  1. Jousting armours also have stronger protection in shield side than lance side, as it was the side where jousters aim.
  2. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/60438-update-5-souls-technology-and-adventuring-companies/ http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/61533-update-24-less-than-30-hours-to-go-life-and-death-and-audio-cd-soundtrack/ So all living people at least have souls but all souls aren't equal in how much power invidual can conjure from it.
  3. If I have understood correctly, then all major cultures in PE are multiracial by nature, so racism should not be necessarily directed towards race of character but ethnic heritage of the character and physical traits of the character. For example orlans have been victimized and marginalized because of their size and because they aren't orginal members of any of the major cultures (I have understood correctly) and godlike people born different looking, which is why some cultures discriminate against them and some cultures worship them. In my understanding Drywood is cultural mixing pot because of major cultures colonialistic expansion to the area and native cultures that you can find in there, so there is lot of oportunitys for ethnic based racism and bigotry without going typical fantasy route, where elves and dwarfs have old grudge against each other, humans are self centered and despise other races are minor and are looked down by other races. So for example all Vailians, elves, dwarfes, humans, godlikes, aumauas and orlans, look down native inhabitants of the Drywood and probably in some extent other major cultures.
  4. http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/05/16/google-buys-a-quantum-computer/ Google buys a quatum computer, so one could think that they start to be more than theoretical machines.
  5. Humoristic post that somewhat touch this topic. Some viewer discretion is advised (nothing more what you see in many MMORPGs) http://repair-her-armor.tumblr.com/post/50474510652/clothes-im-forced-to-wear-in-the-majority-of-mmorpgs And what comes to blood witch, I don't have any problems with nudity (female or male), altough I don't know anything about what blood witches will be like in the game, so I can't promise that I will not have problems with them, but that is potential topic for future. But if they say lingerie is female/male version of armour which looks like normal armour when character from other gender wear it. Also I have some issues with illogical/inconsistent use of magic as reason for things.
  6. This topic is only month old, so if you were gone month or two, so... maybe it was some other thread that you mix with this one
  7. Not quite, Latvia is Estonia's southern neighbour
  8. They speak language that sounds finnish, but I can't usually understand it Their capital is old Hanseatic League city, which old town area is quite beatifully medieval. Alchol and most of other stuff are there much cheaper than what it is in for example in Finland or Sweden. There is some miff between estonian speaking majority and russian speaking minority. There is excelent spas in Pärnu. Its legal red-light services for turists has given some infamousness for them, but also lot of turists from surrounding countries (not that there is many turist that admit that it was reason why they pick Estonia over some other country) People there are usually quite nice, but in turist bars one should be careful.
  9. DA:O had better tools to automatize AI behavior, but sadly it was greatly worsened by tying it to character leveling and skill points. Command queues are also good addition when compared to BG2, as was showing portraits of enemies so that targeting them was easier. But overall control of battlefield was much better in BG2. But there are things in DA:O which could make combat easier and faster to manage. But Obsidian has used some of these features in their games, so I think that they are well aware of that.
  10. Rob's update in all probablity will show more art, so those who desired to see more will probably get some nice candy then. I liked this update as it tells me that they have monster design process that produces more likely intresting monsters and it also most likely stops monsters that seems cool but are actually annoying or otherwise not as cool than one would think at first. High-level goals are vague (as they should be), but they tell at least me that aim is to get that feeling what word classic fantasy brings in the mind, but also that new ideas will not be throw out only because they are new. Which probably mean that PE's beastiary will give familiar fantasy feel, but also has it own unique flavours. And aim to make large variety of monster at least sounds like that they will not do same mistake as Dragonage, where bestiary was very constricted, which caused it to feel somewhat dull at the end.
  11. lol what are you guys talking about? There is no producer here.. They bought the IP from Bitcomposer and they were offered a publisher deal. They rejected and said they will go via kickstarter. No publisher that way. Why would they need to go via kickstarter if there was a publisher? They only licensed right to use Jagged Alliance IP from Bitcomposer, who still owns Jagged Alliance trademark. http://trademarks.justia.com/772/48/jagged-alliance-77248663.html And for why kickstarter if there is publisher: One reason could be that publisher don't want to pay development cost partially or fully, another reason that I could think is market research, to see if there is demand for such game.
  12. EA owns rights to sell and distribute licenses for orginal Wasteland, but as trademark owner inXile can do and sell new game (and licenses to it) without consulting EA about it. So it is very different situation from Shadowrun, where Microsoft owns trademark and Harebrained Schemes licenses to use it, which means that they must follow their license agreement or negotiate new terms with MS if they want change something.
  13. Cean GĂşla has nice banshee vibe on it (ghostly horroric female) Pipeline looks good as too high level goals, as they seem to support vision what I hope this game will be.
  14. Probably, but at the same time it more than once attack the Athenians for being gay, whereas the Spartans are depicted as the prime example on the All American core family. I don't profess to be an expert in Ancient Greece but I thought homosexuality was common and encouraged amongst the Spartans? Didn't the Sacred Band practice sodomy as rule Yes, homosexual relationships were encouraged in Sparta to make soldiers to bound with each other. Sacred Band was made of 150 pairs of male lovers. At least so say experts of Ancient Greece. Thanks, thats what I thought and it makes sense. You would fight more for someone you actually loved than someone who was just a close comrade I imagine? And there is also that factor that in that time of age war excursions could last several years without leaves for soldiers, so when you have soldiers that spend their leasure time with each other, it always lowered number of accessory people like concubines and servants (slaves) that usually followed large armies (meaning that cost of war excursio was lower). And it probably also lowered soldiers longing get home to their loved ones. And etc. factors probably played at least some part why it was as it was.
  15. Stay back or I use my ninja moves on you

  17. In my understanding they will not use D&D system, as it needs to be licenced from Hasbro. And if I remember correctly they will not use any varriant of d20 system, but instead of their own varriant of d100 system. So stat ranges will be very different of those in D&D games and they probably will create characteristics that work with their vision of the game, which mean that there high change that they are different what we have seen in D&D games (and there is always copyright issues to be considered).

  19. Are you under the impression that ego stroking is some modern development? We're not talking about what would be the theoretical maximum in magical protection, but in what opportunities the existence of magic opens up. For instance, if the enchantment provides the equivalent protection of a foot of steel I doubt it really matters what the base item is; yea, 101 > 100, but not enough to matter. No, but ego-stroking in design usually comes with price because there is nearly always cheaper and better ways to achive same goals. But if you enchament normal cloths for in that cause, you don't need to sacrifice you precious magical resources to make those bikinis or speedos to work in winter. If there is way to make magical barriers then there is probably way to broke those barries, in which case normal armour that is enchanted gives you better protection in those cases. And you probably can make better or more enchament in that armour, because, it has more mass and surface area where you can put those enchaments, so 1001>101. That is all what I am saying.
  20. Pretty sure there are more practical uses for carbon fiber than a Ferrari, but what the hell. That is what I said, so you agree that magical chainmail bikini is only expensive ego stroking thing that don't give any actual benefit to cheaper magical armours and in some cases it is even worse? If so don't see any bad in it, as my beef is that in ego-stroking things that are better than functional things and only reason for this is "magic" that don't have any logic in it.
  21. I see mixture of real world cultures in every culture concept. Drywood: looks to me culture that is bit poorer than others, as their clothing focus more in function than looks. Their clothing also looks like it is designed for seasonal weather. Ixamitl: Looks culture from much warmer climate and and wealthier as clothes have much more decoration than what they have in Drywood. Vailian Republics: Looks also wealthy culture, but from looks of it they come from more seasonal weather climate than Ixamitlic culture. Aedyr Empire: Looks culture from warm climate and they have same low decorative style as Drywood, but with bit more dyes in their hands. In my opinion these are quite good cultural concepts. Monk seems to be cool class, as to max benefits your soul power, you need to sacrifice your protection and weapons, but without making more geared up build useless, as it sounds that torment reach with long range melee weapon can be quite devastating, even if you can't hit as many times as you could with unarmed build. And it also looks like class for those who want chainmail bikini/speedo wearing characters, that don't lose their effectiveness in battle because of that choice.
  22. People don't buy (at least usually) those mint-condition orginal #1 issues to read them but own them because they are rare which gives them value over their normal price. So if we use this analog to magical enchanted bikinis, then they have value only because they are rare, not because they are good. And if magic is costly resource one could think it would most likely be used more functional items than chainmail bikini, which would cause expotential price rise for those, without giving them any actual bonuses over "normal" magical armour. And when we are speaking about PE, then magical bikinis lose lot of their usefulness, because of firearms, which magic can't stop (as is metioned in updates), so in PE world they would cost more and give less protection than even non-magical armours in some cases. But of course enchanting items could use some different magic than what wizards use to protect themselves.
  23. If it is not broken don't try fix it, is first thing that comes in my mind about this topic.
  24. You should calculate amount of energy needed to do such fireball and if we take hypotese where one can create such amount energy from vacuum then it should be logical that you can also decimate that energy as easilly or at least call same amount energy to counter act with that energy. And what comes to lightning in BG it's not lightning itself that moves slowly, but that energy masses, like two energy balls which have big potential difference between them which creates lightning between them that moves with slow base towards place where wizard aimed it. Or some other similar explanation that works with science.
