PoE Embargo ends March 23rd, Backers wait for the 26th?
they are press copies. they were sent for review purposses and its the same thing that happens with every game. the reviewers get their filthy hands on it first anyway, one thing that can offer a clue as to the confidence the developers/publishers have on their game is when they allow reviews to come out. if it is before the release date, they are confident that they nailed it if it is on release day, they are not so sure if it is after release (like a day or 2), then they know they did something wrong and want to cash in before the sh...torm

What will be your first player character?
i think i ll start with a human or godlike rogue a true neutral cynical guy, who does not take anything seriously and cares only for what is convenient for him... but who avoids violence if possible

Narration mixed with dialogue
teknoman2 replied to jackyjackyjackychan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Well since the narration is mixed with dialogue that isn't really the case. You can't distinguish it from dialogue without reading it in the first place. the naration is about what the npc looks like and what he does while he talks to you, not what you do while you talk to him if that is your concern.

Pickpocketing
gothic had pickpocketing that worked through dialogue. if you had the skill, you had a dialogue option to pilfer something from whoever it was you were talking to. it's not impossible that it will be the same thing here too. instead of clicking on someone to steal from him, do it through a conversation option

Want to Pre-Order but WHERE?
gog uses a different install process so the patches need to be configured for their installer before you can use them. the same more or less goes for steam too, but the process is automatic there while on gog you have to wait for the patch to be configured and uploaded on the site and then grab it manualy

We need a bunch of non-backers buying this
teknoman2 replied to Death Machine Miyagi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)im glad i backed this, DOS and TToN (i also got WL2 for free with that last one) 4 games for the price of 2 and the 2 that i played so far have more "game" in them than all AAA of the last 10 years (that were focused on cinematic experience), with the other 2 expected to be as good i would recomend to everyone i know to buy it as i would with the rest... if i knew anyone who did not already put his money on the ks for all of them

End-game Critical path too easy?
This would make the final boss way too easy. Do you remember BG1? How would you rank Serevok in terms of difficulty? Because he was 16th level. In other words, he was twice a level capped party's level. Plus he had allies, plus his gear was cheese (his armor was +5 full plate and gave him 90% magic resistance) Yet BG1's final encounter was 'just right' challenge-wise IMO. Besides, there's nothing wrong with giving crit-path minimalists what they deserve in the end: A Hard time. He really has 90% Magic resistance? Are you saying that when I trapped him in a Otiluke's Resilient Sphere to deal with the trash first I was super lucky? No, Otiluke's Resilient sphere was not affected by magic resist to my knowledge, since it could be cast on everything. It was neither an offensive or debuff, therefor not affected by said resist and saves... But i could be wrong the sphere is considered a buff actualy so resistances and defenses do not apply to it, making it perfect for puting an enemy (usualy the strongest) out of the fight for a period of time while you deal with the rest

End-game Critical path too easy?
Not true. You can easily get the money without doing any side quests. Steal from a lot of people, Kill that gang of jerks in the sewer under the temple, loot all the fools who attack you in athkatla while transitioning between areas, and recruit people; take their stuff and sell it. Once done you will have enough gold to move on to chapter 3. there may be many ways to get the money, but the premise is what counts. you do not do the quests just because they are there, they serve a function within the story (doing them or not is a different matter)

End-game Critical path too easy?
BG2 did the side quests right. they were not just filler to prolong the game, but were an integral part of the game's story. you needed a lot of money for the main quest, so you had to do side quests to get them and you had to buy gear along the way, so you had to do even more to gather the funds you needed. and of course each side quest had a story behind it that had at least a minor impact on the main story

End-game Critical path too easy?
the final boss (if there even is one) will be lv10 if you are llv9 or less, lv11 if you are lv10, lv12 if you are lv11 and lv13 if you are lv12. a simple solution to a simple problem

Please introduce auto slow-mode option
the reason autopause is there, is because it allows you to keep track of the situation when specific events occur. the slow mode is just that: "a mode" that you can toggle on or off and you only need to do it once... there is no reason to turn it on and off every few seconds

Question about being caught stealing in the BB
if nobody sees you nothing happens. if you keep stealing i guess you may end up having to fight guards and the "thief" reputation you will have will make social interaction hard

New female elf portrait
i actually fail to see the resemblance the outer sides of the eyes are smaller for the PoE elf and the eyes are of a different color, the nose is completely different and so is the chin and ears. also the PoE elf has more pronounced cheekbones, making the face a bit wider so with the exception of the pose, they look completely different

Petition : Make Looting functions optional.
i think it's obvious that the effect is there to indicate the presence of loot. so it is also obvious that once the loot has been taken the effect will go away

Petition : Make Looting functions optional.
I honestly didn't know it was even an issue for someone. Maybe it's been kept mostly to the technical section which I really don't visit that much. Weak argument. That's what the tab key is for, it highlights containers. No, I'm not about nostalgia at all. I want improved gameplay and I don't think area loot counts as an improvement. Sources of immersion are subjective, because immersion is personal. Good writing and story give some people more immersion than graphics, for others it's the opposite, etc. So, judging people by what they consider to be breaking their immersion leads nowhere. I agree, but individual loot containers are not a feature that I see for the first time. I think they create a whole lot of problems while solving none. the tab key for highlighting was there in BG2 too, but there were often times when an enemy body was in such a position that you simply could not click on it i don't know about you, but i don't see how individual body loot improves gameplay in any way compared to area loot (because, let's not forget, that the area loot is about dead enemies not chests and other containers) this is why i said that they should make certain features optional, with a tracking to see who of those who asked for it managed to play the whole game with it on and who turned it off halfway through. i bet most would turn it off after 2 or 3 times because it would become annoying

I wasn't aware of anyone asking for this feature. One of the things I find amusing about it is how nobody seems to have had any trouble with having to check every loot container seconds until Obsidian announced they would put area loot in as a feature. Then they do that and suddenly we learn that this has been a burden for some people. Hey, I've always been complaining about that! (Just not on forums... I don't think people need any more complaining here.) Do I now get a cookie? Not from me. I'll be interested to know how you'll like it in the game. I like area looting in Pillars of Eternity. Now I get to spend not 6 seconds looting, but perhaps 2. That's 4 seconds saved. 4 seconds that go to adventuring. That sounds awesome to me. dont forget the mouse clicks. to loot 4 bodies one by one, you need a minimum of 8 mouse clicks. with area loot you can do it in 2. and if the bodies were 10? you would save yourself 18 clicks and the time it takes to move from one to the other. well, since the inventory is practically unlimited, getting all loot automatically would be even better what can i say? for me immersion comes from the story, characters and overall atmosphere of the game, not by having (or not) certain mechanics (especially if they are needlesly repetitive... "ritual without purpose is wasted effort" as the old witch said in PST) also i find the idea that area looting detracts from the looting proccess it's value absurd. this game follows in BG and IWD footsteps (not diablo's) and all in all 90% of the loot from bodies was junk in these games. unlike diablo, there was no RNG to give you hope that the random imp you just killed will drop a powerful unique weapon nor did anyone expected it to happen. looting was not a lottery in BG, dead enemies had the loot you would expect like some gold, a weapon, ammo, armor or potions and the same goes for WL2 and PoE now.

Then they do that and suddenly we learn that this has been a burden for some people. if you go to the technical section there was a topic about implementing area loot for a long time. area loot is better than single corpse loot, mostly because it spares you the trouble of pixel hunting for individual enemy bodies (that may be hidden behind something and you cant see them) what bothers me is when the developers decide to use something superior and others go "NO BECAUSE MUH NOSTALGIA" (and that behavior annoys me even more when people think that a problem was actualy a feature and dont want it changed). what also bothers me, is when people start asking for features without thinking of the implications because "MUH IMMERSION". features that may look cool the first time you see them, may look nice and give a realistic vibe the second and third time, but will inevitably become a bother that everyone wishes was not there (even those who demanded them)

Petition : Make Looting functions optional.
to tell the truth i prefer the ME looting system. automatically get all items from an enemy the moment he dies without having to go around searching corpses seriously, they add a system that spares you the chore of pixelhunting for loot and you feel like it makes the game worse? when some people ask for certain features, i wish the developers could link the game to the forum accounts and make the feature optional, to see how many would actually keep it on for the entire game or would just toggle it off halfway through because it becomes bothersome
