in my country, everyone can (after a psych evaluation and accomplishment of safety courses) get a permit to own and carry around a gun. at the same time we have one of the most lazy and unreliable police in the world. still, the amount of violent (and especially gun related) crimes and the number of people who own a gun is very low. about 80% of the population does not have and has no intention of ever getting a gun, 19% are hunters and 1% are rich people who have a valid reason to think they may get targeted

ASUS RADEON R7 260X R7260X-OC-2GD5 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E RETAIL i ll tell him to get this since the shop he usually buys from has a discount

the prices in my country are 125 euro for the R7 and 129 euro for the GTX. he does not want anything more expensive (he wants to spend so little that he was even considering to get a 6450 and i gave him an implied punch over the phone for even thinking to get that for gaming), since he rarely plays demanding games (but there is DA inquisition on his "to play" list). his old card is just too old and wants something decent to replace it. speaking of constraints, he has a 19" 1366x768 screen, he does not care for more than medium settings as long as it runs smooth and as for power he has a 700W corsair PSU so no worries there. the 129 of the GTX is the max he is willing to pay and may even take some convincing to get him to spend it. and he is partial towards AMD the 265 costs the same as a 750ti, 145 euro and i bet the 960 will cost even more so they are out. the ony other cards near that max price are the GTX650ti and the HD7770 (curently not availbale in any shop) so, having examined the evidence and having reached the conclusion that the most expensive cards he is willing to buy are the R7 260 and the GTX 750 (not ti, or the GTX650ti). the question remains: which is better (especially on the longevity department)?

I'm pretty sure that two year old wasn't rummaging around looking for a suitable weapon to kill his mom, and he probably wasn't going to get the job done with a pocket knife. Education isn't an issue either, the mother was well educated and had experience and training. Also no one here has seriously discussed banning firearms. At most they've talked about licensing. this is general social problem that goes far beyond this particular incident. if society (including but not limited to: government, school, police, artists, parents) bothered to keep people from becoming ignorant-irresponsible-uneducated-savages instead of actually encourage that behaviour (ie hip-hop), that mother would have no need to carry a loaded gun around

my brother has 4GB DDR3 1600 and an AMD FX6350. he wants to get a new GPU (something non very expensive) and i was thinking to suggest either the R7 260 or the GTX750 (for both the 2GB version) that are at about the same price what do you think is best

when it comes to banning or not firearms when i throw a rock off a cliff and it lands on somebody's head, is it the rock that is at fault? people dont kill people because they have guns. they kill people because they are ignorant-irresponsible-uneducated-savages with unrestricted access to guns. without access to guns they would still kill using other weapons. if they became responsible, educated and civilized, they would refrain from violent behaviour even if they had unrestricted access to nukes

my wish for this year is the same as last year... to win the lottery so i can idle my life away with no financial worries

Mass Effect 3 is really buggy... especially the AI. team member and enemies get stuck all the time

besides the stupidity of having a loaded and primed gun with the safety off on you (and within reach of a child) and the fact that every fool without any knowledge about gun safety can take a gun for a stroll, the real problem is the need of the average Joe to carry a gun around "for personal protection" in a civilized country... it shows just how civilized the country is.

finaly finished Ys origins on hard... it was a walk in the park compared to nightmare (i could beat bosses that took dozens of replays in nightmare on the first try with barely getting any damage). tomorow i start mass effect 3
-
i restarted Ys origins at hard because a certain boss at nightmare was pretty much unbeatable. it feels so easy in comparison, that if at the save screen did not say "hard" i would think i set the "easy" difficulty.

not all. my old Trust mouse had a metal axis for the wheel. it was visible from the sides. anyway, i managed to fix it. the plastic part had hexagonal shape, so i got one of those hexagonal screwdriver things at the right size, melted the plastic contact point of the wheel and put it in to make it like one body, after it solidified, i inserted the input device and cut the rest of the tool. i then put it back in it's place in the mouse and now my wheel has a metal axis

im currently playing the last member of the most frustrating game series ever made besides dark souls... Ys origins. and because im a masochist i play it on nightmare. just to make a comparison, i had to replay the second boss more than 20 times to beat it, while in other Ys games played on normal, i never had to retry even a late game or final boss more than 14 times. i shudder at the thought of how hard other bosses in the game will be the most annoying part and the genius of their design is that while i fight the boss again and again, i keep thinking "if he did not have just one (any one) of it's skills, it would be easy to beat"

i finished Bioshock Infinite. what a mindfuq of an ending and the credits... as they started to roll, i went to have diner, then i took a bath, then i came back and they were still going

i finally found how to open the mouse. the wheel axis was made of cheap .5mm plastic and is broken. i tried to put it back together with some super glue but nothing, it breaks off as soon as i try to use it. i may have to go Mcguyver on it. and if it still doesnt work, i ll have to consider getting a new mouse

I figured it out... Why RPGs seem to be going down hill.
teknoman2 replied to Luridis's topic in Computer and Console
the best line i ve read (i dont remember where) is that skyrim will be the standard by which future players will judge RPGs. first thing that came to my mind was "we're doomed" the definition of RPG is not very clear cut, but if we simply go by the name itself, then it is the game in which you assume the role of someone and through the actions you choose for that someone to perform, you interact with an imaginary world, shaping the future events for you, others or even the world itself. since a cRPG does not have the narative freedom to adjust "on the fly" in case of unpredictable player behaviour, it uses a few predermined nodes along a more or less linear story to put the player in one of 2 or 3 predermined sequences or events to give a sembiance of impact to his actions. the bigest problem, is that people have linked the term RPG with specific game mechanics like levels, stats, skills, party control, inventory, quests, combat etc and dont even know what "role play" is. an RPG does not even need most of that to be such. the game mechanics of a game like "This war of mine", offer a more solid role play experience than most flashy AAA RPGs in the last 10 years, and it's not even an RPG -
i ve been asking this question since i was in university but where do you people find the money for rigs like that? i work a full time job and i can barely scrounge up money for moderate upgrades every now and then... this one around my parts would cost 3 months worth of pay. inb4 credit card... i'd rather keep the bank's hands out of my wallet

i have a sharkoon drakonia that i got a bit more than a year ago. a good mouse for it's price, but the wheel stoped working a few days ago. my previous mouse, a trust GM4200, was working fine for over 5 years before losing the use of the wheel (the reason for the replacement) despite everyone saying that trust makes bad products in that case however was a complete HW failure, in the new mouse i think it simply got off the axis but i dont know how to open it and put it back in its place... and it would cost as much as a new mouse to have it fixed since its warranty has expired by the way, does anyone know how to open a laser mouse and look on the inside? older mice had a screw or two and it was simple

Anticlimactic yes, but I'll take that over Risen 1's endgame. That mega dungeon, as you put it, was pure tedious torture, as far as I'm concerned. I hate the endgame of Risen 1 with a passion. I found it so excruciating that I wouldn't wish it upon my enemies. what i liked about the dungeon is that it presented a chalenge for all the hard earned combat experience you (with the controls) and your character (levels, skills, spells) have gained durring the rest of the game. in 2, from the moment you get a musket and a couple of related skills, you can kite the world, final boss included now im off to start bioshock infinite
-
i just finished Risen 2. they really tried to do something too big for a small studio and it backfired, just like gothic 3. it is overall a decent game, but the feeling i got throughout was that they tried to include too many "ingredients" in a small pot and ended up putting in too little of each. and talk about anticlimactic final battle... in the first game it wasnt much better, but at least you had to cross a mega dungeon to reach it. here you arrive at the place, kill 5 enemies, walk up some stairs and you are in the boss' room (and the boss is not harder to beat than any humanoid enemy... doesnt even have any special attacks, its just a regular sword fight)

A bit concerned about the promise of a patch a week
teknoman2 replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
the key here is "hoping...at some point", meaning they will try it if they think it's possible to be done. -
i voted the same thing. for exploration it would be to go to places where the lore skill would be useful. say you explore a cave and there is nothing in it except for a faded mural. with the apropriate level of lore skill you may be able to spot and decipher a code hidden in the mural on how to access a hidden chamber. as soon as you enter the chamber you get exploration xp xp for boss encounters is self explainatory, as long as it is a strictly combat encounter and not part of quest with multiple solutions
