Steam now has Paywall mods
So... will this mean they will have mod sales? I think it will work itself out just like the indie market. Only some of the modders will be really successful at it; others will give up and return to the free modding community.

Huge problem. "Outing" Aloth in epilogue
A similar thing happened with Weeping Mother; I never actually added her to my party, yet the epilogue gave details that assumed I had.

My biggest complaint about Pillars of Eternity? I miss the Magic Missile.
I'm curious, did anybody find a need to swap out spell books for a Wizard character? There didn't seem to be a burning need to use more than the four spell slots per level they provided. In fact, for several spell levels just one or two spells were sufficient. But perhaps it was just my play style.

Can't get over how good POE is & why Bioware abandoned this style of gameplay.
I suspect the term "starting to show its age" is an invention of marketeers trying to start a new gaming fashion trend. "Hey, this engine is really starting to show its age. Why not buy our new, much more expensive engine with all the stunning graphic widgets and doodads? It's all the rage in the console market."

Are bows gimped?
Not sure, but my war bow-wielding rogue did max damage in the party. Presumably that's mainly a result of the initial sneak attack.

Review: A good step in the right direction but not yet a Baldur's Gate successor
I do know that Baldur's Game is not the ultimate representation of this niche market; it had many flaws of its own. I don't think I've ever played a game that was perfect, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it.

The world map seems small, but is the game just as small?
I think the world map for BG had just under 50 area locations; apparently the PoE world map has ~30. So in that sense it's smaller.

What's on the idiot box Part 4 (or something)
The current season of Vikings is the best so far.

I keep looking for a reason to craft something... and failing.
To me, something that might have made crafting more fun would be summonables. I.e. create a potion or scroll that can summon a temporary ally for a fight.

I keep looking for a reason to craft something... and failing.
I suspect it was because they essentially eliminated XP for combat. I do wish they would have thrown in a few more event-triggered combats though, particularly when traveling between maps.

How do you rate PoE
At present, the weighted mean score is 4.1. I gave it a 4/5, but some fine tuning can easily push it to a 5. If we were just grading on enjoyment, I'd have chosen 5.

State of the game/1.05 patch hopes
If you're planning to do more than one playthrough then there is little reason to wait. It's quite playable now, so you can satisfy your initial urge, then wait for a future well-patched release for the follow-on.

I keep looking for a reason to craft something... and failing.
Then FFS they should just get rid of it. Wow, phew, this was an outburst... sorry... But it's true. Why does every game developer feel like an enchanting/crafting system is mandatory in a modern game release? It's totally not. Crafting is cool in sandbox games, but this is a cRPG. There's no reason why we need crafting; just get rid of it. It destroys the fun of discovering new unique magic items anyway ("Wooohooo, a magic item ... errr ... never mind, it got the same enchants as my old item.") I never understood why games like The Witcher had a crafting system. The answer is pretty simple; because some players really like it. The same is true for in-game houses, or romances. It's there to appeal to a portion of the player base. The fact that you don't like it doesn't really matter; it didn't stop you from buying or playing the game, and it is easy to ignore. If it does encourage more people to buy the game or increase their enjoyment, then it's a win from the developer's standpoint. As for crafting in The Witcher, that was one of those rare games where I actually felt like I needed crafting. It proved highly beneficial during the toughest fights.

How many non-backer Godlikes are in the game ?
"What do you mean I can't have a god-like? You said I could design my own NPC. I'm a backer and I paid for it. Grr... they'll hear about this in the boards all right... dirty lying sneaking cheats."

Thank you all for making this game and rekindling my childhood!
Thanks for not starting yet another whiney thread complaining over this or that minor detail. Yes I too enjoyed my play through and will be most pleased when we get the expansion, and hopefully a sequel.

What ending did you choose?
I chose Hylea because my character felt sympathetic toward the suffering parents. The Galawain option was intriguing though: would that mean there would be fewer fractured souls in the future? I couldn't tell if that would be the case.

Sabre > Battle axe all day every day
A very sensible suggestion. Less weapons are affected that way, otherwise you'd risk creating new imbalances. This suggestion is also historically accurate as well. The Sabre came into its own as a cavalry weapon because the curved blade works well with the draw cut, whereas the battle ax was typically used with the shield (see Battle of Hastings).

The Funny Things thread
- thank you!
Thank you for creating this game. I found it an enjoyable experience, with some interesting plot twists and turns. Play-wise, it had a lot of nice features; I particularly liked the rest system, the Marshal's bounty approach to combat-only quests, fast and slow modes, area looting, crafting, and the dual damage track. The epilogue summary was a nice touch. The characters all made enjoyable company, albeit less banterous than I would have liked, and the main villain was well thought out.- The Funny Things thread
That ('f') is hilarious! Thanks for the laugh.- Easter Eggs (and other secrets?)
Perhaps there's an easter egg or two hidden among the backer NPC vignettes?- Quick question: does the main quest end the game?
Yep it wrapped up for me at level 11, but then I wasn't doing a completionist play-through. (It is a nice touch that they remind you of what you left unfinished.)- Endless Paths Level 7...why?
Yes, I was expecting something interesting to happen when I enabled the forges. It's nice to know they do something, even if I only found out by reading comments from other players. - thank you!
