  1. there is no such thing as inherently too long or too short. a game is either as long as it has to be in order to fulfil it's purpose or it is not.
  2. the trolls are fat in this thread
  3. i dont think its a bug or a bad thing in any way to find a quest related item before getting the quest. it would be far worse if you had cleared a cave of it's monsters, then learn that a guy went to that cave and go back to find him killed by the monsters you had already killed. if you have killed the monsterss before he went there, how did the monsters kill him? so finding his dead body in the cave even if you dont have the quest makes more sense. if you have to get an item of his back, it can be flagged as quest item so you wont sell it
  4. that expansion was a really sad story for me. a certain part of it was unplayable for technical reasons, despite my PC being far superior to the best hardware available at the time the game was made. for some reason i had rubberbanding... in a single player game!
  5. i killed Bracus REX in D:OS. tough fight but fun
  6. i was following all the fighting on youtube about "the order 1886" and i decided (since i have not and do not intend to buy a console) to watch a playthrough to see what the fuss was all about. the greatest complaint about the game i ve heard was the length, but that is not actually the problem there. it's the bad management of the length that kills it. by making an estimate, the game to reach it's full potential as a story driven experience, needed 7 hours of neatly packed content (it could easily get a 8 or 9/10 in that case). unfortunatelly, the developers made a bit more than 4 hours of actual content and diluted it with about 2 hours of filler. by adding to that mixture all the hype, you get a HUGE let down as a result. it's not really about the length, or the quality of the gameplay, or the abysmal QTEs... it's that everyone can see the exorbitant amount of wasted potential; the game it could have been, the game it was advertized to be and in the end the game it did not become. it is the classic situation when the developer has a rough diamond and instead of cutting and polishing it, he puts it asside and after 5 years of work he delivers a fake made of glass. and frankly, people are just fed up with that and decided its time to make an example out of someone
  7. most of the times im glad it has an ending at all, because its very common for anime to leave you hangin at the end
  8. i dont agree for having to interact with certain characters for the upgrades of the stronghold. i found it unecessarilly tedious in NWN2, so opening a menu and choosing the upgrade is better for me. however i do agree that when merchants or other npcs come around you should be able to interact with them directly instead of through a menu. when that merchant comes to visit, you should be able to just buy the special item from the menu if you want, but you should also be able to meet him and buy or sell more common items just like with any other merchant
  9. by the way, did anyone else get's an EVOLVE vibe from the way wurms grow into drakes and later dragons?
  10. i called it back in update 70 when they showed some screenshots that one of then was shouting DRAGON FIGHT AREA
  11. yes, but unlike DnD the quality does not make them inherently magical, especially on the "what can be killed by this" department. a normal silver sword with certain enchantments may be more convenient to have equiped than a Superb steel sword with other enchantments (especially if you deal with enemies weak against silver), unlike the DnD where the +2 is better than the +1 regardless of circumstances
  12. just a reminder: there are no +1 +2 +3 items in PoE. there are items made from different materials that have different properties. some have enchantments, some not and all these enchantments can be upgraded or modified ie you find a darksteel longsword that gives a bonus of 1 to might. you can also craft a darksteel longsword and use some item to enchant it with +1 might. and in both cases you can add another enchantment that gives +1 to dexterity
  13. i got the new thief on a steam sale a few months back and i just installed it. since it is compatible with mantle i decided to give it a go to see if there is any substantial difference with Dx11. good thing it has a benchmark and i dont have to rely on gameplay that may vary the results. 1080p all settings at max, overall the difference was about 3fps on average in mantle's favor, however it felt much more smooth with mantle because the range of fps with mantle was from 26 to 34, while with Dx11 it was jumping between 15 and 34 now that i now what api runst it smoother i ll start the game itself
  14. most people i know disliked the mc of aldnoah. i on the other hand like him. he's a rare case of level headed character that actualy uses his brain and does not let his emotions drag him into making rash decisions in the spur of the moment on the rest it has good visuals, good pacing with a good balance between dialogue and action, no cumbersome exposition or complete lack of it (they use the time of episodes in a smart way to give background info through visuals and sound along with concise dialogue instead of long speeches), i have not seen any plot holes so far and i like the story. now if you get to dig up every little detail you will find flaws, it is inevitable, but overall it's a well made series
  15. they said the game will be mod-able with a mod friendly file structure as much as possible. they never said they will give us an sdk a simple type of moding would be the use of custom portraits. they wont include photoshop to help you make the portraits, but if you can make them, you can just put them in a folder and they will be available for in game use
  16. Nah. I prefer games that are limited in their experience and do the experience very well. Not every game has to be Skyrim. I do not dislike Skyrim but I would rather not every game be like that. i did not like skyrim! the only other TES i played was morrowind, that was WAY better from an rpg perspective and that was already lacking. the main problem with games that have too much content is that there is no time to make most of it "quality content". if you have 1000 quests in your game, on how many of them can you actually work to make them relevant? 50, 60, 100? and that if you have a very large and experienced team with a lot of time on their hands. the rest will just be pointless filler and overall the game lacks reactivity. you simply cant make the world react to the player's actions over the course of 1000 quests, and what you can do for the few relevant is limited since you waste your time to design 1000 so instead of having 900 pointless quests and 100 decent, i prefer it if they spend their time to make just 100 quests but make them right
  17. i prefer the no romance decision. in most games i followed the romance path with a companion just because it was there (almost every RPG after BG2) or just because the game railroaded me into a sex scene just before the final battle (mass effect) and i just had to choose who i wanted featured in the scene. the whole thing felt fake and the intentions of the script writers were blatantly obvious the only game i can think of that had a natural progression in a romantic relationship (if you wanted to start one at all) was alpha protocol, where npcs did not forcefully flirt with you to push you into: obligatory sex scene, select your partner. in that game i started relationship without trying to or even noticing i was moving in that direction, and im sure one different answer at some point could have prevented the entire romance part of the game from ever playing out.
  18. i play both single and multi depending on the mood
  19. why are people today so against having quests that can fail?
  20. to make it clear you have health and endurance in combat you mostly lose endurance and can heal only endurance except for very few cases if your endurance goes to 0 you fall unconscious all endurance regenerates after the battle health does not regenerate unless you rest if you lose all health you are maimed. you take a big penalty to all your stats and go around at 1hp if you lose that 1hp before you rest you die if you have chosen the apropriate option, you die the first time your hp goes to 0 and there is no maim there is no resurection magic so when you die you die for good and must load a save if you want to keep the dead character alive unless you have activated the game mode that does not allow you to save or load and has only 1 autosave
  21. not everything needs a time limit and it doesnt need to be too strict. an example would be a quest in Gothic 3. a guy says "you should go to town and speak to our leader within 2 days or we will consider you an enemy". the town is a 5 minutes walk from there (maybe 1 in game hour). it gives a very generous timeframe there can also be a hybrid version. you accept a quest and can go do it whenever you want, but as soon as you enter the quest map you cant leave without failing the quest
  22. the first time i played BG2 i rested a total of 40 hours in the dungeon of Irenicus. did he really fought against the shadow thieves for 40 hours straight before the cowled wizards came along?
  23. The problems of the PC master race
  24. as i said, time sensitive stuff is the key. if someone tells you "bring this medicine to that village to stop a disease", he should not mean "go around for a month or 2 and the disease will wait for you to go cure it". if you take more than a certain amount of time to get there, everyone should be dead when you do. quests like the "acorns of the dryads" or the search of Umar hills in BG2 have no urgency. nothing is at stake so whenever you get around the area you do them. a quest like De'Arnise Hold, should have some penalty for taking too long. the trolls will not wait in the hold for a month for you to go there or for you to go back and forth to Athkatla to rest at an inn or buy supplies. they will kill everyone, loot the place and be on their way.
  25. from what i can tell, the area of the game is close to the equator on the southern hemisphere (an analogy would be somewhere around central brazil in our world) so probably not, unless they have areas on top of a very high mountain
