Sounds like a run of the mill "mature" female voice. Nothing to start a crusade over.- 24 replies

Grow up man, someone can enjoy a multitude of game genres. It's a lot easier to stereotype though isn't it? Come back when your ready for an adult discussion. I never said a single thing about changing this game. Yeah someone can, but it seems you burned out on this genre. You never said a single thing about changing the game, and yet you go on about how burned out you are on everything PE is striving to be? I'm not too worried about Obsidian making design decisions to account for you fatigued lot, which may in turn make it worse for me; I'm more worried about seeing people talk about how PE didn't live up to expectations, potentially ****ting on Obsidian, when such opinions may be coming from individuals in your state.

Monks in Project Eternity
Boof replied to TheDogProfessor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
What's all this talk of Asia and Shaolin and ninjas... For people that claim to be fans of fantasy how are you lacking in imagination to realize a group of people that dedicate themselves to fighting unarmed, and everything else that comes with being a monk - in a brand new fantasy setting - doesn't have to have a damn thing to do with anything Asian. -
Stealing Items

Chose Elder Scrolls not for the mechanics of it, but because there was flexibility for failing. In IE games it was either succeed or reload. -

What an unnecessarily tedious system. -

I don't want too much clutter, having good lively ambient sounds in the background is good enough. "If your parents don't buy you a pointy stick they don't love you!" -
Suicide by adventurer

I wouldn't mind seeing some level of level scaling when it comes to these sort of encounters, or at least a progression, though it would make less sense for street thugs wanting your money to be progressing in power and equipment and more so for something like bounty hunters. Really did like encountering tougher and tougher bounty hunters in these sorts of games (think BG1 had it and maybe another). -
Never heard of it. What is it? Wait, where am I?

Go easy on the jargon

New players don't have to know everything right away, they will learn as they play. I didn't know a lick of DnD when I first played Baldur's Gate, and discovering what things were or meant over time made the experience that much more satisfying. -
Make sure you continue the playthrough into Mask of the Betrayer, the game is incomplete without it and it's really good. I, myself have never actually played Planescape. Not being able to play as a female has usually deterred me but I know I'm missing out, so I plan on giving it a try soon. I recently played through nwn2 again, but lost interest very early into motb. Not sure why, though getting my ass kicked by random tavern thugs after everything I went through in nwn2 did put me off.

Mega Dungeon Level Size
Boof replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Just here to say that Watcher's Keep was probably my favourite dungeon of all the IE games. Really well done. The levels don't have to be huge, but each had its own little twist or sub story and always leading toward the grand overarching purpose. -
Dialog, best seen and not heard?
Boof replied to Bhazor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
BG and other IE games style. Voice act small parts of dialogue and major encounters. -
Update sounds good but I have a little request. You say you will not get any less experience talking/sneaking/whatever your way out of things than the person that takes the combat route, and will level up just as fast. The problem here is, to me, it's a little lame to say, get 1000 experience for killing 10 bandits or get 1000 experience for talking/sneaking your way out of what should've most likely been a combat encounter. How it should be balanced out is that certain encounters yield better experience for certain characters/playstyles. So if you snuck around the bandit camp you would get less experience than the one that chose to fight. But later on you may get more experience out of a different sort of encounter than the fighter type might. I hope that makes sense. Mix it up! Don't just dish out the same reward for everything.

You had options like that in some of the older games where you tell an npc to skip right to the point. Guess having something like that wouldn't hurt.

Whatever themes fit in well with the story they're trying to tell. Would hate to see themes forced into the game because of forum support.

Maybe it's been mentioned and maybe it's already planned, but wanted to chime in to say that the game should be balanced for 6 party members, where experience gained would be split between the six. This mechanic added a lot of replayability to the older games, where I would play through with full parties for the variety of tactical and story elements, but also where I would play solo for the challange (at first) but eventually building an obscene powerhouse of a character. I have a lot of faith you guys will do right by this project and will remember the little (and big) things that made your previous games such huge successes (For example, don't skimp on your audio and music, put thought into it like before. So many games nowdays do this as an afterthought). The stretch goals you guys put up were quite underwhelming but I'm sure part of it you guys being overwhelmed by the support.
