Why is Game Audio 32khz?
Elerond replied to Shardnax's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
You need double sample rate to record audio frequency that you want, so with 32kHz sample rate you can max record 16kHz sounds, and you need 44kHz sample rate to record 22kHz sounds. Although most people aren't able to really tell difference between 16kHz and 22kHz sounds, especially with audio devices that they have plugged in their computers and when we speak about lozzy audio codecs like vorbis. -
Sawyer on vacation?
Elerond replied to MotelOK's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think he feels safer on SomethingAwful. It's behind a paywall, he gets the kind of feedback he wants and doesn't have to deal with criticism or the drama of the real world. I bet it's cozy. I don't think that answering feedback is part of his job description and on his free time he probably uses only services that he likes. But I am pretty sure that he get most feedback that there is given in this forum and other places that Obsidian's QA people read, as they are ones whose job is to read feedback and report it to other members of team. If you look back how PoE's team has answered towards feedback and questions in forum in past you can see how in beginning of project when PoE's team consisted only couple people you see they were ones that answered to all questions in here, but when they started to grow their team you see that people answering things here changed to people whose job description actually included answering those questions and rest of team become less active here. Twitter for example can become very deafening when you get lots of messages that are addressed to you, as it don't as default offer any tools that could be used to sort hundreds/thousands messages. Often all messages that popular twitter accounts get become background noise that just get ignored, if there isn't some sort social media team behind that account. Addition to that twitter messages are very short which make them very poor to answer questions and feedback and answers often are taken out of context and understood incorrectly which cause need to correct people. But if you want ask Josh something and don't want to buy SA account I would recommend to try sent question to his tumblr account. Some codex members seem to get answers to their questions by doing so. -
Sawyer on vacation?

He is still posting something awful, so it may just be that he don't like twitter. And I would also guess that they are currently having their hands full with expansion pack, so they don't necessary have that much free time in their hands. -
It could be that Eothas shrine isn't absent from Temple, but that his constellation should be next to Hylea's as they are/were allies and share some aspects of in their portfolios. Or maybe he should be next to Woedica, whose ally he was too, which is why he had knowledge about Thaos plan to use those soul moving machines to strengthen her and same time cause hollowborn epidemic. And now his constellation don't light up because he is dead or too weak which prevent him to channel his power in that star mirror (which ever it was called). But I would say that those groups of gods should need prayer for all the gods in the group instead of just the one who has decided to give task for you. As you are speaking to all of them and not just the one that speaks back to you, which would make one think that you should show your respects to all of them and not just one of them. Of course there is possibility that Eothas is not actually created by same people as other gods, but for example competing faction inside of Engwithan society, which he is not connected to that temple. But I agree that constellation map is not best design choices they have made.

Can't access the Beta patches via opt in on Steam
Elerond replied to Azureblaze's question in Patch Beta Bugs and Support
Did you write BETAPASSWORD on that textbox under that dropbox and click that check code button. -
Only if you assume that they would got as much money without offering them. Because those feature didn't eat all the money they brought not even close. I made no such assumption. Obsidian would have had to focus on their core. It would have been a much smaller and simpler game, but the core of their system would have been better honed as a result. A more modest game would have had lower ambitions and less expectations, which would have (I believe), led to less questionable design choices and a better experience. I would say that you hypothesis is wrong. Only thing sure is that PoE would had been much smaller game with much less content, but I would say that it would had been much less honed, because they couldn't had afforded to do as much polishing, animations, gameplay and QA testing, etc. Design could probably been more balances because less things to balance, but I am not sure it that would had produced more better end result when factored how enjoyable game is to play.

Ziets did quite lot initial lore work "First I came up with a bunch of deities, which made good sense to me as an initial step. (It seems like a society would use gods to represent things that are important to them, so defining the deities was a good way to get to know the people of the Dyrwood and their neighbors.) Then I wrote a lot of lore about cities, dungeons, prominent people, organizations, and important places in the region, including a detailed breakdown of Defiance Bay. I think the team has expanded the city a lot since I worked on it, but some of my neighborhoods are still present (e.g., Brackenbury, Ondra’s Gift), and it sounds like they’ve retained some of the other lore too." http://grimuar.pl/interview/george-ziets Endless Path was not part of original vision it was added when PoE reached 50k backers. Original three races where Human, Elf and Dwarf. Original Classes were in my understanding Fighter, Rogue, Wizard, Priest and Druid Originally there was only 5 companions. There would had been lot less loot and unique items and items with histories There wouldn't had been enemy war bands or bounty missions. Game would had been released only English But I was first day backer so I would had played game still, but I don't think it would had been as enjoyable as it is now.

It's a resting mechanic because....you have to map-travel? Bonus? what bonus? You mean, you like it better than... Resting. And it is resting in BG because you click button? In both cases in-game time goes forward, in both cases your party rests, even if you don't need to click specified resting button in DAO. Bonus in this case is to get health, spells etc. back by doing actually nothing and without losing anything, but time in DAO and not even that in BG.
-
Why? Is there price? But you can go in global camp and rest to remove your injuries if you want. That means that DA:O has a "home base" mechanic. Like any home base mechanic in any game. You don't rest there however, because there's no resting. There's no NEED for a resting mechanic. Injuries are instantly healed upon area transition to home base. It is resting mechanic as you need to leave map where you are and go to the camp to get bonus. Better than one you find in BG for example where you can take 8 hour naps by clicking button and near by enemy horde kindly waits that you get your health, spells and abilities back.

The fighting mechanics are terrible however, and are MUCH better in BG. It just feels like a cheap MMO rather than a RPG. Also, BG has more depth and is less gamey overall, there is more freedom (all this crap like giving your companions trinkets to get +1 to relations, or this horrendous camp). All in all, the result is thus: BG - finished several times, DaO - finished 0 times, stopped playing and never touched the game again. Neither do I want to. Lol. In what way is DAO like an MMO? I would guess that ability cooldowns and threat mechanic make game MMO, even though I don't know how such mechanics can make game Massively Multiplayer Online.

Obsidian used Unity's tools mostly to make PoE, which means that they don't have any toolset that they could mod and release to public. For example Chrome Engine that Dying Light uses is made and owned by Techland, which is reason why they were able to release mod tools. But you can use Unity to mod PoE, but PoE many mods that people probably want make need owning Unity 4.x Pro version, because of middleware used, but Obsidian is looking for possibility to port PoE to Unity 5, which should give people ability to do those mods with Unity's free version. Although I guess that people need to make their own conversation editor tool, because I don't think that Obsidian wants to give out one they use.

Funny how pointless this turned out to be. But mostly because enemy wizard that are some what rare don't use arcane veil and only very few enemies have fire arms especially in beginning of game where player might even use arcane veil instead of better means of protection (although even that is bit optimistic as player probably choose some other talent for their wizards, because arcane veil isn't usually necessary in roles where players use their wizards).

Defiance Bay: What is the best faction
Elerond replied to Anaeme's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I say kill them all and let new order rise from ashes of old -
BG items with uniqueish effects or that are named Same for PoE: I don't think it is lack of unique bonuses or lack of unique items that make people feel lack of uniqueness in PoE items but PoE quite high quantity of those two, people have just too much choice of unique items where to choose from that makes them feel that there is lack of uniqueness in the item selection.

I would say that they should make it so that you can wield pistol and one handed weapon in same weapon slot pair, but make it so that reloading pistol needs both hands and you get single weapon accuracy bonus with one handed weapon. Because it would give something special for pistols over arquebuses, as you can save half of weapon slot so to speak by deciding to use one instead of arquebus, but losing some damage potential. Although allowing such thing would need some changes in mechanics so that you can determine which weapon in the pair you want to use. Letting you attack with both one handed weapon and pistol same time so that you can also reload pistol same time would make pistol maybe too good, although that could be solved with giving accuracy minuses such pairing, but that probably would make it become unattractive choice at the end.

Shouldn't Hiravias mind....(spoilers)
Elerond replied to qualiyah's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Hiravias don't seem to care probably because his clan cast him out which seems to have made him to hold little loyalty towards their beliefs.- 4 replies

Eothas was slain by kith made weapon, even though those who made get their instructions from one of the gods, it ultimately means that there is way how kith can kill the gods if they want to. There was reason why Magran wanted all those who made the bomb to die with it, which is why I think that there is quite lot implications in how The Trials of Durance ends, as Durance knows how to make weapon that kills a god, and there is possibility that he ends up wanting vengeance towards Magran. And I also think that you overestimate power that gods have, but they are powerful because they consist from millions of souls which power they can use. But even then their power seems to have clear limits. Also they aren't omniscient even though they have quite good knowledge about things. For example Magran don't seem to know that Durance didn't die, and Eothas didn't know that he was walking in the trap, etc.. So gods of Eora have undeniable power, they are capable to many things that kith can't do, but they also have limits and they need kith to do quite lot of things for them. There is reason why first missionaries exists, why they become inquisition that wiped or tried to wipe Iovara's followers and knowledge from the world, why Leaden Key exist, why Magran needed her followers to build Godhammer, why for example Berath is annoyed with two druids that have extended their life and why he promises you boon if you kill them. And what is your opinion of question does it matter if people of Eora are told that gods are made by kith (more specifically Engwithans), like Iovara argues, or should that information be hided from them like Thaos argues?.

How did you manage your stronghold and how many companion adventures you about got that gave XP bonus. As my first character got level 12 in act 2, but my second and third character got only level 10. Last two are fully played in 1.04 and first was fully played in release version. But my first character had some times even 3 xp missions at time where they seemed more rare with last two. No scientific proof or even sure if I did all the same things.
