RNG of getting those. For an ARPG, that system is still one of the best. I really hope Grim Dawn follows suit in that regard. I don't want any convoluted epic item crafting, just a system with a nice feel to it. -

For a change, I'd love to see shops not selling any good magical items at all. In plenty of CRPGs, the first, second or third merchant you stumble upon, suddenly have some fantastical items for sale (meant for like 5-10 levels up those of your party), and also with astronomical price tags. I'd like to get those items by playing the game, not shop around for them at a few hub vendors. -

Yeah. You're right of course. There are a few personal experiences, often horrific ones or extremely context-specific ones, which can't really be conveyed truly unless you've been there. I have the greatest respect for that. I meant my comment for more general social categories (which most likely aren't that general when you scratch away the surface, after all). -

I hope you aren't succumbing to "It takes one to know one"-arguments, because that would be essentialist IMHO. -
The brigandine is actually ma favourite too so far. And yes, I reckon, you have found the first Aumauan in-game. Congratz! To be more informative: I like the brigandine, since it comes across as a bit worn and just realistical - and it looks good too. As for the scale armour, I still wish their metal plating didn't reflect light as much. Of course, new armours do that, and they probably polished the bejeebers out of them, but I'd love to see more grimy and dull metal plates on armour.

Chilloutman: All that applies to Pewdiepie as well (I like him), and you, and all males and females and whatever genders too. Just look at history, look at society now. No need to zero in on girls specifically. I can say lots of critical things about the bizarre advatanges of looks, or nepotism, or what not, but that's another story. -

"You, sir, just took quite a brucing!" Monte and Bruce are sometimes like Spy vs Spy in Mad Magazine. Absolutely fantastic!
