was he directly involved in BE or were they just using his name for the title? something like Clive Barker's Jericho, that had nothing to do with Clive Barker besides using his books for inspiration

Character Race
teknoman2 replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Human or Human-Godlike, depending on what the godlikes are like. as for short stuff, i make one when i play something like IWD where i can make a party of 6. a halfling makes for a great thief and a dwarf is great for fighter -
i started "castlevania lords of shadow 2". if not for the free camera, it is identical to the first game. when im done with it, i will go back to wasteland 2 that i had left for later after a few hours because of a bug that is now patched (the bug with AI having sometimes 2x or 3x more AP than it should)

Your character(s) think so about Paladins b/c they can't picture others doing stuff not for personal gain, which is a hard truth, but in a fantasy game one may dream :D everyone does what he does for personal gain one way or the other. one type of modern day paladins are the soldiers of ISIS. do you think they have a higher just cause? the cause is just a hypocritical excuse their leaders (who do it for money and power) use. the average soldiers do what they do because they have been promished a place in heaven as a reward... the cause is an illusion to make the promise of reward more believable a guy who does volunteer work, does it for self satisfaction. he does not feel like it is a duty of some sort that is forced upon him, he draws pleasure from it just like a masochist draws pleasure from pain (and if the volunteer is a rich guy, he probably does it for publicity) Ok, I know it's off topic but I have to tackle this opinion because I feel very strongly about it. So you're saying when I go volunteering and it makes me happy to help out other people, that is somehow a bad and selfish thing? Would it be somehow more genuine if I did it even though I thought it was a slog and it made me totally miserable? I understand the point you're trying to make. The problem is it's a bad point TO make, because it attempts to invalidate any act of kindness for the sake of bitter cynicism. And in regards to taking pleasure in attempting to shatter the idealism of passionate, caring people for the sake of being 'right'...well, that's plain awful. It seems like you're trying to justify your own morality by projecting your negativity on those that possess traits you don't have. i did not say it is a bad thing, i say that there is self interest involved even in the most (seemingly) selfless action. if it did not make you happy you would not do it after all. in my case, i do the things i like doing just like everyone else, but i simply do not build an illusory sense of righteousness to deny the negative parts. to use a famous example, Batman vs Joker. Batman refuses adamantly to kill anyone, however think of how many innocents die each time Batman spares Joker's life. from the first time he met Joker and spared him, Batman is fully responsible for any and all people that were killed by Joker and his gang. however, having surrounded himself with an illusion of righteousness, he lives in full denial of what his actions' negative results are also i do not judge actions as inherently good or bad. the best of actions can have the worst consequences and the most vile of deeds could lead to world peace. the universe in its entirety follows Newton's law "for every action there is an equal and oposite reaction", and any action can be called good or bad depending on the effect it has on each individual... and the effect varies from pure white to pitch black, passing through 50 shades of gray. -

I guess that makes you kind of a "True Neutral" character, huh? yep. anyway, George says it better in this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilipDBclxRc -

That's not a very falsifiable statement. Sounds to me like you're just making an excuse not to grapple with your own morality. And, hey, maybe RPG character creation isn't the place to be struggling with such concepts. --- Personally, I try to come up with some kind of quirky and unique character concepts regardless of sex. Typically anti-heroic and vaguely pathetic. Failing that I'll usually go with a generic tough chick character - if you're gonna be generic, then you might as well look good doing it... morality is something completelly subjective. everything in this world is made to balance itself out, so no matter how beneficial something may look to you it will be inevitably equally detrimental for someone else. also, it all works on double standards but most people simply cant or refuse to see it. when the activist against lab animals is sick, he takes medicine that was made with animal experimentation. the guy who makes a blog against the rapid advancement of technology on the internet, is using that advancement to its fullest every day and so on so yes, idealists/paladins are people who have surrounded themselves with an illusion of perfect righteousness and refuse to accept the existence of the other side of the coin -
you know, all the "muh immersion" stuff everyone suggests in the long run detract from the game making it tedious. it looks realistic if the maimed character is limping behind the rest, but after a while you will be tired of it since he will be slowing down the entire pace of the game. you have a maimed character and want to go to the inn? if he is limping it will take twice as long to get there for no real reason and after a few times it will get to be a boring chore and you will wish they had not included it Mmm, I only suggested an interval of discomfort and groaning while recovering in the aftermath of a battle. How did you translate that into an endless trial of slow, limping characters? Apparently you're reading additional meaning into my suggestion. i think the mechanical debuff is enough... and i think to recall from the videos that characters with low hp are holding their sides

Merchant Gold
teknoman2 replied to Hassat Hunter's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
just think of what TES did in that regard legendary items that would cost an arm and a leg in Morrowind and were too expensive for any merchant to buy, became as cheap as regular stuff in Oblivion and even cheaper in Skyrim so that any merchant could afford to buy them better to have merchants with unlimited gold at that point -

The one on the left looks better. More detailed/defined. it's the same scene with the same graphics at different light conditions (midday vs late afternoon). its not like each picture showcases a different version of the graphics (like PC vs PS4)

i practically model the first character i play in any RPG as myself i have average at best strength but i am agile, with slightly above average intelligence and no charisma whatsoever, i dabble in a bit of everything but i have no patience to master anything, and im quite a cynical person who could not give less of an f about anything besides my personal gain... i consider paladins (or any idealist) in any shape and form to be the most hypocritic people, while i feel a little envious of the fact that they can willingly live in a blissful illusion (that i try to shatter at every chance) -
i got myself a new mouse, Natec GX68. it has 2 less buttons than my previous (Sharkoon Drakonia) but the buttons are placed in more comfortable positions for my hand. its a bit lighter, while the same size, and i need to get used to it and a careful examination shows that the wheel axis while plastic, is 3 or 4mm thick (from what i can see through the gap), unlike the 1mm for the Drakonia that broke a year after i got it. the button programing software could have a few more options (and lacks profile management), but unlike the previous mouse the buttons are recognized directly by the games without having to asign a keyboard key to each for a 19€ mouse is as good as they come

Welcome in 2015, creature from the future. I’m not in a hurry to reach your timeframe, when I won’t be able to play games on my laptop anymore. Unless you’re planning to give me a new one? In which case I thank you, a recent Thinkpad would be very nice welcome to 2015 indeed... 32bit HW production (for desktops at least, i never dabbled in laptops) has stoped since the time of athlon 64 for AMD and core duo if not earlier for Intel... that was almost 10 years ago anyway my quantum computer has no problems of that kind

here's how it goes from what i ve seen in the videos (BB players can correct me if im wrong). if you lose all stamina you fall unconscious until the end of the fight then have a small temporary penalty. if you lose all hp you get maimed and get up with 1 hp at the end of the fight with a big debuff that lasts until you rest. if you lose that 1 hp before resting you die. if you activate an optional game mode, you die the first time your hp goes to 0

Combat Animation
teknoman2 replied to Baladas's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
But that's exactly what happens in this video as well, except with bad animations with about two frames and two varieties. Nothing really connects and there seems to be no real impact. DAO had better animations. nope, here animations play in sync with attack rolls -
putting the arrow on the left side of the bow while holding it with the right hand does not really require 2 moves come to think of it. you just push the arrow diagonaly forward between the shaft and the string then pull back to attach it to the string. if you keep the bow slightly tilted, like the indian in the picture, you can do it fast and easy. however, for speed shooting its better how he does it

well said that is the difference between a game and a simulator. the game needs coherence and believeability in it's story, characters, world and so on, but the gameplay has no need to be "realistic"... it needs to be practical for it's purpose within the game.

have you ever watched an animal documentary? pack animals act as packs. by instinct they assign threat levels to what is around and deal with the highest level first. if a pack member is in danger they will ignore lower level threats in favor of helping that member (and injured enemies are the lowest level threats)

be it light or heavy, you dont go into battle without armor and most attacks will have to get through it to hurt you. getting hit by sledgehammer while wearing full plate will take the breath out of you but will not break your bones or tear off your flesh. receiving several hits will have an impact to your health, but it will probably knock you unconscious before doing any permanent damage if you notice one of the fights in the stream, the heavily armored fighter was getting hit, he was losing stamina, but his health was barely touched. the unarmored wizard, lost almost 90% of his hp along with 100% of his stamina and was knocked out when he was attacked. another character with light armor, lost more than 50% of his hp along with all his stamina and went KO in a single fight also, on the "leaving the KO'd guy alone in the middle of a fight" complaint, that is quite normal. you dont bother to finish off a downed enemy while under attack by his allies. he cant do anything to you, so you can safely ignore him until the threat is gone and finish him off later. to use an example from a fighter plane game: when you break off somebody's wing you dont keep chasing and shooting him all the way to the ground to make sure he wont get back... he cant! the moment his wing came off, he was out of the fight and even if he somehow manages to keep enough control to keep his plane in the air, he cant fight anymore so you just ignore him and deal with whoever can actually fight

No room for more tactical combat?
teknoman2 replied to svartelric's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
in all IE games and in NWN2, in closed spaces i always used chokepoints. i had 2 tanks, i set them to block the door or any space smal enough that no enemies could pass through and had the rest of the party stand back and use ranged weapons or spells. in PE the mechanics allow tanks to keep enemies off the rest of the team without having to look for a chokepoint and/or exploit the AI -
