Pushing the release date forward
Bryy replied to drizzan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
And to be quite honest, this is how a dev cycle works. We were just "lucky" enough to be able to see the cogs in motion. This does not make them better or worse than any other dev team. True that. Most big publisher-made games don't even give such a precise estimate of their release, simply going with "look for it, 2015!". Then, when they get closer, things end up getting more precise, and sometimes STILL get pushed back, as in "well, we thought it'd be December of 2015 at the latest, but it turns out it's going to be like February of 2016, so..." So, yeah... this whole "pushed back" thing gets an unnecessarily assumptive negative connotation. As if the game was somehow inherently supposed to be finished by April of this year, rather than simply being an educated guess based on the limited empirical knowledge of development time at the time it was made, then a more accurate one being made later on that's closer to the actual amount of time it'll take to do what is objectively required to complete the game's production (which just so happens to be later than the initial estimate). It sounds like they want to make this the biggest Kickstarter game yet, so I don't blame them. -

Spent most of the day building an underground bunker in Terrerier. Diving into Wolf Episode II now.

Good thing they've spent nowhere near the price of a AAA game. Or cost the same either. SR:R is $20 and W2 is going to be $25 (I believe) on release. Don't get me wrong I'm not expecting a AAA game, I backed the amount I did because of past games that are still my favourite (I replayed NWM and IWD last year... again) and I'm looking forward to a rich story, in depth magics and a desire to lead a group of adventurers on a mighty quest. I'm basing how this game was sold to me on Kickstarter as a comparison to those games. SRR and W2 have let me down so far and those games I only backed minimal amounts because I was always worried they wouldn't be great. Because of how they turned out/are currently I understand is concerns and I do worry, I backed a decent amount for a game that won't be AAA in terms of gameplay, graphics etc.. but I do hope gameplay wise it is as good as it can be and that the story and the world itself are worth it and not some 8 hour stomp through.... Also W2 is the same as a AAA priced game ( £34.99 on Steam, I bought CoD Ghosts for £29.99 ) Oh. You meant the price at market. I thought you meant that AAA games were all made for $10-$20k. Even in that case, people need to eat. Rent needs to be paid. You price items at what you think would net you a profit, or at least break even. And especially for Kickstarter games, where they already are giving away a boatload of free product. We're not Obsidian's accountants. We're not any of these game companies accountants. The idea that only "AAA games" need to be/should be priced high is a fallacy. $70 games are $70 for a reason. $500 iPads are $500 for a reason. These prices are not arbitrarily slapped on the product by some evil, shadowy suit in a dark room.

New Kickstarter incoming

We know, still it's fun to dream about, right? It isn't a board meeting Well, I mean, it's already an RPG, too. Yup, one of my favourites too. Still, the idea of transforming it into isometric RPG is intriguing (least to say). If only because I do not recall being terrified by any isometric horror. "Stasis" comes to mind, but first of all it's not an RPG. Also I have yet to try it. Hmm... maybe I'll even download the demo right now. The Kickstarter, I'm assuming, would not be a licensed property. Say they were given the Gravity Falls license. They'd have money from Disney. -
Please port to PS4.

... what? Who is telling you this crap? -
And some people would say that you just summed up everything that is wrong with the gaming industry: You look at a game, and before playing it, wonder who will patch it, as you are by now expecting a certain amount of bugs in any and every product. This is a very, very special case and context, though.

Kingdoms of Amalur is far better than its demo. Still not a very solid game, but as an RPG, it actually is pretty decent.

Breached $600k. Am happy. Now on to... PERFORMANCE MOTION CAPTURE!

Bah, people like you killed Rainbow Six! Heh, I am correct then. Not too sure on it actually affecting their income that much, myself. No, you're not. I back projects I want to back. If I didn't want to support Kingdom, I'd give less of a carp about the female stretch goal. Same with Mighty No. 9 and the console ports. Not because I don't care if they succeed or not, but my money is not going to go towards things I'm willy-nilly about if I have more important things to purchase. It just so happens that right now is Con Season Prep for me, so I would be willing to sacrifice Kingdom Come in order to do other, more important things. I siimply do not have the resources to be pitching in to every project that I would like to right now.

playing "evil"
Bryy replied to Michael_Galt's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Yeah, in my experience, when people say they want to play evil, they really are just looking for ways to complain about not having enough "choice". Inexperienced then I guess. Or more likely selective reading. Wow, what the heck did I say to provoke that response? Did I dare bring up the idea that gamers can be fickle? -

Obsidian doesn't own that IP. -

I loved Skyrim's reaction after you killed Alduin. "Yeah, that's cool, I guess..." -
What drove you to kill ol' Rags? Dishonoured is definitely one of the best new IP's of last gen and will probably end up being a much better Thief game than the new Thief reboot. One of the few games I've bothered to put the time into in order to Platinum along with Dark Souls. DLC is great but Billie Lurk suffers from being tacked on. She should have been featured in the main game since one DLC is far too short to give a ****. She was in a house being freaky so I backstabbed her to avoid a possible jump scare.

Banner Saga: 4th playthrough. Amalur: 1st. Also, I feel like I did something wrong by killing Granny Rags is some random house at the very beginning of the game?

This is literally factually untrue. But to each their own. -
There's no reason why you'd want to, and there are reasons why you shouldn't be able i.e. the way they've implemented pathing. That's like saying there's no reason for fish to fly because they are meant to swim. They had a discussion on movement, they made a choice, I, the individual customer, didn't like it. They were not forced via engine to use that movement mechanic. It seriously isn't, it's more like wanting to eat soup with chopsticks. There's a difference between disgreeing with a design choice and saying there's no reason for something. There's plenty of reasons for why they made that decision, technical limitations aren't a requirement to being a reason. Did you read the part of my post where I said it was my personal opinion?
