  1. This. Also, I did not realize that about Schafer. That explains a lot, Lol. For some reason, that makes him more the man in my mind. Bad management skills in a company president are nothing to admire or aspire to. Hey, I didn't say I wanted to be him. Maybe be his buddy. :D Lol. More seriously, he should maybe pass all the budgeteering on to someone else. You do realize that, as a project leader, he needs to set the budget for his project, right? Tim Shafer isn't just day-dreaming all day. Neither are Josh or Chris, or any other dev. Let's not fall into the trap of "Creatives don't need to have business skills". ALL the best rock stars are savy businessmen. Because it is a business. But I agree that Shafer needs a leash. The DFA fiasco was swept under the rug so hard.

  3. Yeah, expecting a AAA game or a game that magically Saves The Industry from Kickstarter is folly. Just enjoy them. It is as simple as that.
  4. There's this unspoken myth that the feature alone will corrupt the system. Multiplayer. Acheevs. Feedback. And it's completely, 100% wrong. It's all about how it is executed.
  5. You forgot "achievements". It's all meaningless without "achievements". Without achievements you're just sitting in front of your computer pushing buttons. Where's the fun in that? It's called trolling. Yes, because nobody in their right mind would ever want console versions or MP in the future. I think MP is gonna be the first thing modded in.
  6. Dear god, I hope not. Leave the handholding to MMOs. Borderlands had a fantastic way of telling you the quests difficulty that worked in the context of the game.
  7. Did you just imply Stargate is better than Farscape? I want to hear this justification. They're both campy as all hell. I just like stargate more. Although haven't finished farscape, almost though. Farscape is literally more creative than Stargate ever was. Stargate started the idea that sci-fi is just flashy explosions and funny looking aliens. There's a reason why Stargate fans hated Universe. I'm not trying to sound like a huge fanboy here (even though I am sounding like one regardless, but I'm indifferent one both shows), but to say Stargate is even in the same league as Farscape is ridiculous. Keep in mind I'm not saying you can't have your opinion.
  8. Like EA? By the way, death threats as jokes are never funny.

  10. If I had to boil down all my frustrations with IE games and their relatives to two, I'd say "lack of transparency" and "lazy design masquerading as challenge." By "lack of transparency" I mean things like the way Athkatla dumps all the mid-game quests on you at once, with no indication – direct or implicit – of how hard they are. My first-ever quest in my first-ever attempt at BG2 was the Firkraag one, and that did not go well. I just kept feeling I was doing it wrong, when actually I was doing the wrong quest. By "lazy design masquerading as challenge" I mean things like hitpoint bloat, filler combat, and puzzles based on finding that one doodad/person/pixel by trial and error. One of my pet peeves is the hidden door – i.e., an area transition that your character would easily see but you can't because it's partly occluded by something, so you keep wandering around the map like an idiot not being able to progress. This was surprisingly common in isometric games with a fixed camera! This is essentially what I was going to write. There are markets within markets. Amazing answer, btw.
  11. Or it was a joke. I highly doubt that the devs are really concerned with being that vindictive or petty towards their target audience.
  12. LotR is a "polite society compatible" re-telling of the original Germanic fairy tales, myths, and legends. Not really. It's a retelling of World War I.
  13. Well, they did put guns in Eternity, so I guess I should have thought about my actions more better.
  14. To be fair, its existence as an option is hilarious. That's the joke. The act of voting for it isn't really a joke at all. Where's the joke? "Lolz, they put Call of Duty on this poll, which was really funny. But now, I'm gonna vote for that instead of what I really want PoE to be like, so as to give the poll absolutely no useful function. LOLZ!" I pretty much think at this point that they know what game they are making. The poll is for hype.
  15. I think the AH is a good idea. Creating a party at the beginning just leads to frustration down the line.
  16. I'll bite. LoTR is possibly the most sterile fantasy movie in existence. It has 100% no creativity and 100% no soul of its own.
  17. Full voice over can really add a lot to a game if done correctly, just like some audio books are really, really good. Please don't equate liking voice over to not being able to read. It doesn't make you look any smarter.
