They have not. The printing press hasn't been invented yet in the world of eternity. Books existed before the printed press was invented. Copies were made by clerks and monks in monasteries. This mean books were very expensive and rare, but it didn't matter because the majority couldn't read anyway...

You didn't know that PE had a Priest class. You clearly have not freaking idea how the class is described either (which mean you haven't read update #15) and you call my argument weak. I guess you aren't worth spending time responding to. -

There are no clerics in PE, it have priests. Also, rangers aren't cultural at all, it's a real job turned into a fantasy class, pretty much every country on the planet have rangers in their park/protected forest. Finally, I know games where the monk class is of the medieval Europe type and it's called a monk. Not everything needs to be based on D&D interpretation you know. -
lol, I can't wait to get my Kerfluffles next month. I'm really unsure what the next stretch goals could be. I think a documentary is a good idea (and they looked into it too). Beside that, without knowing the actual size of the game it's hard to say what it need "more". More hamlet, more cities, more quests?

The Big Three Million
morhilane replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Lots of people put a lot of money on Wasteland 2, DFA and Shadowrun. Now they are "broke" and can't really push higher for PE. Wasteland average per backers is $48, PE right now is at $45 (it keep going up though). There are already people who removed their PE pledge because they don't have the money. I saw a dude at the $35 level doing so. and I still don't understand how DFA got over 80k backers... -
BioWare have been using Facebook for marketing for a while already...and I don't think you can remove a like.

The Big Three Million
morhilane replied to Monte Carlo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
PE have $50k over Double Fine had at the same time period of its campaign. Now DFA campaign lasted a bit longer, but it seems PE already fixed that difference by getting more money per day. If PE continue gaining a bit more money per day than Double Fine (which it is so far), it will have no problem taking over that #1 spot. Unless the final "spike" fail, but I suspect it will be beautiful. -
[Merged] Cooldowns 2.0
morhilane replied to Grimlorn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
People should read the explanations of Tim and Josh. The cooldown system does exactly the same thing as exhausting all the spells in you spellbooks for a certain level in the Vaccian system: you can't use them anymore for a while. The difference is that you won't have to rest all the time to regain the mid-levels spells and the low level spells will always be available (sort of like default attacks). The grimoires switching allow to keep different set of spells together for specific circumstances. Let say you have your "combat grimoire", "out of combat grimoire" and "control grimoire". So in the combat one you will have all the fireball, chain lightning, magic missles. etc. In the ooc grimoire will have stuff like unlock, divination, wish. The control one can have stuff like web, charm person, etc. You get a cooldown on switching the grimoires to avoid switching all the time, they are big books after all. Some people will find the grimoires annoying, because mages will have to remember where they dumped a specific spell. -
What is meant by 'cool-down' period
morhilane replied to Rezin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Dragon Age: Origins uses cooldowns and is an enjoyable CRPG despite some flaws. Except that DA:O spellcasting had nothing in common with the old IE games because of those cooldowns. Also, the dev already explained the Project Eternity cooldown system for spellcasting and it have nothing to do with DA:O version (aka MMO cooldowns). It is simply replacing some part of the resting mechanic. Resting is still in. -

These sort of things are related to the setting. Josh Sawyer already told us what a Priest can be in PE and adventuring Priests aren't passive at all. -
not everyone will have the steam version Yeah, yeah, I've read the arguments that people use to justify piracy (2DBoy listened to those arguments as well and World of Goo had an 82% piracy rate without DRM), but have you ever attempted to find anything on the Nexus? It's a usability nightmare. The game will be available on GOG, which have nothing to do with Steam. There is also the Mac and Linux version to take into consideration and whichever distribution system Obsidian goes with for these OSes.
